  1. Good job Sir!

As far as the Mom goes, maybe you could arrange to take her shooting just to show her what you want to show the boy. Do you have a Boy's rifle to do this with? It won't do you any good to show Mom a .45 auto 1911 cause the recoil and bang is too much for small shooters.....

Allay her fears and let her have a little plinking fun. Then the two of you can discuss how and when to offer some instruction to the boy. If you can just get her out once, you'll be teaching the boy in no time. Mom just may want to "control" information or experiences. Instead of cutting the umbilicle cord, maybe you can get her to let "some line out" on the fishing pole of life.......

She has already told me that she wants to go shooting. So that's step one.

For him I have an old Marlin Model 60 (that I modified to only accept 15 rounds) that shoots .22lr. It's not a kids stock, but he can probably handle it with some help. I'll try and find a kids stock for it....not sure they make one though....but wouldn't that offset the balance of the gun with a shorter stock?

  2. Had him over tonight so while him and his mother were there I pulled out my two guns...his eyes went huge...I let him hold them...explained how they work and how harmful they can be...let him ask questions...and showed him how they work. Definitely took the mystery out. Explained to him what to do I'd he saw one or was at a friends house and there was one. I definitely think this was a good thing. He even thanked me for teaching him when he was leaving...now to get him shooting. But I don't think mom is ready for that.......

  3. Just spoke to his mother again tonight while out with her for dinner.

She agrees and wants me to show him what they are and explain to him the damage that they cause.

Her reasoning, which is also my reasoning, is he is a very curious kid. So taking the mystery out of it would be good for him. And he always listens to what I say and usually does what I say....more so than his own mother LOL.

  4. The main point I'm bringing to the thread here is to take the MYSTERY out of it. Then the Kids will be a lot less inclined to go on a search for firearms. And USE the Eddie Eagle Program materials to teach Kids what to do if they or a friend "find" a gun without a Parent or adult around.

This was in fact one of my other reasons I thought it would be good to do. The whole mystery aspect. His grandmother HATES guns...doesn't even like it when he is near my airsoft....so I think it is up to me to do these things when they aren't around. His mother is much more receptive though.

  5. I have an 8 year-old godson and reading about tragedies that happen when kids are around unprotected guns, I've been thinking about showing him what they actually look like in person...what they feel like...what the bullets look like....etc. And of course what to do if a friend pulls one out or something.

Do you all think 8 years-old is too young? I'm thinking not, but wanted to get other opinions.

  6. I was out in Bethlehem, PA diving. Around 5:45pm, surfaced to lightening and huge dark clouds in the distance. Got out and tried to pack quickly. Then you could hear the wind in the distance and see the distant trees moving. It got louder and louder and then BAM!! Hail, driving rain, winds, rocks, dirt, sand...pop-up tents got mangled and broken, half a tree came down and then you had myself and 3 others standing on a picnic table trying to hold down a 30 foot car port tent down and it was lifting my 200+ pound frame off my feet.

    Never experienced anything like it!!!!

When Bob Viden spoke at the last NJ2AS meeting, he said there was a draft of a bill that would eliminate going to the PD for getting pistol permits. The issue is we are waiting to get a bill number assigned. It was said with all of the budget issues and summer recess, the bill number would not be issued until everyone was back from their summer break.

I'm greatly paraphrasing the speech. Perhaps someone else who also heard the talk could chime in.

Yeah I did hear about this bill and looked it up. It seems as if this bill was first introduced in 2009, if I remember what I read correctly. Why is it still in waiting? And what can we do as enthusiasts to help get this bill passed?

  8. Vlad,

This Noob is some kind of shill or troll, and may not even own a gun. Unfortuneately you don't have to prove competence with firearms to pontificate on a public forum.

I don't listen to pod casts either.

Take a deep breath and block this %^&*# out of your computer. It's like hitting the "EASY" button @ Staples, lol!

Evan nappan's job is to interpret Nj gun law extrapolated out to it's illogical extreme. He does this to point out the absurdity of the law (which is absurd) I applaud him for his efforts and I applaud Anthony for having gfh radio.

However, the law is clear by my literate and thoughtful reading. There is NO duty to retreat in your home. The law says that the individuals right to carry and possess ANY firearm in his home supersedes other subsections of the statute regarding illegal transfer.

This being said, I HOPE we are dealing with a troll or a shill. Because such myopic devotion to something that is demonstrably false is unfortunate.

Well sorry to let you guys down, but no troll here...oh...no shill either.

Yes I have 2 guns, so there goes that too.

Now...yes I am completely new to this hobby. Don't know much about guns or gun laws, so I'm so sorry that asking there questions pisses people off, but get over it. Because I'm new, I read more than I post so that I can learn.

And I stopped posting on this topic as I've already made up my mind and gave her access and made sure she knows how to use both guns. I'd rather she be alive and have to hire someone like Evan, than her be harmed.

  9. There was a bill introduced in 2009 to eliminate fingerprinting and to use only the NICS check to determine approval for FPIDs and P2Ps, http://www.njleg.sta...000/2695_I1.HTM

Additionally, that bill reduces the approval requirement to 10 days from the current 30.

That hasn't gone anywhere and is still listed in this legislative session.

But, what you're hearing is the news on page 4 of the May/June issue of ANJRPC's News & Briefs. They are working on a bill to eliminate permits for purchases that go through an FFL that would use the NICS. The bill has been drafted and they are waiting for a bill number to be assigned.

The form of registry would still be filled out at the time of purchase.

This kinda leaves face to face private sales unaddressed and you'd think the older bill would have a better shot at paying if they don't address private sales.

The link you provided and the stat leg website shows that this law was just presented again on March 8, 2012. This should be something that we all should write our reps about, no?

  10. I am not a lawyer.

The real problem is that we have no idea whether it is illegal or not. It's the "reasonable deviation" part. Would your deviation be "reasonable" to a Jury?

Technically, we don't even know if stopping for gas is "reasonable."

I don't think I would do it. But there is one other option. We have an entire forum of members here. I'm sure that somebody here belongs to the range near you. Put a message up in the forum and ask for somebody to meet you at the range with a handgun that is similar to yours. Buy him a box of ammo for his troubles. Now everybody is happy. I'll even make you an offer. If your mother in law lives down near the Cherry Hill area, I'll meet you guys at Range 14, Ft. Dix or a range in Philly if she wants to shoot handgun. PM me if this is an option for you.

    THat's pretty funny...she lives in Washington Township/Turnersville.
