  1. Apply for at least 2 permits......just in case. 3 permits can be tricky b/c you can only purchase 1 handgun every 30 days and permits are only good for 90 days, without an extension (if your PD will even extend them).
  2. So........when we doing it again? My friend who couldn't make it on the 12th is itching to shoot some clays. And me too!
  3. Yep, have to complete all the paperwork again incuding the personal references.....stinks (and I agree that it ns pretty absurd) but those are the rules. Maybe ask if they can do a phone interview for your referals or maybe just use the ones on file? Can't hurt to ask. Good luck. What are you thinking about purchasing for a handgun?
  4. Few months ago one of the ROs I was chatting with said they have over 3,000 members. Getting all members to take a 2 hours class, especially those who have been long time members, is a logistics nightmare and not all that realistic. While I'm still a newbie, it seems the rules are pretty straight forward and mostly common sense and common courtesy. They are posted on the website and I think shortened reminders are posted in shooting areas. A good idea may be to have short videos created simulating areas of concern and posting them to the website for anyone to review. While I've only been a member for about 3 months I've had nothing but great experiences at EFGA and am looking forward to having many more. I try to get out there about twice a month. May be heading out there this weekend depending on if I can kick this chest cold.
  5. Just wait unti you shoot one. THEN you will really, really want one.
  6. An entire city that's population is 20% addticted to heroin.......scary. The things people do to themselves is incomprehensible.
  7. Revolvers are probably the easiest gun to shoot. I'm sure single actions are available. I understand what you are saying about the light weight issue.....never really occured to me that a carry/concealable gun could be "too" light weight. If I were the young man becoming an officer I would probably first find out what that department's rules are and then ask some of the officers there what they recommend.
  8. Light, hammer-less revolver. I held one the other day and I swear my cell phone almost weighed almost the same (the gun was unloaded though). Something like a Ruger LCR or Smith and Wesson J-Frame. Congratulations and good luck to your son.
  9. My thought and prayers to the person who thought that this was their only way out and to the range officer(s) and others who witnessed it. It's a shame that people are thinking about how this will effect them....seriously?
  10. What is your opinion on the conversion kits? Many problems (fail to feed/fail to eject, etc) or do they work pretty well? I've heard many 22 conversion kits can be very ammo picky or just down right suck. How are the larger caliber conversion kits? PM sent.
  11. Purchse with 17 round mag and send to FFL that will make them NJ cpmpliant by blocking or pinning them. Prob cost about $10-$15 per mag. Cheaper than buying new ones.
  12. Thanks for the offer! See you shoot at Old Bridge Rifle & Pistol Club. That's not too far from me. Let me know if you have some time Saturday or Sunday morning an would love to try it out. Main concern is the grips. I have smaller hands. CZ 75B fits me my hands great but the Witness looks a little bulkier. Just want to make sure it's not too bulky.
  13. Just sent a forum member simple called "Max" a PM. Doesn't appear to be very active on the forums as they have no post so hopefully it is the right "Max" and they receive it. Thanks for the heads up & let me know if I have the incorrect "Max".
  14. I've read / heard about some of the issues with the 10mm and same with their spotty customer service but since I'm not looking at the 10mm and I've read / heard of stories of people who had problems, sent gun in and had gun back with problem resolved I'm willing to role the dice a little and hope I never have to find out for myself how good or bad their customer service is.
  15. Really looking at the steel versions. Don't know why but "guns" and "plastic" just don't seem to fit for me right now. Also, since conceal carry is virtually impossible in the Peoples Republic of NJ I'm not concernced about the additional weight. Maybe one day I'll look a the "plastic fantastics"....maybe one day soon.
  16. Hope you start feeling better soon. Keep me posted on an alternative shootout date. Had a great time time....just ask Zek. Still grinning almost 12 hours later!
  17. I shoot in Easton at Heritage Guild & EFGA. Seriously considering the EAA Witness Match in 9mm or 45. Have never held or shoot one so was wondering if I could meet someone who has one to take it for a test drive. If you have one but can't meet me please feel free to let me know how you like or dislike your's. Slickguns.com has them for about $550 delivered. Like the option of being able to buy several conversion kits for the frame & have heard they are good, accurate shooters.
  18. Actually no. I just have a ridicously overactive imagination.
  19. This is too easy....."Honey, I'll be out quite a few hours Saturday morning looking for your birthday gift."....... Another one....find an excuse today or tomorrow to drive her car. Upon returning ask her if she has noticied that one of her tires has developed what appears to be a small leak. You'll take it to the tire shop early Saturday morning for her to get it patched. Afterwards you may need to run a few errands to pick up some things at Home Depot. The tire store was really, really busy and you had to wait several hours.....and then man, was it packed at the one HD so you went to the other one a little further away. Let me know if you need any more too tuck away for future use.....
  20. Slugdog beat me to it. CZ 75 for about $500 is a tack driver. I shot one Sig (226 I think) and it was okay. Shot a buddies CZ 75 SP-01 and it was like the gun was MADE FOR ME. Purchased the base 75B and couldn't be happier. Read up on CZs, try one out and save close to $500. They may not look as nice or as sexy as a SIG but they are incredibly accurate shooters with a solid, worlwide reputation. If u shoot in Easton I can let you try mine some time.
  21. When I picked up my CZ 75 from Monmouth Arms they had a nice looking Lady Smith and Wesson 38. If she is looking for small, concealable, easy to use revolver it could do the trick. Nice looking gun as well. Monmouth Arms is a forum vendor (scroll to the bottom of the forums). Give Steve a call or PM him. If you don't care about concealable or carrying and are on a budget, look at the .357 Ruger GP100. She could run 38s through it and with it's sturdy build and weight it would practically have no recoil (in a 4 inch barrel). As far as renting guns, that can get expensive real quick. I'm sure some forum members would love to share their guns and let you try them out or if you have a general idea of what you want (as one forum member posted...think it was OldDog) just buy it. If you absolutely hate it, sell it and buy something else. Your "loss" in selling the gun would still be cheaper than renting several guns, purchasing ammo and range time. Ask me how I know.......I spent close to $300 renting several different guns trying to decide what I should get. I ended up purchasing one of the first guns I read about (Ruger GP100 but in .327 Federal Magnum) and I never rented it....but I did have quite a bit of fun! Young lady tried out my revolver this weekend while at the range. I was running .32s through it (just like shooting 38s out of .357) and she loved it. She thought it had about the same (maybe even less) recoil than the .22 semi she had just tried before. Good luck!
  22. Picked up some Hoppes Elite yesterday while picking up some ammo for my trip out to EFGA. Gave the Hoppes #9 to a buddy to use. Have to look into the Frog Lube.
  23. 1st & only time I ever shot an AK (about 20 years ago). Friend had it all tripped out (nice stock, scope, tripod, etc). I had never looked through a scope before so I got nice and close....pulled the trigger...BAM, thing kicked like a mule and the scope cut me right over my eyebrow. Only hurt a little....think my pride hurt more. Since getting into firearms on my own (past six months), only my wallet has been injured (thank God). Actually, not totally true. While trying to figure out which gun I I wanted I went to the range to rent a few guns. I wanted to rent an SR9 but it was rented so rented the SR40 and a Ruger SP101. Ran 50 rounds of .40 caliber, 50 rounds of .38s and 50 rounds of .375. Shot all that in about 45 minutes or so. Skin between my thumb and index finger was rubbed raw (I was probably limp wristing). RO asked how I liked the guns. Told him the sight on the Ruger was a bit hard to see and thought I would have shot a little better (think it was 3 inch barrel). He recommned next time I try the 6 inch S&W 357 Magnum (686 Plus). I thought, "When am I going to get up here again!?, and just rented it with another box of .38 and another box of .357. Litterally rubbed the skin off the webbing of my hand! And yes, it hurt.
