  1. Speaking of Box O'Truth: http://www.theboxotruth.com/the-box-o-truth-14-rifles-shotguns-and-walls/ Here's the summary: Lessons learned:Contrary to what we have been told, XM-193 does not seem to “fragment” when shot into drywall walls. After we were through for the day, we even shot several more rounds of XM-193 into the walls to see if we could get one to fragment. They did not. It is clear that they were tumbling and deviating from the flight path, but they were still penetrating the walls. Now, before anyone says it, No, I do not know how much damage they would do to someone after the 4th wall. But they would do some damage as they were still penetrating. Remington 55 grain JSP and Frangible 5.56 also penetrated all 4 walls. So did the .30 Carbine. When shooting rifles, walls are concealment, not cover. 00 Buck penetrates 4 walls with ease. It is a great “Stopping” round, but there is a price to pay. Until someone invents a “Phaser” like on Star Trek, anything that will stop a bad guy, will also penetrate several walls. Birdshot does not excessively penetrate drywall walls. But it does not penetrate deeply enough to reach a bad guy’s vital organs. Birdshot makes a nasty but shallow wound. It is not a good Stopper. Use Birdshot for little birds. Use 00 Buckshot for bad guys. The sun was shining, it was a lovely day, and it was fun shooting stuff.
  2. Disclaimer: I know, I know, James Yeager sucks, etc. However, he's on point here: (specifically at 4:15 for your question, David).
  3. 870/500 series Mossbergs = 6 of one, half a dozen of another. Both have long service histories in LE & military. I favor the Mossberg for two reasons: ·Location of safety ·Loading gate Otherwise go with whichever you like best
  4. Same. I just put in for 3, whether I intend to use all 3 or not.
  5. There is no limit on the number of permits for which you can apply. However, permits to purchase a pistol are only valid for 90 days from the issue date. So, typically you would only be able to use 3 within that 90-day window. You may be able to have them extended for an additional 90 days, for a total of 180 days from the issue date. Extension of permits is entirely at the discretion of your local Chief Law Enforcement Officer. He/she does not have issue an extension. Some do, some won't, some want you to provide an explanation for needing the extension. If you plan on taking possession of multiple handguns at one time, you can apply for a exception to the one-gun-a-month rule. Such exceptions go through the State Police and are usually granted without any issue.
  6. FWIW, recreational shooting with your hunting guns is hunting practice. Bringing your thrower, a couple of friends and shooting 2 or 3 boxes of clays is fun (recreation), but it also gets you out shooting your bird gun and working on skills that translate to being more effective in the field. And being able to shoot with others makes it more likely that you'll put in more trigger time.
  7. What H.E. wrote makes perfect sense. However, I think the idea behind Gladwell's argument is that 10k hours of practice will eventually make you better, even if you start out being really bad at whatever the skill set is. For instance, playing an instrument: even someone who knows nothing about playing guitar, has no talent and is self-taught, the theory says, will eventually figure out what he's doing wrong and actually become really good at it. While someone with natural talent and a good teacher will, with 10k hours of practice, become a virtuoso.
  8. All security sixes came with wood Lett grips
  9. Yup. In the late 70s my brother and I (both less then 12 years old) buying cigarettes for our father and playing with realistic looking plastic bb guns and homemade crossbows in the street. Now I'm in another thread trying to figure out if a Daisy "rifle" is considered an SBR...
  10. Midway, though a bunch of other websites (pyramid air, Amazon, air gun something or other, etc) list the same bbl length. http://www.midwayusa.com/product/547404/daisy-1938-red-ryder-air-rifle-177-caliber-bb-wood-stock-blue-barrel-with-fun-kit Gander Mtn is the only outlier. It says 12".
  11. Awesome. Congrats on your conversion. My route was the opposite, but still ended up on the same place. I started out with shotguns and 38/357, then 9mm, then 45ACP, then 30 cal and finally a .22lr rifle. And then I shot bullseye a few times so I needed a .22 handgun. But to be honest, I just don't get the thrill of shooting .22s. I know it's cheap, but meh.
  12. I was looking into getting Daisy Red Ryder to teach my nephew some fundamentals. So I find the specs online and: Technical Information: Caliber: 177 Cal Weight: 2.2 lb. Overall Length: 35.4" Barrel Length: 10.85" Since bb guns are considered firearms by our stupid state gov't, does that make this a short barreled rifle? Seriously?
  13. I made it into a teachable moment with the wife.
  14. ·Have you considered a Ruger LCR? ETA: +1 on GRIZ's ammo recommendation.
  15. My only S&W: Model 10 from the 70s. No mods.
