looking to buy my first rifle
345Sire replied to low resolution ian's topic in New Firearms Owners Corner
Hi, my name is 345 and I'm a gunpowder addict,,,,,,, I actually surprised myself last month when I counted what we had between my son and I. I wasn't kidding when I told Cory this could be too much fun. -
looking to buy my first rifle

That thing is beautiful! The wood grain, and the thumbhole grip, (sigh) Laminated, right? That gets it that look of heavy grain striations? Looks nicer than your wood floor! Are they now legal even if they hold more than 15? Like, 18? I know they changed some of the restriction on it, but,,,,,,,,??? -
I never buy the first model year of autos, I prefer to let others do the "beta testing". The bugs in new cars can be frustrating. My wife has gotten the latest and greatest of phones in the past, and I have listened to the complaints made regarding it. Of course, IT folks and millennials don't seem to have much trouble working out the kinks, and I don't know what bracket you consider yourself in. Me? I'm NOT the best example for new electronics like this,,,,,,,,I still use a flip phone. It's so old it has a dial. Can you hear me now?

Cory, You are getting good info from all the above, I just want to rePEAT what a couple mentioned, with a little emphasis. .22 lr, like the Ruger 10/22 above is probably among the best places to put your early firearm money. A decent one will last a long time, and a good one will last almost forever, letting you, and others in the family, learn the simple basics and safety with a minimum investment and lots of ammunition to practice with. And as said before, plenty of ways to dress them up to match your preferences. Good examples of used .22s do pop up in lots of places, and they hold decent value. You don't HAVE to buy new, but they are reasonable enough that you don't have to feel guilty if you do. Warning, you might find this stuff to be too much fun. Welcome to the forum, and welcome to the world of good clean fun and safe living. (mostly ) -

What Does Your Spouse/Partner Know About Your Guns?

Hilarious! Even my non-gun-lovin' wifey liked it. Too bad I can't run that fast! -
It didn't backfire, I knew you were talking tongue-in-cheek. I just kinda twisted it a bit. Sometimes I can't figure whether to try to use the emoticons or not. They help, sometimes, with expressing better ones' thoughts, but on the other hand, if people need them, maybe my choices of words isn't careful enough. It's not like my tone of voice or faclal expressions help much on here. Sometimes I'm torn between giving credit to the smart people here actually BEING smart, or risking being misunderstood. Too bad that can't be the biggest concern I, as a firearms supporter, have to deal with.

Don't count on those. Once the 2nd Amendment is gone, the 1st will be out the window right behind it. That means Freedom of the Press as well.

What Does Your Spouse/Partner Know About Your Guns?

I agree with your 1st comment and the 2nd one, but not the 3rd. My wife dislikes firearms. She's not violently opposed, but doesn't want to be involved. We are now going on 33 years this way, and it still is working out. Agree with the last comment for sure, so 3 outta 4 ain't bad. -

That's called self-preservation. -
" Judging by a quick search, most retailers it looks like. Most pmag30's are $7-10. Most pmag10's are $10+." That's the same story I found back in the spring, with some brands of the 30's even as low as $6, especially if bought in packs of 10. 15 round units were a bit hard to come by, and were even more expensive. This was a little before the ban was proposed, and I was a newbie to the AR world. (still am, truth be told. )

what about if someone gifts you a firearm? Seems the P2P is a permit to purchase, not take possession of. Yep, I split hairs here,,,,,,,,,,,,, It's been a while since I happened to look at the requirements. A buddy has something he no longer uses and was maybe going to pass it along. I gave this gent a sliding compound mitre saw a couple of years ago, sure didn't need to fill out any paperwork for that. Or the Paslode nail gun 8 years ago. (oooh, I said g-u-n !)

"Personally, hoping to go to a range and bring the new year in with a bang...(bang bang)" The wifey and I usually do that, but if we went to the range and did it,,,,,,,,,,well, you know,,,,,,, posting rules forbid me expounding here.

I would fervently hope that the lawyer at the other table would point out the simple absurdity of the whole "scary, dangerous" etc crap. Even uninformed people on the jury, if reasonable and reasonably intelligent, would see the folly in going along with such selective use of the phrases by the prosecutor. I know, letter of the law and all that,,,,,Brings me back to the posting a bit back about the other "N" word. nullification.

Even the dweebs in gov't know that "ability to accept" is more all encompassing.
-
I get it, really. It's just indicative of how bad the legislators here are that they keep pulling this B.S.
-
I won't tell the boogieman if you don't.

Please, don't go using 4 letter words in a family friendly forum.
