  1. Even though, in principle, I agree with everyone's stance here and understand where they are coming from, this will boil down to what your life's experience's are and your choices based on those experiences. In this case, I have to side with High Exposure and his more cautionary approach with not consuming alcohol in public while armed. NO one is right or wrong, it's more about what you are willing to deal with during the aftermath. Having been involved with interrogatories and depositions myself, I would not want that "monkey" on my back even if a justifiable shoot had occurred. The link to the Federal Law that Shane posted seems pretty straightforward, though I do have question about the " has/had statutory power of arrest or apprehension under the Uniform Code of Military Justice" part. Several paragraphs below the listed criteria it states that you must meet all of the requirements above. Since there is no "OR" mentioned in that requirement, I would have to think that it is a sticking point, just as any of the others could be, dependent upon circumstances. I could be completely wrong (it won't be the first time, LOL).
  2. Great point right there! The vast majority of people who (think they) are against guns have never owned or even fired one. They believe what the hardcore anti's, media, and politicians tell them without having any first hand knowledge to make an informed decision on their own.
  3. Seems as if 9/10 was their official e-mail response day since we all seemed to have gotten the same one on that date. To me, his response was geared more toward the anti's since he went into detail explaining why he vetoed certain bills and didn't pass them. Don't get me wrong, I'm glad he vetoed them and the explanation certainly helps to understand the thought process behind it. Overall, I am somewhat pleased with the outcome, though I think the mental health bill could be a nightmare for our 2A rights in general. Now if we could just get a little back instead of having to constantly fight to keep from losing more and more, that would be something I could feel a lot better about.
  4. I had mine laminated to help protect it from wear and tear. Generally, I keep mine locked up with other documents, ss card, etc. and out of my immediate possession. If I plan on purchasing ammo, another gun, or need it for carrying to a range I'll retrieve it. It also helps to keep my impulse purchases down to a minimum.
  5. Just when you think this state could not get any more ridiculous, they go and raise the bar again. On a pellet rifle, really? Unf*cking believable.
  6. Sorry to hear that you are having problems with it. I have several Gamo air rifles over the years and they have been darn good for the most part.....trigger being the biggest issue. Typically accuracy can be affected by these: type/brand/weight of pellet loose screw connection between the receiver action and stock scope/mount creep spring powered air gun quality scope Worst case scenario is that you have a cut piston seal. Its not unheard of since it can happen upon assembly as there are a fair amount of sharp edges on the chamber tube. It can play havoc with velocity consistency and result in poor accuracy also. If you know anyone with a chronograph you could run a string of shots to check to see how consistent the velocity is.
  7. I'll cast my vote for the AR15 as well. But the other calibers mentioned would definitely fit the bill also. My wife is small framed and has hardware in her neck from a fracture (from years ago) and has been able to shoot an AR with no issues. I mention this because she isn't able to fire a gun that has too strong of recoil energy.
  8. Yup the system definitely sucks. There are far too many instances in which one of these scumbags gets leniency for a violent crime only to be released and victimize someone else. Its sickening.
  9. Same here, I never watched the show, though I had seen him in several movies and think he was a talented performer. However this would not warrant the lowering of a flag for him or any other entertainer. I find this current trend regarding the lowering of the flag for celebrities disgustingly disrespectful to the true fallen heroes who deserve such honor. Just another sign of the times I suppose.
  10. RIP Lautenberg. As Jerry Seinfeld would say "thats a shame".
  11. I had ridden dirt bikes and have been a fan of Mx/Sx for years. One of my regrets will always be that I didn't put in the effort to train and enter at least one organized race when I was younger. Still love watching it on TV though.
  12. yes. Spring/piston air rifles do need a "settling down" period. Sounds as if you had excess lubricant in front of the piston seal and your gun was "dieseling" (lubricant was igniting from compression) a bit. This sometimes does happen with new spring/piston magnum air rifles primarily from when it was assembled at the factory. After a couple of "hot" shots it should be good to go. If it continues for too many shots, it can eventually damage your gun. Get rid of the PBA ammo as BillC mentioned. Get yourself several different brands of normal weight pellets and see which your gun likes best. (I had a much longer explanation written but for some reason it did not post). Just as well, LOL.
  13. I'm guessing that a normal or heavy weight pellet won't help much in this case since the gun is so powerful. Sounds like you want a break barrel air rifle that shoots normal weight pellets (approx. 7 grains) at around 800-1000 fps max. Keep in mind that if you use lightweight pellets (such as Raptor PBA) in a 1000 fps air rifle you will still get that loud "crack" as if you shot a bullet also because of the increase in velocity to approx.1200 fps. There are many .177 cal break barrel rifles that shoot in the 800-1000 fps range with normal weight pellets (gamo has quite a few). Also Lowslowmiata brought up an excellent point in that the majority of .22 cal break barrel air rifles won't fire their pellets supersonic (due to their extra mass) either . I have several air rifles, two of which are gamo's (Shadow and CFX) and with normal weight pellets these are plenty powerful without the loud cracking noise.
  14. First off, great job James! Very well spoken and I saw no yelling or threatening behavior whatsoever. The $hitty part of this is that Norcross didn't want to hear any more and decided to declare you "out of order" which, by any reasonable persons standards, was inappropriate and uncalled for. The comment about your first amendment rights was a nice touch also, but obviously didn't matter since your opinion was different than his. The mere fact that the politicians get away with this sort of thing is both frightening and disrespectful. I'm hoping some of the more moderate or conservative media outlets get their hands on this video (we all know the liberal media won't care) and make this politician look like the jackass that he is.
  15. Do they have an "auto bid" function similar to Gunbroker? If so, you would've had to keep increasing your bid until you surpassed the other bidders max bid setting.
  16. I remember when I was a kid there was talk of this North/South split. EDIT: Dan, that map that you had posted is both disturbing and hilarious at the same time, LOL.
  17. Very well stated and I couldn't agree more. I would give anything to see their reaction to this. Way to go on the offensive. I love it! I definitely agree. What we really need is for some legislators to push for gun bills that are less restrictive than current laws in order to push the line back in the other direction. As was stated by yourself and as was mentioned in a another thread on this forum, we are constantly playing defense and, as such, will eventually lose our right. When you think about it, in too many instances some type of anti gun bill is proposed and it is either, signed into law or some sort of "compromise" is reached. Sadly, the compromise still ends up being more restrictive than the current law. We are incrementally losing our right to bear arms slowly but surely. When was the last time any gun related law was relaxed in this state? Oh wait, maybe I spoke too soon, they did want to lessen the degree for the criminal charge for unlawfully possessing a BB gun. Sorry for the rant.
  18. Thats a great idea. But unfortunately it makes too much sense for NJ to do something like that. And what would be the difference if he saw your FPID card in your wallet? Either way it doesn't establish probable cause.....maybe on some tv shows but not in the real world. Yup thats the problem. Too much misinformation gets spread based on peoples ill conceived perceptions. On that end, I'm a firm believer that media plays a huge part in it. Bingo! This, and as was posted earlier in the thread......Driving is a "privilege" (entitlement that can be taken) while lawful possesion of firearms is a constitutional "right" (guarantee) and there should never be anything that would blur the very clear line separating the two. How does everyone feel about losing their FPID for having too many points on their license or not paying an insurance surcharge, etc?
  19. I will say this, I've spoken with the owner a couple of times and he always seemed pretty decent. Nice store, but his pricing leaves a lot to be desired. He does seem to be anti military style weapons, but I'm certain that with the current price markup he would make an exception. He had loads of shotguns and hunting rifles with only a handful of "black" rifles when I was there last summer. But I suppose the reality of it, given his location, there is a large populace of hunting enthusiasts in the area and I'm sure he's geared his business for the those locals. But, like others have said, his prices are much too high. For instance, I made a purchase of PMC .223 ammo in July and he charged $9.99 a box. Granted, that it may be cheap by todays price, but keep in mind, this was before the recent AWB stuff and ammo "shortage" and I had gotten the same ammo from A-n-A for just under $7. Thats $3 a box difference!!!! I was going shooting that day and needed it so I bought some, but I WILL NOT go back to purchase any more. So I'm not surprised in the least that he is against online sales of ammo. Want to purchase a gun elsewhere and then get a transfer to his store? LOL. He wants $75.00 to do transfers. So far, that is the most expensive I've found anywhere. Would I do business with him again? It depends....I suppose if I had to. I would have to be in need of something at that particular moment and unable to get it locally elsewhere, but in all reality, I don't foresee that happening any time soon.
  20. Hmmmmm, one of my ammo purchases was scanned in Parsippany this afternoon. Looks like I'm gonna have to sweat this out as well. And I still have another yet to be shipped....this is going to be interesting. Makes sense. A couple of years ago, I had that happen twice within a month where there was no package delivered even though it was listed in the tracking history as being left on door step. Call in to FedEx to report it and In each case the packages were delivered early the next morning, each time by the same driver.
  21. nope, I had thought the same thing when I first got into AR's. For example, check out a Stag model 3 (shorter gas block) and a Windham SRC (gas block even with upper) and you'll see the difference. Also keep in mind, if you find a front sight that says its for a gas block, then it is for the shorter gas block, not the one that is level with the upper. In that case you would need a "same plane" front/rear sight combo.
  22. I have a set of Yankee Hill Machine same plane folding iron sights on my AR. They function great, seem to be well made, and don't cost an arm and a leg. If you have a railed gas block (like I have), I'd be very careful using Magpul polymer sights on it.
  23. I wonder if he's the guy who "repositioned" my neighbors car because he was behind on his payments? I know, I know, but I couldn't let that one slip by.
