  1. i knows its almost as heavy as the GP100.. thats what i like most about it.. heh.. she didnt really have problem racking the slide with the Glock, but to be honest, the CZ would be more my gun when the time comes.. hers would be purchased later (although she may shoot it just to get a feel for it), but she may end up with a revolver when all said and done, she may decide its best for her.. oh, and she has actually taken a firearms class in the past (got her certification and everything), but that was probably 17 years ago, so im pretty sure she's forgotten most of it.. lol
  2. i have been doing a LOT of research! Been reading up a lot, and this place has been a wealth of knowledge.. I have a tendency to get really in depth with research when i find something that truly interests me. Im just sorry I didnt get interested in this until now..
  3. i agree. i know that i have learned many things on my own (such as cleaning a gun, different stances, etc.) but i know that real training is a good beginning step.. i will get some of that in the near future as well..
  4. New to the forum and new to firearms here. Just a little (or a lot) background.. I am very new to firearms. Very new, as in, I had never shot a gun (any gun, ever) until New Years Eve day about 3 weeks ago. Always been interested in it, just never really acted on it. With that said, we have had a revolver in our house since I have known my wife (it is hers). That's been approx. 14 years. She got her FPID back in 1995 (before I knew her) because she foolishly thought she would want to carry a loaded gun in her purse (back then). She obviously has never done so, as the S&W 640 .38 spl sits in my nightstand. She fired some revolvers when she was younger, and they were all bigger, heavier and longer guns (i.e. Colt 44 Python that one of her friends had back in the day). When she bought the 38, she found out that she didn't like it as it had too much felt recoil, so she has only ever shot it once (trying it out when she bought it). Not the smartest idea in the world, but she used to have strange views about guns back then. (and before anyone gets up in arms about me mentioning that we house the revolver in our nightstand, note that we do not have children nor do we ever have children in our house other than at the holidays, and then the gun is unloaded and moved out of sight/reach of children while they are around) We recently (well, a few months ago) decided that I should probably become comfortable with that gun since if anything happened in the house, it would invariably be me who has to deal with it (she's terrible in an emergency). We never got around to going to the range in the summer like we had planned, but on New years Eve, we figured we were both off, and lets just do it, and go to the range. We brought the 38 with us to the range, but she also thought that she would want to replace that gun with something a little heavier and with less felt recoil, so we decided to rent a couple different guns while we were there. We rented a Ruger GP100 .357 and also a Glock 9mm (19 I believe). So, we got a little bit of instruction from the RO on these particular guns, and he let us start firing. I let the wife go first because she wanted to shoot the 357 (we were using 38 ammo though). She found it to have less recoil, but it was also much heavier than she thought it was going to be. She actually didnt shoot too bad, but she has a tendency to pull the trigger instead of squeezing it. so she was a little bit off to the left on most of her shots. decent grouping, but off-center. Then came my turn. I was a bit nervous with my first shot since it was my first time. Once a took that first shot, an adrenaline rush came through me. I really enjoyed it, and it was actually fairly decent shot groupings. I fired a few loadings with the 357 and seemed to get better with each consecutive load. then it was time for the Glock. The wife was always scared of the casing ejection, so she never wanted a 9mm. However, we let her shoot that one first as well, and the ejections didnt bother her as much as she thought they would. Same issue with the aiming, but it was much lighter for her. She thought she would like something in between the weight of the 357 and the Glock.. (She refused to shoot the 38 spl though).. I then shot the Glock. It shot well enough, and I did pretty well with it, but I didnt like the hand/grip feel of it. Seemed to small to me. After that trip, I decided to go again last weekend. This time, I went without the wife (she had something else she had to do anyway). I didnt want to shoot the same gun I shot last time, so I decided to try the only other 9mm they had available to rent, a Sig 229. The Sig felt much better in my hands, and I shot that even better, but I dont know if thats because I was just more used to shooting or if it was the gun itself. I tried all sorts of distances (5, 7, 10, 15, 20 yards). I did quite well with the 5, 7 and 10 yards. Hit the middle of the target quite a bit.. Not as great when it was 15 or 20 yards, but I am learning and getting better. Have been looking at different styles and materials for 9mm's, and have unfortunately decided that when I get my FPID and P2P's, one of the guns we want to get is the CZ 75B Matte Stainless. I say unfortunately because they are just about impossible to find. Even in the Hi-Polished model. Tend to like that look rather than the all black, utilitarian look (just a personal preference). have also read from numerous places that the CZ is one of the most ergonomically great guns on the market. that appeals to me, but also to my wife. Its not as heavy as the 357 but not as light as the Glocks or even the Sigs. When the time comes (in about another month or so), I will start scouring the web and local shops to try to find one. If anyone has one, I would love to hear your thoughts on it.. We have also decided to get a shotgun. Since she has her FPID, she ordered one online (yeah, i know, but no one has them in stock). Got it from Woodbury Outfitters, and its a Maverick 88 Security (18.5 barrel). that is currently in process and we're waiting for it to be delivered to Shore Shot (using them for our FFL this time). Since she has never shot a shotgun, we plan to take that somewhere (does SS allow shotguns?) to have her train with it. (After she does a bunch of dry-fire training and learning all the parts to it well before she ever shoots it). So.. that's my brief history (or not-so-brief). I have learned a lot already on this site just from stalking around, finally decided it was time to get myself on here so I could ask questions that I might want to ask. If anyone read all that, i'll be impressed!
