  1. Bought a handgun on Wednesday morning (Dec 26)...got the call to pickup on Saturday morning (Dec 29)...not shut down but slow.
  2. I bought a Beretta 92FS at Shore Shot on Wednesday, Dec 26. They put my NICS in that day (I don't know if it was a phone in or a fax), and I got the call to come pick it up on Saturday morning. So it took almost 3 days to get through NICS.
  3. Sorry if this was already posted here (I didn't see it). This is an interesting study out of Harvard, published in a peer-reviewed journal. A summary of the document is here: http://theacru.org/acru/harvard_study_gun_control_is_counterproductive/ The whole document is here: http://www.law.harvard.edu/students/orgs/jlpp/Vol30_No2_KatesMauseronline.pdf Some key conclusions borrowed from the summary in the first link: (1) The study found that 9 European nations with the lowest rates of gun ownership have a combined murder rate 3 times higher than that of the nine nations with the highest rates of gun ownership. Norway has the highest rate of gun ownership in Western Europe, yet possesses the lowest murder rate. In contrast, Holland's murder rate is nearly the worst, despite having the lowest gun ownership rate in Western Europe. (2) The study also shows that Russia's murder rate is four times higher than the U.S. and more than 20 times higher than Norway. Russia practically eradicated private gun ownership over the course of decades of totalitarian rule and police state methods of suppression. Needless to say, very few Russian murders involve guns. I sure do hope this gets considered in the gun control debate that we anticipate in 2013.
  4. In my town (Wall Township), they wanted 20 years when I applied, which also overlapped my college years at the time. I would surely have had the same problem...but I was lucky, I still had all of my old income tax returns. Check there if you have them!
  5. Ray Ray, I apologize if I offended you. I didn't intend to. I was only asking a question, and I admitted my ignorance (which is why I asked the question).
  6. Sorry, not a troll. I am simply asking an honest question, and I am showing my ignorance and not trying to cause trouble. I apologize if it offends people and if that is the case, lock this thread and I won't post a question like this again.
  7. Again please understand that I am showing my ignorance here, not professing support for/against a gun show loophole. This is a more general issue across the country, not just in NJ. I understand and live with our gun laws. It is also my understanding that the FFLs need to do a NICS no matter what, so the "gun show loophole" might better be described as a "private sale loophole." And also from what I read, most states (I found the figure of 33 states on this website: http://civilliberty.about.com/od/guncontrol/a/Gun-Shows.htm) allow private owners to sell guns and have no requirement to do any background check. I think this is the issue, these sales that require no background check at all.
  8. All - I have a question that will expose my naïveté. I am a newbie here but I have been a gun owner for a fairly long time. I am a firm believer in my 2nd Amendment rights, and I often wish I lived in a state with more realistic gun laws. But there is one point often raised by the anti-gun lobby that I wonder if it might be legitimate: What is the argument against closing the "gun show loophole"? I believe we all agree that guns should only be available to the right people. I feel that background checks are reasonable steps to try to ensure, to the best degree that we can, that guns stay out of the hands of people who should not have them. So what is the problem with requiring background checks for all gun sales? I am not trying to stir the pot. I am certainly not wavering in my support for the 2nd Amendment. I just have never heard an argument about why the gun show loophole should not be closed. Please, educate me.
  9. I am curious to learn what ended the shooting spree. All I have seen so far is that the shooter is dead, and that the police did not shoot him. So either he killed himself, or perhaps it is wishful thinking that someone with a CCW took care of it.
  10. Arrest records for a lot of states are now available online. It looks like in Nevada, you can get your own criminal record very easily but unfortunately not online. The link with instructions is here: http://nvrepository.state.nv.us/criminal/forms/PersonalNevadaCriminalHistory.pdf Looks like it will take about a month after you submit the info.
  11. I read the link. I am not so sure they are "anti gun" as they are "anti politics." Note they also refuse to co-brand with alcohol or sex-related items, either. As an alternative point of view, perhaps what they are doing is trying to be neutral in order to not offend anyone. After all, the NRA has its haters as well. If WWP came out as supportive of gun rights and appearing on firearm-related radio shows or events, that might alienate donors who have the opposite position that we do. Just a thought...maybe their position is to avoid having a position (or even give someone the perception of a position), and thereby choose to avoid co-branding with items that somebody might find objectionable (sex, alcohol, and guns all tend to rile up somebody).
  12. 55 days for me. But I am cutting them a break due to Sandy. I won't pester for a few more weeks.
