  1. Just a quick question.

    NJ states that a semi-automatic firearm should be considered to be "substantially identical," that is, identical in all material respects, to a named assault weapon if it meets the below listed criteria:

    A semi-automatic rifle that has the ability to accept a detachable magazine and has at least two of the following:

    (1) A folding or telescoping stock;

    (2) A pistol grip that protrudes conspicuously beneath the action of the weapon;

    (3) A bayonet mount;

    (4) A flash suppressor or threaded barrel designed to accommodate a flash

    suppressor; and

    (5) A grenade launcher;

    For the AK, you keep the pistol grip, therefore, in order to satisfy NJ requirements, the barrel cannot have the dreaded bayonet lug.

    Are there multiple ways to make the bayonet lug inoperable? I know the most common way is to grind off the ears, but can you also add a weld to the ears to make them too large to accept a bayonet?

  2. Up up up. 2-3 years ago M44s were $120. Early last year they were like $160-$180. Widener's just had really clean matching M44s for $219 a week ago. In November they were $199.

    On Gunbroker right now, all matching and good condition is absolutely crazy. Like $300

    If you're looking for the real deal M44, expect to be paying $200 for a shooter, $250 for a matching good condition. All Mosins are just military rifles. Your'e got going to be getting crazy accurate groups. If you want a cheap shooter, some Type 53s are still cheap.

  3. The Romy G parts kit that I just bought for an AK build has a threaded barrel. I need to get rid of the evil threads by permanently attaching a Muzzle Brake. I have a few questions.

    What is universally accepted as a Muzzle Brake vs a Flash Suppressor in NJ?

    Is the following procedure considered "permanent attachment"? I will drill a hole through the brake, thread it onto the barrel and then spot weld it in place.

    Does anyone have any USA made recommendations based on past experience with shooting them?
