  1. If, and it's a big if, the officers actually did this, they need prison time and a lot of it.
  2. I own to the yellow line. The county has an easement to the edge of the pavement. I guess I can ride my bike back and forth in front of my house and I'm still legal. Who knew I could have 250 feet of America right in front of my house!
  3. This video was great info. Thanks. Interesting but I see two downsides. First, the guy doing the demo has his pants loose and hanging on his hips. I'm chunky enough that If my pants were that loose, I don't have enough hips to keep my pants up. Second, I like simple and as cool as this idea is, it's not simple. Actually, I've toyed with the idea of just sewing my right front pocket into the shape of a holster and rely on that to keep my firearm upright and within reach. Maybe I'll play seamstress this weekend and see how that works.
  4. Wait a second: Without a FID, it's legal to possess a firearm on your own property. With an FID, it's legal to possess a long arm on another person's property. It's illegal to menace, threaten, disturb the peace, etc with or without a gun. Just sitting with a gun should not be enough to charge you with any of these. Just because someone is uncomfortable with you doing something that is legal is not enough to charge you with something. That's as stupid as being charged for giving a waitress a poor tip or a dirty look.
  5. It's legal if you consent. You have the option to not do business there. It's almost a free country you know.
  6. I'm looking for a comfortable concealed carry holster for the bigger man. I've tried IWB holsters and they are uncomfortable. I think these holsters must be for skinny guys. I'm not a skinny guy. OWB holsters require me to always wear a shirt untucked and heavy guys with untucked shirts always look sloppy. You skinny guys can get away with it. A belly band seems hot, itchy, and too tight although I've never tried one so I'm only guessing. It looks like I'm limited to a pocket holster. I'm fine with pocket carry, in fact it's about as convenient as you can get. I just need to remember to put my keys in the other pocket. My problem is that I've tried a couple of pocket holsters and find drawing from one slow and difficult. The outer part of the holster that prevents printing is always in the way of drawing. It probably only takes a second to get a hold of the gun and get it out but that second seems like a long time as I fumble in my pocket. Does anybody make a pocket holster that is easy to draw from but still retains and positions the gun well? I'm going to experiment with some kydex and see what I can come up with but it would be easier if I didn't have to reinvent the wheel.
  7. Registration in NJ is voluntary and there is no reason to do so. If they push the issue and aren't backing down, the NJ State Police Firearms Investigation Unit in Trenton can clearly answer your questions. They will sometimes call a police chief to help them understand the law if there is an issue.
  8. I shoot on some wooded property I own that is not connected to my home. It is not my primary residence but is other land possessed by me. I'm not worried.
  9. We have a pro 2A democrat senator - Jeff VanDrew from South Jersey. He proposed the bill this year that would have reduced the crime for possession of a BB gun (currently BB guns are firearms in NJ with the same restrictions) and a bill that would have clearly defined what a reasonable diversion is while transporting a firearm. Currently, stopping to pee or going through the drive through could be a felony. VanDrew tried to fix both of these things so there is one good one. I always vote Republican, except for VanDrew. His fellow Democrat, Sen. President Steve Sweeney refused to let these bills be heard and instead pushed the .50 cal ban, FID/DL combination, no more on line ammo sales, no person to person transfers, and requirement to have a permit to purchase a handgun to buy ammo. These are the bills that Krispie Kreme is expected to sign so the Republicans aren't all on our side either.
  10. Yes, the 495 beltway takes you through MD and VA but not DC. If you have a multi-state CCW, I don't know a good route because MD is is not part of free America either and MD covers a lot of area east and west.
  11. Managing the growth of the economy used to be done by manipulating interest rates. Raise rates a tiny bit when the economy is growing too fast to prevent "bubbles" that eventually collapse and lower rates a tiny bit when the economy slows down. The goal is slow but steady growth. Slow and steady doesn't win elections so the FED has let things grow too fast for too long. The result: a big bubble collapse in 2008. Now, interest rates don't work any more. Once you hit 1/4% there's no where else to go. Now we use a new trick: Quantitative Easing. QE is just buying up investments to keep them off the market - mostly mortgage backed securities. Why do you think every American "deserves" a home and the government will provide the money and insurance to make sure they get one - whether they can afford one or not. That won't work for much longer and I don't know what they can do next.
  12. Either, the panic has proved that we'll pay the higher prices and the price will stay high (worked with Gas) or demand will be so low because everyone now owns 4 when they only needed 1 and it will be hard to give away guns and ammo. I'm holding onto my money hoping for scenario number 2.
  13. I went back and found the comment. I take it back. It looks like the comment was only a joke and I missed the joke.
  14. Official report and media coverage would report that three ringleaders of an illegal alcohol trafficking operation had managed to elude law enforcement for several months by masquerading as college students. Two of the three will killed during a shootout with ATF agents when the three tried to kill several federal agents with their vehicle. ATF officers acted in self defense. Charlottsville residents are safer tonight thanks to the efforts of federal officers. The surviving student is in custody and has been charged with 27 counts of....
  15. according to a Facebook post by Frank Fiamingo, president of NJ2AS, the ruling is expected in the next couple of weeks.
  16. The only thing unusual is that she wasn't prosecuted.
  17. Everyone, retired LEO or not has the right to carry according to the highest law in the nation. If you exercise that right in NJ and are not a retired LEO, they arrest you and put you in jail. Having an elite class of citizen (Retired LEO) that are able to exercise their rights while other citizens can not violates another part of our nations highest law, the Equal Protection Clause of the 14th Amendment.
  18. FFLs set their own prices and the free market decides what those prices are.
  19. Welcome. If the proposed restrictions concern you, checkout NJ2AS, the bulldog group that has done the most for NJ to try to stop these bad laws.
  20. Yup, locking down towns and neighborhoods is just good practice. I have wondered if we were fighting terrorists door to door in the middle east for just the same reason.
  21. The 22 as a home defense weapon has been debated here a lot. I'm firmly on the side of believing a 22 is adequate. I don't believe any "normal" handgun round is effective because of it's "knock down power" or muzzle energy. I have experience killing lots of different types of animals with lots of different types of guns and have never had one fall over or explode from a big enough bullet. I've had deer run after a 12 ga slug hit to the chest. Granted it was about 2 steps but it wasn't the overwhelming energy of tthe bullet that dropped them. With a .22, you can put half a dozen holes in a person in under 2 seconds. They may be small holes but they will stop an attacker. Hollow points won't penetrate very deep so I'd use regular old high velocity rounds. If I could have 2 guns, my home defense gun would be bigger than a .22 but if the cost of a second gun is a consideration, the cost of ammo is going to be higher than that second gun. 22 ammo is cheaper than 9mm, even now and in normal times, you can afford to shoot a 22 for hours.
  22. I know someone who was denied because they had attended court ordered counseling at 15 when their parents were fighting over custody. I don't know why it showed up on the background check. The local PD denied the application and told him he could appeal in court if he wanted. He didn't bother.
  23. If you think we should negotiate and meet the anti 2A people in the middle, support the NRA. If you think we should have input on how new anti gun laws will be written, join the ANJRPC If you believe that it's time to fight like our rights depend on it, join NJ2AS
  24. So are we taking legal action? Please tell me it wasn't an empty threat. If the NJ2AS announces they're raising funds to go forward with a challenge, I think a lot of fed up and angry members will open their wallets.
