  1. No, it was definitely the standard version SP1 Sporting. That's actually what MSRP is on the Beretta website so I guess they start at MSRP and work their way down when negotiating. The Browning was actually more like $3100. It was the 725 Sporting (the one they had on hand that is). Felt nice for a guy with big hands.
  2. In fairness I'm sure they'd work with the price a little. They mentioned being able to maybe work with the taxes charged. They had a SP1 from last year without the 'ribbing' between the barrels and that was listed at 2245 I think. Either way they were real nice folks. If the price was a little closer I'd have walked away with one that day.
  3. Stopped by G&H and handled a few. nice guys in there but the prices are darn steep. 2400 for the 686 SP1. can pick it up for $500 less elsewhere. I sure do like the feel of that Browning 725 but I think it's a tad out of the range I'm looking to spend.
  4. I want to like it and it looks sharp but I also saw a couple questionable reviews online. I'm weary of buying a first version of certain things. An O/U might be one. Though I still want to play with it!
  5. I wish I had that sort of time. I'm not married and don't have kids but live so close to the city, even just getting to a place in time would be tough. I really want to try sporting clays - sounds like a blast.
  6. Roger that, thanks for the info. He clearly has nicer wood on his than most of the others I see around online wi h actual photos.
  7. Some great advice here, thanks. I did notice GH prices were spendy but would be nice to handle a bunch. Also noticed Etchen's site. The wood patterns look very nice and the prices aren't THAT much higher. Do they do other stuff to the be to gun or is it solely woodwork?
  8. Thanks for the quick responses gents. Griffin and Howe is pretty close to me so I think I'll try to check them out. That MM place looks pretty nice - maybe worth a mini road trip one of these days. i'll keep an eye out for the shotgun shoot (think I saw a forum for that). My shooting is really trending towards shotgun these days - having a lot of fun with it when I can find the time.
  9. Hi all. Wondering if anybody knows a good place, other than driving out to Cabelas, to look at and handle several decent over/unders. I'm in the market for one somewhere in the price range from the Silver Pigeon I to the Browning 725 but really want to handle a few. I've been able to handle a couple at Thunder Mountain but they don't sell too much. I am in Bayonne. Thanks!
  10. aw, i was typing as you posted. I'm slow on the draw
  11. They don't advertise it widely but they do, in fact, make them. They told me recently, via Rep response to an arfcom post, that they're making a batch of them again now. BUT, they also told me when I ordered in July that there wasn't many orders and I should expect them soon. We're sort of past soon. Maybe they're making more due to recent changes in other states - not sure, that's just speculation as I think about Colorado and other states with recent drama. So, they are about as common and elusive as greased unicorns but they exist. I didn't discuss model # when I called but google search says Part# 39498.
  12. My apologies if this is one of those 'here we go again' topics. I know this has to have been discussed, and I found an old link to some places that sell them but are out of stock. Please be gentle folks. Is anyone seeing them around, either on retailers websites or around the forums or auction sites? I don't check really often but every couple months I think about it and look around. I've had an order sitting in queue with S&W since July with no news. I think the answer here is going to be, "hold your breath" but I guess if us M&P owners talk about it enough, they'll do something eventually. Or, I'd like to think. i'm at a point where I'd pay a high price because I prefer it that much to my G19 due to my big hands.
  13. I'm late to the conversation but have a few SOGs and like them. I prefer my fixed blades from them (Seal Pup Elite straight edge, and NW Ranger 2). Both really nice and tough for all around camp work. As for folder, I have an Aegis which I really like and want to love but it has too much movement in the blade because it has no liners (the same thing that makes it so light though). That said, I do really like the deployment and love that there are less parts than other types of deployment systems. I tend to keep it as a backup around the house or in a range bag or emergency go bag. Gotta say that I LOVE the push button 'unlock' feature that they use. It just feels intuitive and no frills, also allowing for one handed closure if needed. It works great with my big hands.

Blake, I'm sort of in your camp. I have giant hands and the gun just doesn't feel right to me even though I shoot it well enough. My issue is that my full size M&P9 only takes 10 rounds, which is a bummer. My G19 takes 50% more rounds and that's why it's currently my primary HD gun. Sure do wish S&W would get around to fulfilling my order for 15 round mags that I placed back in July. I much prefer that gun and want it to be the go-to.
  15. I am not on the forum too often but I'd like to second this. I went to RTSP for the first time a little over a week ago and wrote a pretty long review on yelp, partially on this same topic. I just got a really great vibe from the entire staff. got a "how's it going man?" as I walked in and talked to two of the RO's who were both friendly, helpful, and 'normal folks' as I often use the term. They were also never standing still, altering time between doing the normal RO stuff AND sweeping shells away from shooters feet. The guys, and gal, working the retail area were quick to offer to show me stuff and I felt welcomed. What a great place - really wish I lived closer. I'd be a member if I did.
