With all of the division in this country, I thought it might be appropriate to re-read what Lincoln had to say 157 years ago: "Four score and seven years ago our fathers brought forth on this continent, a new nation, conceived in Liberty, and dedicated to the proposition that all men are created equal.   5. OK, since there are apparently are few hard-core gamers here, I need some advice. I am going for my pilot's license, and you can "fly" some of the lessons on MS Flight Simulator 2021. I am running a laptop in a docking station with 2 monitors. The laptop is an ideapad FLEX 6, Intel i5-8250 @ 1.6 GHz, 8 GB RAM, Win 10. I haven't purchased Flight Simulator yet, but am considering it. Will this machine have the "oomph" to run this, or am I just kidding myself?

  9. Answer your own question. You have a choice: Give your keys to a kid with no experience or Driver's Ed, or to the same kid who's gone through a Driver's Ed program. Who do you think is safer? And who would you rather be on the road with?
  10. So, you would be willing to hand your cars keys to a 16 year old kid with no training or experience whatsoever, and say "go for it"?
  11. I know this is an unpopular opinion, but I would have no problem with some level of training being required, and I'll tell you why. Other than some of the scary shit I've seen at public ranges, the gun culture in this country has changed. It used to be that at a certain age you were given a gun by your dad, and he took the time to teach you basic firearm safety and marksmanship. I was lucky, I was a scout, my dad was a scout leader, and he taught me to shoot an an early age with a single shot Remington bolt action .22, which I still have. Hell, in 7th and 8th grade at Raritan elementary school we had a gun club run by the shop teacher, who was also an NRA instructor. But that sort of thing has skipped a few generations. Many new gun owners never grew up with guns in the house, and have little idea of the rudiments of gun safety. Just think back on some of the behavior you've witnessed at gun ranges. Part of it is up to us as experienced, responsible gun owners to help train the next generation of shooters, but I, for one, would feel safer at a public range if I knew that everyone had gone through at least some basic safety instruction.
  12. Actually, that training already exists (at least for rifles and shotguns), and it's basically free. It's called the New Jersey Hunter Safety Course (emphasis mine).

  15. Easton Fish and Game. It's (relatively) cheap, nice facilities, and if you go during the week pretty empty. Everyone I have met there is very pleasant. But - there is no shotgun range (trap, skeet, or sporting clays). That said, if you are interested in clays, go to Lehigh Valley. The best sporting clays range I have ever been to.
  16. I own a Mossberg 500 (field version, 28" barrel, wood stock, 12 gauge). I have shot a number of 870s (same general configuration). I have big hands, and I am 6'2". To me, the 870 is too slender. The Mossy is "fatter" (which some do not like), but it works well for me. I add a slip-on recoil pad to increase LOP, and it's perfect. I have not shot an 870 with a synthetic stock, so they may be different, but to me, the Mossy just fits better. And in a shotgun, fit is everything.
  17. I received the latest issue of Guns & Ammo the other day and there is an ad for a Pointer O/U shotgun called the Acrius, with an MSRP of $589. For that price it looks pretty nice, especially the field version in Walnut.   18. Nice! Both of my hunting rifles are lever guns: A Marlin .30-30 for deer, and a Henry .22 for small game. Both are perfect tools for hunting in the North East (PA).
  19. When I first started shooting seriously (over 30 years ago), the best advice I ever got was "Buy the gun you really want, even if it's expensive. You'll end up spending way more on ammunition". Never were truer words spoken.

  22. Received mine today. Build quality looks great, and fits perfectly on my M9. Decocker is a little stiff, but I guess that will wear in. It is MUCH lighter than the standard M9 - feels like a totally different gun. Will try to get to the range this weekend, but it may have to wait until next week. I bought a ton of .22 after the last shortage - time to start using some of that up!
  23. As far as I know, Pigeon Swamp is not a WMA, so you cannot hunt small game there. Some state parks will allow deer hunting to control the population, but no small game. Just because you can hunt deer do not assume you can hunt anything else. This site lists all of the WMAs in NJ and links to maps, but does not provide hunting regulations. https://nj.gov/dep/fgw/wmaland.htm Find a WMA close to you, and then go to the web site of that specific WMA to see hunting regulations. There are not many (at least around me) that allow small game hunting.
