  1. So are we taking legal action? Please tell me it wasn't an empty threat. If the NJ2AS announces they're raising funds to go forward with a challenge, I think a lot of fed up and angry members will open their wallets.
  2. We've seen them in Cumberland County. The bites itch and hurt more. We still have the smaller, friendlier mosquitoes we've always had but there are some of the bigger, tiger striped ones around.
  3. I'm considering making my own steel silhouette torso target - my rough sketch is below. I'm not sure how thick the steel should be or whether to use mild steel or something harder. Hard steel is brittle while mild steel is more ductile. Dents are okay as long as they don't become punctures. Harder steel is stronger and won't punch through as easily but will fatigue fail sooner with repeated shots and might crack just from being brittle. I also want it thick enough to handle what I'm shooting (.308, 9mm, .40, .45, .223, and it would be great it it could take 12ga slugs) but light enough to swing satisfyingly when I get a hit. My initial thoughts are mild steel 3/8" thick but at almost 40lbs, I doubt I'll get much of a satisfying swing when I hit it. Any thoughts or advice from those more experienced with shooting at metal?
  4. In the country, in the woods where no one can see - no harm no foul. If the cop saw it, he was not doing it where no one can see it. In LAC, I'd personally just drive by if I was the officer because I've peed in the wood plenty of times. But PK90's right. For the next party, rent a port-a-pot.
  5. MyFico.com "estimates" your fico score. You can not request your own fico score - the formula and the number is a secret. You are entitled to one free report each year from the big three credit reporting agencies - TransUnion, Equifax, and Experian. go to those companies websites and you will find the info on how to request these. All other sites offering these services are some sort of scam. Every credit card, credit account, or other credit activity you were involved in for the last 7 years will be on these credit reports including every time your credit info was requested by someone. Some things stay on your report for 10 years. I have my credit accounts "locked down" so that no one can see my credit report without my permission each time. I think I paid $10-$20 for three years of this service with two of the companies and the third offered it for free. I could be way off on the cost. I figure if no one can every check my credit, no one can ever open an account in my name. I've never requested my FICO score but I'm sure it's ridiculously low since my credit report always shows no activity because we're a cash only family. If I can't afford it, I do without it. If I want it, I save for it.
  6. One in Vineland / Millville boarder is disappointing. Went once with the family, never again. Cafeteria food in a cafeteria setting at diner prices. If you're a big fan of kraft macaroni and cheese and canned string beans - go for it. It seems busy so somebody must like it.
  7. I received a call to be a reference for a friend just before my friend received the call to be my reference. This was a month after I submitted. While I was answering the questions, I asked about the status of my permit. The Trooper either pulled me up in his computer or went to get a log book but he was able to give me the date that the permit was sent to "Trenton" and it was 2 weeks prior to the reference call being done and just a few days after I had submitted. He also already had my mental history check back by that point - I don't know where that comes from. I don't know if he was telling me the truth but every month I called and he pulled up the same info and it was always the same. It seems like there are two parts to the approval if you you NJSP. The local barracks do the background checks and the criminal and mental history checks are done somewhere else. The hold up seemed to be the criminal background check. The references happened about a month after I submitted and the mental history was back within 30 days of my application date. The criminal check in "Trenton" took another 3 months.
  8. 1. Application type (FID/permit w/ existing FID). Change of Address on FID and 2 P2Ps 2. Police Department where you applied. NJSP Bridgeton 3. Name of the person you dealt with at the PD. TPR Erickson - note: I called monthly and he always took the time to look up my application and let me know where it was in the process. At the end, it had been issued by "Trenton" several days earlier but had not gotten to the local station so he made phone calls and was able to get it sent down the next day. 4. Time taken to issue FID and/or permit. 4 months and 1 week. Feb 14th - June 21 5. Documents required by the PD (aside from the standard application and the mental health release form). One extra page with references and employment info consolidated on one sheet to make it quicker for the troopers to do reference checks. 6. Notes - anything pertaining to the application process (unforeseen difficulties, chief of police calling your home, you hiring an attorney, etc). References contacted by phone a month after submitting, took an additional 3 months for "Trenton" to do whatever Trenton does. The Troopers at local station were always helpful and understanding but 4 months is still way too long when so many local PDs can do it within the statutory 30 days.
  9. Utah won't issue a permit to anyone from a state that recognizes Utah's permit. Since NJ won't recognize any ccw, NJ residents can get a Utah.
  10. #6 criminals have exempted themselves from the above 5 most important firearm laws.
  11. Keep in mind that in places where open carry is legal, it can draw unwanted attention. Lots of people carry. Almost nobody open carries.
  12. Just FID needed for handgun ammo. No drivers license. FID and matching DL needed for guns.
  13. Slip out the back door and slip the gun through the door handles like a barn door latch.
  14. My wife has no interest in guns but doesn't care if I have them. She has grudgingly shot a few times - I want her to know how to use it if she has to. If she doesn't decide it's the hobby for her - still great that she's willing to go along with what makes you happy. Make sure she knows you appreciate her sacrifice.
  15. My go to shotgun has a 1958 date code. I have no idea how many rounds it's fired but hundreds, maybe a thousand, maybe more. 50 years is young in gun years.
  16. I keep a set of left hand twist bits just for this. In fact, I order them 6 at a time in each size. For small screws, drilling a hole in the screw head with a left hand twist bit will often grab the screw and back it out. If it doesn't work, an eazy-out in the hole I just drilled probably will work. I've used the grabbit tools and they work but the cost is high and they only seem to last a few uses before they don't bite well anymore.
  17. I would have a hard time hitting a turkey in the head at 100 yds without some sort of bench rest. Most .22s are targeted in at 50 yds and have about a 4" drop at 100 yds. A cross wind of 5mph causes almost 3" of drift. A little wind, a little misjudge of the distance and even if you're a great shot, you've just wounded the bird instead of killed it.
  18. Maybe they plan to go light on the SLEO because he's part of "the club" and had to go easy on the other party too make the system appear to be fair and balanced.
  19. Ich habe nur Befehle befolgt http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nuremberg_Principles#Principle_IV
  20. the "have you ever been denied" box is on the NJ application for FID card and P2P.
  21. I ordered some 22lr a few weeks ago. The price on the ammo wasnt' bad but the 1 box per order kills you when you have to add as much shipping as the ammo cost. Arrived intact and within a few days. I'd order again when the 1 box per order limit is lifted.
  22. Lots of places will do that. I've done it recently, only because the particular gun I was looking for was hard to find. When I found it, I paid for the gun in full and picked it up when my permits came. In normal times I don't like having my money in someone else' pocket so I won't bother to pay until I can pick up the gun.
  23. No secrets here. That doesn't mean she wants to know or cares what I'm buying but there are no secrets. I usually tell her more than she really wants to know. guns make me happy and she likes me to be happy. She might roll her eyes but she really doesn't mind.
  24. Just the idea that a court would apply intermediate scrutiny to a constitutional right is not a good sign. Intermediate scrutiny requires that the state demonstrate that the current law furthers an important interest of the state. By deciding to use intermediate scrutiny the court is saying that it's okay to violate a right, as long as doing so furthers the states interests. That alone is a big, big loss no matter what decision is finally made.
