  1. Wasn't sure of their policy--I know you can't do it at my home range, RTSP--so I gladly used my own without bringing attention to it.
  2. I had a feeling the ammo would be pricey, and with three of us there I knew we'd blow through a single box in no time...so I snuck in my own box of 9 and that helped take away some of the $40 sting. Like I said, definitely worth a visit if you're down there on vacation like we were.
  3. Took my first trip to Shore Shot in Lakewood last week while on vacation...great experience overall. Nice and empty when we got there around 10:15 on Thursday morning, and by the time we left only a few ports were being used. Staff was great...made everyone in my group feel welcome and at ease. Walked in, each of us signed one form and showed our ID, and we were shooting within minutes. Never even asked for an FID card...very casual operation. Wasn't thrilled about the $40 cost for a box of 9mm, but guess that's to be expected these days. Will definitely go back next time we're at the beach on vacation.
  4. I'll give a +1 to RTSP. Shot my first gun ever there about a year ago and have been back numerous times, always with perfectly acceptable results. Made my most recent purchase there...came in with permit in hand, knew what I wanted, and even on a busy Thursday night was out the door in 15 minutes. Yes, they've gotten crazy busy in the last few months and sometimes seem a little overwhelmed, but I don't need hugs and kisses when I go there any more than I do when I go to Sports Authority or Kohl's or anyplace else. As long as my needs are met, I have no issue...and all year long, my needs have always been met. I'm sure people have had less-than-stellar experiences there (same as anyplace else)...but I for one thank god a place like RTSP exists in this area. If not for them I never would have learned to shoot or gotten involved in this sport.
  5. I agree Jack...part of why I relayed that story was as a word of caution about putting in an order at Jim's. I've read similar things on other forums...though I'm sure plenty of people have had perfectly fine ordering experiences there. And I've been more than satisfied with my two trips to Jim's...I just make sure whatever I want is actually in stock.
  6. Here's how I came to own a nickel-finish CZ 75B...was earlier this year, ready to make my first purchase, and the CZ was high on my wish list. Ended up at Jim Flynn's for the first time, and when I mentioned the CZ to Ken up in the gun room, he said, "We have one here, but I don't think it's for sale because Jim ordered it for someone else." He let me check it out, then put it away. When I was downstairs with Jim later going over other options, I asked if he could order me the same CZ...and he said, "You can have that one. That guy's paperwork isn't in yet." So I got lucky that day...and I'll always wonder if that other guy was eventually able to get the gun he wanted, or if he just got the shaft because Jim sold it to me instead.
  7. Florida CCW license arrived in the mail on Christmas Eve...so, a nice little Xmas present for myself, even after waiting 13 weeks. Hang in there everyone...and happy new year!
  8. Mailed my application/fingerprints, etc (all processed through GunForHire in Belleville, NJ) on Sept 18, check was cashed soon after...and I'm still waiting, 11 weeks later. I called the number that you use to track your progress and ended up getting a live person on the line, and she was very nice...pulled my application, looked through it and said everything seemed in order (even though it hadn't been "looked at" yet on an official level). She said they're just very backed up and that I should probably see it by the end of December. So we're basically looking at a 14 - 15 week turnaround. It's frustrating, but at least I no longer get pissed off after the mail comes every day. Hang in there everyone!
  9. 1. Application type: FID/1 P2P 2. Police Department where you applied: Chester 3. Name of the person you dealt with at the PD: Lt. Thomas Williver 4. Time taken to issue FID and/or permit: 31 days 5. Documents required by the PD (aside from the standard application and the mental health release form): None 6. Notes - anything pertaining to the application process (unforeseen difficulties, chief of police calling your home, you hiring an attorney, etc.). Aside from the PD calling my home and leaving a message saying my paperwork was in (my wife checks all the messages and was NOT happy , overall the experience was easy and painless. Once or twice I tried to call and check in, but felt stopping by the police dept. was better...this way the Lt. in charge of the paperwork could put a face to the name.
