  1. Hey Everyone, I'm moving back to New Jersey from Philadelphia (for work). I'm 25 years old and work in NYC so I am going to be living in Hoboken. My question I have for the sharp legal minds on this forum revolves around Residency and where i keep my firearms. A lot of people my age maintain their legal residency at their parents' house. The reason is because renting apartments can get complicated. Room mates leave, get married, move in with significant others, and rents increase. I've moved 5 times in the last 5 years. If the trend continues when I move to Hoboken I will have to reapply for an FID every single time I move in addition to changing my address on my driver's licence. To avoid all this bureaucracy, I want to change my address to my mother's house. I will rent an apartment in Hoboken but my DL and my FID will have my mom's address. I've been trying to get a lawyer on the phone to discuss this issue (no luck thus far...with it being a holiday week and my one issue not being a very lucrative case). I have looked up some of the NJ Firearms laws: Nothing in subsections b., c. and d. of N.J.S.2C:39-5 shall be construed to prevent a person keeping or carrying about his place of business, residence, premises or other land owned or possessed by him, any firearm, or from carrying the same, in the manner specified in subsection g. of this section, from any place of purchase to his residence or place of business, between his dwelling and his place of business, between one place of business or residence and another when moving, or between his dwelling or place of business and place where such firearms are repaired, for the purpose of repair. For the purposes of this section, a place of business shall be deemed to be a fixed location. The term "other land owned or possessed by him" seems to me like a property I rent. However, I understand that this can be interrupted as me living in Hoboken because I will spend a majority of my time there, in which case I don't know if I would be breaking a law? Appreciate any input on this! Thanks, Amagi
  2. Hey Guys, I'm relocating for work. I'm moving to Hoboken from Philadelphia. I'm originally from New Jersey, so I"m more than familiar with the firearms laws however I just got off the phone with the Sergeant at the Hoboken Firearms Unit. I was told to get a voluntary registration form from the NJSP so I could register my hand guns (three hand guns). Is it common practice for them to bully you into registering your firearms, even though it isn't compulsory? I'm not registering anything. I just want to know if I am in for a ride when I go and try to get my FID. Thanks, Amagi
  3. Hey guys, A very disturbing article today raised my awareness to how New Jersey's corrupt police officers and draconian gun legislation have ruined another life. Please read this article---> http://dailycaller.com/2013/03/14/attorney-draconian-gun-laws-put-nj-man-in-prison-for-35-days-after-police-search-home-without-a-warrant/ And then please consider donating here ----> http://www.gofundme.com/Stand4Keith The video about the incident is here ----> I'm having trouble working right now because I'm so freaking angry. This crap has to stop. If anyone knows anyone at NJ2AS, please let them know about this incident! Thanks!
  4. I have not given up good sir! You will see me in Trenton on the 8th of February. I am proactive. I make budgets using spreadsheets. It's my job to budget hundreds of millions of dollars. I like to plan ahead given alternative economic scenarios. Move back in with my mom? Move to Jersey City? Move to Hoboken? There are a combination of decisions all with social and economic consequences and benefits. $200-$300 a month on ammo is already a big bite out of my personal disposable income. Increasing that burden will influence a lot of decisions I make. This is merely me attempting to gather information.
  5. Hey all, Being as we live in New Jersey, and big box stores don't sell ammunition...I wanted to know what the recourse is for cheap ammo to make shooting affordable? If they ban online sales, is the pooch screwed? Do I have to invest in a bullet press and finally learn how to reload? If I do, that will certainty raise some eyebrows from the landlords of those of us who rent and don't own our homes. Fabricating ammunition in our state may have some sort of permit requirement, or zoning issue. Is there any recourse besides driving to PA, or reloads? Are there any gun shops that sell cheap bulk ammo? There is a gun store in PA I've visited on the Delaware Border that sold .500 round boxes for a decent price ($160 w/ tax for 500 rounds of .40 caliber). Any thoughts? Thanks, Tom
  6. I thought this was a great way to address the "fire in a theater" argument: http://www.thetruthaboutguns.com/2013/01/foghorn/the-second-amendment-the-first-amendment-and-yelling-fire-in-a-crowded-auditorium/#more-188093
  7. Hey All, I'm sure all of you are going through what I am going through. I'm getting into a "discussion" every 5-seconds about gun control and our God given right to defend ourselves. I figured it would be a good time to have a thread to discuss the Liberal intelligentsia's favorite go to moves for gun control. I will base my initial original posting off of an argument I had with a girl (she's actually a super cute Obama Staffer, but I don't think I have a chance... considering I'm a gun owner monster). Her response to NJ's 18 civilian disarmament bills which were presented in the legislature today where nothing but praise and good will. Her general attitude was that, yes owning a firearm is a "right" but it is a "right" that should be subjected to heavy scrutiny and security checks. Psychological evaluations, site checks, banning online ammo purchase. These, in her eyes, are all very reasonable steps to insure public safety while at the same time making sure we still have the right to keep and bear arms. Now, of course I retorted that a Right should not be subjected to the whims and passions of majority rule, that government bureaucratic procedure is already hampering and cumbersome and adding a medical evaluation (one largely based off of intuition and opinion I might add) is far from an objective measure of who can be deemed fit to own a firearm. Furthermore, there are a myriad of additional unconstitutional issues raised with these bills. I also added that, these measures have little to do with public safety and a lot more to do with making owning and using a firearm harder, more difficult, more expensive and just plain not worth it. Her retorts were angry jabberings about how we regulate and control all other activities in this country, why not firearms...and because they are deadly weapons, we need to regulate the *$@% Out of them. She also accused me of being a conspiracy theorist Like it's hard to imagine that they want to ban online ammo sales or make you use a approved psychotherapist to not make it more difficult to exercise our rights. Before I could respond, she was leaving (left). It's sad that, she sees the fact that we haven't destroyed the 2nd Amendment like we've destroyed the other nine a bad thing. She recited that old so famous "You can't yell fire in a move" and "we register cars, and licence drivers...why not guns and gun owners???" HUH! I'm not sure if there is any arguing with someone like this...and to your average person the retorts of "well, the government keeping records of people who own guns and deciding who can own a gun is exactly what is anathema to a free society and goes against the origins of the amendment" don't go over well with your Average American Sheeple. So - I ask you NJ Gun owners, how do we boil down our argument to get the undecided to decide in our favor? How do we entice an entire group of people who care about designer clothing, soccer practice, farmers markets, and American Idol more than they care about their rights to ... actually care about their rights and not surrender them at the first sign of danger and scary news broad casts? The arguments need to be easy to follow, easy to understand and they need to HIT HARD. Any ideas?
  8. I'm very worried. My sister has a history of minor mental illness. I'll be a walking poster child for what happens when you put a RIGHT in the risk adverse hands of government bureaucrats!
  9. Also, I picked a GREAT TIME TO MOVE TO NEW JERSEY! Wonderful.
  10. What's the details on this march on February 8th? I need to request off from work.
  11. I posed this question to the NJ State Police a couple weeks ago. The Trooper on the phone seemed very confused and generally didn't feel like talking to me. He just told me to call the Police in the town I would be in to see if he had a problem with it. When I do move, I'll likely be in Hoboken or Westfield, and when I did some searching, I discovered that there are no ranges in "walking" distance. I would still love to be able to take the bus instead of having to rent a zip car every time I go to the range. Which isn't even that often, considering the cost of ammo these days.
  12. Brian - these look really good. and only 77 to 145lbs and within my range! Only hang up I have and I will follow up on this, is they say "one time lock installation". Not sure what that means? Otherwise a great find. Thanks!
  13. This does look awesome, but it weights 500lbs (literally). I know I am being picky...sorry. I'm young, and I still move around a lot because I rent. I doubt I would find a first floor apartment and carrying this up stairs is No-Bueno. If I owned a home, this would be on my Christmas list!
  14. Hey all, I've owned only handguns up until now. I have a small safe I use to store my handguns. It could be carried away, but it is small enough where I hide it inside a larger storage box filled with books. Unless a bunch of burglars who are interested in Statistics and Economics break into my house when I am not home, I shouldn't have much of an issue. I am going to be, in the coming months, expanding my collection to an AR-15 and a Remington 870. I wanted to know if anyone had any good suggestions for storage. I would like it to meet some criteria: - Cost Efficient: No $1,500 monster safes. Maybe max, $500 or $600. - Transportable: Maybe something I can transport fairly easily? Not too easily, mind you...but nothing ridiculous that weighs a metric ton. If a friend and me could move one if I move out of my apartment, that would suffice. - Secure/Safe: Obviously, the point of locking the firearms up is to keep the secure and safe. Please let me one has any suggestions! Thanks!
  15. With the recent string of victories and our momentum being carried, I personally hope (but do not necessarily believe) that we will get the result of what we want out of the pending NJ Court case on Concealed Carry. I think Judges are human, and when the NJ Case finally goes to be decided (like Maryland and Illinois were) we will encounter the beast of public opinion in our Judiciary. Judges, afraid of backlash may or may not (i'd urge on the "may" side) allow their decision to be impacted by the CT shooting and the influence of public outcry about guns (mostly from the North East and other areas of the country). With that in mind, if these cases make their way back to the Supreme Court, given how Roberts sank our ship on Obamacare, I don't know if they will rule that the 2nd Amendment applied to outside the home or if it is limited to the "reasonable" (whatever that means) regulation that the antis say it is. Personally, I think we have the potential to end up with Concealed Carry being recognized by the Courts but I expect the state & local governments to fight tooth and nail against any required implementation. I expect to see us only able to carry 10 round magazines after training and long waiting periods. I also expect the fees associated with these permits to be high ($100 - $200 +) and be renewed more often than similarly priced permits (I think Florida costs $90 + Finger prints but takes 7 years to expire). I also expect the standard list of places were we will not be allowed to carry such as: Court Houses, Government Buildings ext...and I also expect to see the pointless feel good list of places we will not be allowed to carry, such as: Schools, Malls, Starbucks, Playgrounds, and whatever other area our overlords deem too sensitive. Or we could lose. What say you, NJ Gun Forums? Do you think we're doomed...or do you think 2nd Amendment rights have advanced so much over the past 40 years that we can get through this? ~ Amagi
