  1. I spent Literally hours searching the internet and turned up exactly one M13 x 1 LH thread muzzle break to fit the Steyr Aug. They were out of production for over 4 years and the company was down to the last 3 in stock. I purchased one just to be safe but ultimately decided to have my existing AUG flash hider converted to a muzzle brake. The finish still needs to be applied but I am very happy with the way it turned out. Total cost was $83 plus shipping. Of course I supplied the Styre flash hider. The opening had to be narrowed to just slightly larger then the bullet diameter.
  2. My FFL has confirmed they are willing to transfer the new STG77 40th Anniversary. However, I do not like that the Stock says AUG/SA even though the receiver is clearly only marked STG77. The new STG77 has actual design changes when compared to an AUG A1/A2. Plus the gun is clearly being marketed as the STG77. Some questions: Would putting the a stock marked AUG/SA onto a legally transferred Steyr USR make it illegal? Is the New STG77 Anniversary edition Illegal because the removable stock has AUG/SA on it even though the model STG77 is clearly marked on the receiver? If yes, would putting an original STG77 stock on change the status to legal? I'm not sure if there are definitive answers to these questions but just thought I would shared some of the inconsistencies I'm dealing with now that I have decided to go down the NJ Steyr AUG rabbit hole. 3. Interesting I did not realize the Original STG77's were available in the US. Below is an image showing the Stock was marked STG77 (Not AUG). I could not find a picture of the how the original STG77 receiver was marked. The Steyr USR stock is marked simply "USR" and the receiver has no model number. Just the letters USR in the Serial Number. Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk Pro
  4. Exactly, but how is an average Joe supposed to know what new versions of a named banned gun is legal other then to trust the FFL who transfers it to us. There is no published list like in CA and the rules are not cut and dry to be able to figure it out... Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk Pro
  5. An who decides what is banned and what is significantly different enough to be allowed? For example... with the new Steyr STG77 I showed the Pictures of the receiver to my FFL and he said he would transfer it to me... Does that mean it is Jersey Legal? I would assume I am covered legally???
  6. NJ lists " Steyr A.U.G. semi-automatic firearms" as a specific banned weapon" The "Steyr USR" is basically the same gun with just a model name change and is NJ Legal. As is the soon to be released "Steyr STG77" their 40th Aniversary Edition AUG style rifle. I recently read that California had banned the (make) Styer-Mannlicher (model)AUG/SA" However these versions are allowed in CA (make) Steyr-Mannlicher (model) USR (make) Steyr Arms (model) AUG/A3 SA USA Is there any way to get the current production (model)Steyr AUG A3 M1 to be interpreted as not being banned? Is is just a matter of convincing an NJ FFL to legally transfer my a rifle or would a letter from the Attorney General be required? The current "AUG" manufacture and model name are different. Plus the actual receiver although backwards compatible is not the same. Significant changes like NATO versions requiring different magazines , Bolt hold open and release controls added, Firing Pack changes, etc The Colt AR-15 is Banned but somehow now all kinds a Colt Model AR's are now NJ legal. How are AK rifles allowed? I know the MAK-90 has an AG letter but what about the rest? Some of the NJ banned weapons are worded as "xxxxx Type" such as FN-FAL Type". I think the legislative intent was for weapons listed as a "type" to continue to be banned regardless of future changes. Luckily the Steyr AUG is not listed as a Type, this should help get it A3 M1 version legalized? Everyone says if it has the words AUG in the model name it is a non-starter but I'm not sure why that is the case. Very confusing how similar type rifles as banned by name get somehow legalized? 7. Hello, Are re you still interested in doing the bee hives? Let me know. thanks, jeff
  8. Yes... if and when they become available I read an article that Steyr USA only sold 10k riles in 7 years.( 120 / month). So once the initial wow of the F90 is gone how many rifles will they be able to sell. It will be a real Niche market.. US buyers want $700 AR-15's.. Anything over $1500 is a tough sell.
  9. FYI - Steyr is releasing a 40th Anniversary edition of the AUG A1.. It is called the STG77 and the receiver is marked as such... This may be an opportunity to get a new Steyr... They are being limited to only 400 rifles. Check with your FFL but I don't see why this would be prohibited in NJ. It is NOT a Steyr AUG. [emoji6]but it does resemble one..
  10. Correct. I believe after 2004 when the Federal AWB sunset these were ok for conversion.
  11. This is what the USR stock looks like if you remove the thumb hole . And these pics are before cerekote. I'm Going to buy a spare A3 this way I'll get the bolt release button not on the USR/A2 stocks but totally not necessary to convert the USR to an AUG.
  12. I don't think it matters if the stock is marked AUG.. the receiver is marked USR. You could put a Stock on you AR clone if it said "Colt AR-15"Same difference.. i hope the receiver does say AUG. Go buy the NIB USR on gun broker.. about the same as a new AUG with the steyr 1.5x scope.
  13. The NIB USR was $2k... Back in early 2000's they sold retail for $2500-$3000. But now that Steyr is making AUG's in the US the price has dropped. They would only appeal the collectors or Banned States. Only 3000 were imported.
  14. High Exposure talked me out of getting a used MSAR with no parts availability and enlighten me as to the NJ legal status of the Steyr USR. It turns out the USR model uses the same Parts/Stock as the AUG. I should be picking up the NIB Steyr USR below from my FFL in about a week. I was told a lot of these guns simply had the barrel threaded for a break and the thumb hole dremeled off and cerekoted. I saw pictures and it looks perfect... however these are somewhat of a collectible so I think I will pick up a spare A3 Aug stock and spare barrel... Also, no sense in a quick change barrel if you don't have a spare to change to. There is another NIB Steyr USR on GunBroker if anyone is interested.
  15. With it being adopted as the new service rifle for the Australian Army I expect service and support to be around for awhile... I worry the Desert Tec MDR will end up like MSAR after a 5 year run and go out of business.
  16. Lithgowarms Atrax F90 is her name... to be released any day now. Anyone interested? I would love to get an MSAR but since they are out of business I'd hate to risk a breakage. Part are impossible to find. http://www.lithgowarms.com/portfolio-item/f90/
  17. I swapped for the 13" top rail and short forearm for the x95.. What to do you think looks wise? It feels and seems to handle very nice. I have not gotten it to the range yet though. The swap took all of 5 minutes.. my break is pinned on.. I was able to swap over the pinned break. very easy to switch back and forth. In the longer formed there was a muzzle bushing right behind the muzzle break. I left it off for now... going to see if there is any accuracy improvement. Others have reported no noticeable change in accuracy.
  18. Ok thanks for trying... it just seems like you are crapping on all my posts lately... Even following me on over to the bullpup forum for more of the same.. Perhaps I'm over sensitive and or it is unconscious on your part. Just letting you know how I feel, not trying to provoke more negativity here.
  19. It's my thread.... and it has been off topic for quite a few post. People started discussing proliferation of bullpups in general.. If you want to be a thread Nazi... By all means start your own and keep in on track however you like.
  20. Anyone plan on getting the Desert Tec MDR? https://deserttech.com/product_overview.php?product_id=4&load=product_overview
  21. Your residency for tax purposes can be determined by time spent in a specific state but for the purpose of jurisdiction Your Domicile is what matters. The things that can be used to determine your domicile (not necessarily where you spend the vast majority of your time) are banking address, health insurance address, church or professional affiliations, primary doctors, accountant, storage of important items, car registration, voter registration, family ( where is my wife and kids living), etc, etc. No one thing is critical but taken as a whole it is able to be determined where someone considers their domicile to be. In 1972 Supreme Court ruled no duration residency required for state voter registration. Only that the State be your intended domicile. So if you "Want" to be a resident of PA even thou you spent 99% of your time in NJ get a physical residency in PA, click your heals 3x saying " I am a PA resident". Then setup the majority of your affairs to reference your PA address and store your prized baseball card collection there along with your favorite hat. Definition of Domicile (State of legal Residency) For purposes of jurisdiction, “domicile” means a legal residence which is the place where a person has fixed dwelling with an intention of making it his/her permanent home. Domicile is a combination of two factors namely, residence and intent to make it his/her permanent home.
  22. I would say more then 50% of people put the meprolight M21 on the Tavors... It's is what the IDF uses on the military Tavors. I suggest the triangle dot as the tip can be used for precision shots. It pairs nicely with the meprolight M6 3x magnifier.
  23. Congratulations!!!!. What optic are you going to run with it? If you are interested in the Manticore Arms curved butttpad let me know. I have one brand new.
  24. What to you all think of the short forearm and matching short rail available now? I have to cut off and replace my break so while I have it apart I was thinking of going with the short look... I don't run with anything on the rails so I don't need the length. Mainly just wondering if it is a better look. Someday if I leave the gun in Florida I may SBR it but not any time soon. Below is my gun in FDE and a generic rifle just to show you the short forearm. Keep in mind my barrel will be 1" shorter.
  25. Just move on... I can't be bother with this thread anymore... Next topic..
