  1. Thanks to the OP and original author. I have taken the liberty to edit the document. Please continue to fact check it and more eloquently compose the end statements. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ I have been listening and participating in the Gun debate ever since it started and decided to write this little article after encountering many people who do not understand the gun laws in the state of New Jersey. Most people I spoke with seemed to think that anybody could simply walk into a gun store in NJ and purchase a firearm! Some people understand that there is some sort of control governing that process but not sure of what it entails. Here is a step by step break down of the process every NJ resident has to follow in order to be eligible to purchase a firearm: 1-You must apply for a "Firearm ID card" which you will need every time you purchase a firearm. In order to do so you will need to obtain an application package from your local "Township or Police station" 2-The application contains multiple forms that all must be completed "but not signed" before being submitted. 3-Each applicant must fill the forms and agree to a background check of his/her MENTAL RECORDS. 4-Each applicant must be finger printed and his prints sent to the FBI for approval. 5-Each applicant must provide the names and addresses of two acquaintances that could vouch for his/her character "Both will be contacted by the police and asked to fill a questioner about the character of the applicant. 6-Each applicant must provide his/her work contacts and "usually" the police contacts his/her supervisor and inform them about the applicant's intentions to purchase a firearm and inquire about his/her character. 7-Once all forms had been filled; they need to be signed. The mental health background check consent.form must be signed in the presence of the detective accepting your application since it consents for overriding your HIPPA protection. 8-It, usually, takes anywhere between one month up to one year before you get a response back. 9-The Firearm ID card "Once issued" is valid only for purchasing "LONG" Firearms such as: rifles and shotguns as well as to purchase handgun caliber ammunition. A permit to purchase (P2P) is required for any handgun. 10-Each time you need to purchase a firearm from a gun store you need to fill another application at the store and they will contact the "NICS" (which stands for the National Instant Criminal Background Check System) and charge you $15 for the process and wait to be approved for the purchase. Basically going over the process once again! 11-When purchasing a handgun, a person must apply for a separate permit for each handgun "Going through the original process each time" 12-Each handgun permit is valid for only one hand gun purchase and valid for 90 days and could, only, be renewed for another 90 days at the discretion of the issuing authority. 13-In the State of NJ residents can purchase one handgun per month only unless they obtain a special permit from the authorities. 14-A handgun permit is made up of 4 copies and upon the purchase of a hand gun the seller is responsible to sending one copy to the issuing authority. The above is the process for purchasing firearms in the state in NJ. We are considered one of the strictest states in the country when it comes to Firearms. People that seek to impose more restrictions need to educate themselves firsthand before demanding even more regulations that basically are already in place. I find it very interesting that the majority of those who seek to impose bans on firearms do not own any guns or even had ever fired one. It would be as if I advocate the banning of Minivans even though I do not own one, never driven one and don't know much about them in the first place. I believe that we could work together for the protection of both innocent people and the second Amendment. However, we need to educate ourselves first and be reasonable at all times.
  2. Would this have any bearing on the conversation?
  3. No argument, but these politicians, if even in their offices, shut the door to all the noise. The people who are receiving these faxes, phone calls, and emails may well get annoyed and frustrated. Some may agree with us, but they are all paid staff, and paid for by our tax dollars. The politicians.... just another day. Does it cost them something? I think the majority are more concerned to hold the party line and to be reelected. I even sent my concerns to those that have publicly expressed their support for us.... just to keep them on their toes.
  4. I'm afraid to say that most of these politicians have their minds made up and have an agenda to follow. I, like you, have voiced my objections to the bills before the Assembly but I have my doubts that I have changed anything. Keep bombarding them I say, at lease we feel better. We will not change anything if we don't speak up.
  5. In stock now, 9MM and .40, won't last long.
  6. You probably already are aware of this but if you find what you want before the paperwork gets to you, hold/pay in advance/order the item and have it held for final purchase. It's getting harder to find a specific gun.... even a plastic one
  7. Sad truth in The United Socialist States of America :wild:
  8. EXCELLENT >>>> The Bill of Rights: Must be 18. Void where prohibited. Not available in MA, NJ, NY, CA, IL, DC. Restrictions apply.
  9. I borrowed your idea and after thanking the Chief for an excellent job with my FID, I expressed the concerns about A3772.... Thanks
  10. Howard got the jump on me but I have to tell you my story. The Franklin Borough Police Department (Sussex County) is awesome; A true exception to the horror stories that I keep reading. Only ten days to get this signed, sealed, and delivered. It was a pleasure from picking up the forms and on. Wendy who handled the intake paperwork is very pleasant… on the ball. The officer (Sergeant?) who handles the internal stuff obviously works hard and was polite and nice to talk with. The Chief runs a tight ship for sure. So yes, in spite of potential obstacles outside of your police department, 10-days can be done. I was shocked when I got the call since I was prepared for another horror story. Mastodon Ammo & Camo; great shop, great people. Joe is a character but great to work with. I will bring my business there... thinking now maybe a .22 pistol or perhaps a long gun of some sort, ammo you bet. FYI, if faced with waiting for your fingerprint appointment at a MorphoTrak site, look at scheduling in Irvington. I was able to call and get a slot that was a cancellation. I don’t recommend parking at the municipal lot…. Hint, adjacent parking for pharmacy… make sure you buy something
  11. If the apartment, range, or route of travel is anywhere near the Ex's house, fogetaboutit! I am not saying you have any intent but the legal system will work against you even if completely innocent.... just my take.
  12. To add to this, if the apartment is in NJ you can transport the handgun directly between the range and the apartment.
  13. Is it being implied that non-residents of the honored states will not be accepted?
  14. So, if you already have the Fl CCW, getting the NH permit is a cheap way to go ??
  15. The reference letter is interesting. I don't know if they are standardized but the one I saw was one page and mostly questions about the applicant. Even if you have known someone for years you may not really know all the answers. Presumably you, the applicant, would provide references that would vouch for you so it is curious why the reference letter takes on such high importance in the process.
  16. Then you certainly need to make sure you land enough rounds to get past that issue. Practice, practice, practice.
  17. It is amazing that a $50 book is available to help sort these questions out. Should this even be necessary but look at how much you can debate what should be a simple question. NJ and you, lees-then-perfect-together.
  18. There shouldn't be so many laws that you need to consider excuses for acting in, what many normal people would consider, a lawful manner.
  19. A wooden chest that you can lock, long enough for long guns. Anything from finished chest, foot locker, or coffin
  20. You are forgetting the thief using your gun against you. $300 for the Winchester safe seems a bit much for your purpose, but it's purpose built and weighs 147 pounds. You don't want your guns to be stolen and used to commit a crime either.
  21. I thought the SL8-2 was the rare one. I am going to mention it to a friend either case.
  22. You got that right. You must admit, there are some flat fields.... surrounded by mountains.
  23. In the northern portion of NJ there is terrain that, in many locations, would easily provide for a perfect backstop for shooting.
  24. This is a rather despicable display of Legislative one-ups-man-ship. First it started with NY State being first to beat the Federal government and now it's NJ looking to beat the Federal Government. NJ wants to be first at the most restrictive regulations.... bunch of A$$es.
