Do you know what met the standard of "justifiable need?"

I've carried a .22 for self defense (not in NJ of course). It's convenient and light weight. I can stick it in my pants pocket and barely notice that it's there (except that I need to remember to put my keys in the other pocket. I've killed enough animals with a .22 that I know it will do the job if needed. I can put 7 rounds in a small circle with my .22 pistol in under 2 seconds. I can't get a larger gun back on target that fast. If I actually believed that today was the day I'd get into a gun fight, I'd carry something bigger. I'd also wear body armor and carry a backup gun, and probably bring friends. I don't think today is the day I'll get a flat tire so I only carry a lug wrench and leave my impact wrench at home. My lug wrench has gotten me home a couple of times. A .380 or 9mm is definitely a more effective self defense gun when you need it and I've carried a .380 too. But a .22 pocket gun is so much more convenient and I like convenient.

A small heater (like the goldenrod) will keep the guns just a few degrees warmer than the outside air. If the basement becomes damp, the humidity will condense on cooler surfaces but not on the warmer guns and safe. We have a large cabinet at work where we keep welding rod. Welding rod will absorb humidity and will be ruined. We have a 40 watt light bulb in the bottom of the cabinet that putts out enough heat to keep the rod dry.

Lets just give Newark and Camden to NYC. They can have a transit highway that connects the three just like they did with West Berlin stuck in East Germany after WW2.

I thought Camden and AC were north Jersey. Can we just annex "pretty much Alabama" and make that a new state called "Free Jersey"?

Every time a cashier checks one of my 20's with a counterfeit money detecting pen, I always ask if they've ever gotten any fake bills. Most say that they or someone who works there has. 20 years ago, nobody had seen these pens. Home printers weren't good enough. Now you can't stop the casual counterfeiter. It will be interesting when you can't stop the causal firearm manufacturer. Imagine what will happen once they perfect replicators.

This needs a congressional investigation. I'm sure it goes above the "low level" employees the IRS is blaming this on. I'm hoping for a whistle blower to show up.

Holding the gun upside down? Using the wrong hand? Standing on your head? Come on...fes'up.

I just don't see why this is scary to anyone. They've been building "zip" guns since bullets were invented. Half of us on this forum could build a pretty nice working shotgun in a day in our garages. We could build a working bolt action in a couple of days. We could do the same out of plastic parts without a 3d printer. These plans being available changes nothing.

big pellets for big things. little pellets for little things. Slugs for big things if you can aim well. Deer, 00, or 000 buck shot or slugs. Rabbits and squirrels - #6 or #8 shot. Home defense - I would go with a lot of little pellets like #8 shot. It won't penetrate as deeply but at close range, it will all hit within a very small circle (a few inches at the most) and make an impressive wound that would change my mind if I was an intruder. The smaller pellets are also less likely to penetrate walls and other things to hurt people you didn't mean to hurt. But, there is no wrong answer - try a few different types and see what each does.

Two guys named Muller and Piszczatoski were denied a ccw in NJ because they did not have justifiable need according to the judge. They went to court and lost. They appealed to the 3rd circuit court of appeals claiming that NJ's restrictive laws violated their 2nd amendment rights. The case was heard several months ago, maybe over a year ago but a decision has not been made yet. One part of NJ's defense was that it does not violate anyone's 2nd amendment rights, in fact, it approves 95% (it may have been 94%) of ccw applications that are submitted. The plaintiffs provided supplemental evidence after the case was heard that showed the number of permits issued. I can't find it now but I think it was in the 600 - 800 permits per year range that put NJ around .000001% of NJ residents compared to as much as 8% in neighboring states. Two of the judges apparently have an anti -2A history and the third seemed to be pro2A but who knows. If it fails in the fed. circuit court, the next stop would be the US Supreme Court if they will hear it.

If we do loose in the third circuit court, we may be heard by the supreme court. NJ told the 3rd circuit that they approve 95% of CCW applicants. They did not mention that they have such strict restrictions that nobody every applies. I'm not sure what the plan is either but I'd apply to demonstrate to the supreme court that NJ does not issue to 95% of applicants.

I grew up on a farm, have had several different classes of pesticide licenses (not school classes, types of licenses), and have sprayed professionally. I don't know of any pesticide that is selective only to woody plants. There are lots of chemicals that could damage your tree - either by being sprayed directly on the tree foliage or on the ground over the root zone but every one I know of would also leave dead grass and dead everything else. There are a couple that are selective to protect grass but they need to be sprayed on the foliage and I can't see someone without high pressure equipment spraying to the top of a 60' tree. If he could reach the top, wind drift would kill everything within half a block on a still day. I suspect something other than your neighbor is killing your tree.

I agree that a loaded mag is not a loaded firearm the part with the serial number is the firearm. However, if the police, prosecutor, and jury don't agree with me your SOL. I'll keep my mags unloaded while transporting.

I emailed the author just to say "good job". Got a reply that he's received dozens of positive emails and only two negative. As he said in his email. "Maybe that's telling."

Being at the hearings was not wasted energy. Looking at these bills, they thought they had come up with some smoke and mirror tricks. The were trying to look tough on guns to the anti's while not pissing us off too much. I think the bills stink but they were carefully written to minimize the damage to us. The .50 cal ban effects only a handful of gun owners. Moving the FID to the drivers license accomplishes nothing but really doesn't hurt anyone either. Stopping internet ammo sales just makes us shop local which isn't a bad idea anyway. Don't misunderstand - I don't like any of these bills but in Senator Sweeney's mind, these were safe bills. He gets a photo-op with the Newtown families, gets air-time for being tough on gun violence and we weren't really supposed to care about these little, insignificant changes to the law. But we ruined the plan. 300 or more of us showed up and argued. I don't have a .50 BMG and I've never ordered ammo online. so, I wasn't supposed to care about any of this and I was supposed to just stay home. But I didn't stay home. I'm sure we surprised them all. Now they know that somebody really does care. Sweeney especially needs to play it safe with gun owners. He is from my neck of the woods. If you've read any of my posts, you know I shoot in my back yard and so does everyone else here. Everyone I know owns guns, hunts, and target shoots. On a nice day, I hear gunfire in the distance constantly. He needs the pro-gun vote more than any other Senator in NJ and his voters showed up to yell at him when he thought he had come up with bills that were week enough to be safe. We ruined his plans. It was important that we showed up. I'm sure he left that meeting wondering if he had made a mistake. He did and he certainly realizes that now.

But most NJ residents believe that government is the solution to all problems. You've made the right move getting out. NJ is not going to turn to our way of thinking.

Where can I find the final votes for Tuesday? I know that all but 1 bill passed the committee but I'm not sure if everyone on the committee voted yes. I'm writing my letters and I want to accuse or thank everyone appropriately. I don't suppose I get to thank anyone do I?

I'm not sure what type of government Linden has but find out who oversees the police department and call them. Maybe a city commissioner, maybe the mayor. Contact your state senators and assemblymen and ask for their help. Usually, their staff will make phone calls to grease the wheels. Make these contacts by phone, that gets more of a response. If that doesn't work, have a lawyer call the mayor.

I've got the NRA emblem on my truck. All I ever get is encouraging looks from the thousands of other drivers with NRA stickers, gun club decals, gun brand logos, and stickers from various sportsman's clubs. The only opposition I ever get is by people who think the NRA isn't 2A friendly enough. Hard to believe we live in the same state.

All I saw today was room 4 where the hearings were held. I got there around 10:00 and the room was already packed. I managed to get a folding chair in the back. I estimate about 180 - 200 people total in the hearing room and 85% were pro 2A. Great 2A speakers. The crowd wasn't overly disruptive but kept everyone honest. Every time a Senator or anti-2A speaker told something that wasn't true or got the current law wrong, there was a murmur and the information was quickly corrected by the crowd. One standing ovation and several polite but enthusiastic rounds of clapping. Overall, a well behaved group for the passion that was in the room. I heard rumors of people dressed for combat but didn't see any in the hearing room. Lots of NRA, NJ2AS, Molan Labe, and military patches, hats, and jackets, in the room. I didn't dress or bring anything to identify me as pro-2A and had to introduce myself to several people as I could tell I was being eyed with suspicion. As I had expected, the committee made up their minds before the hearing and started with brief statements about why these bills were good for NJ. Ultimately we did not convince them but our being there was important. They know we're paying attention. You can measure passion on each side by who bothered to show up today. That hearing room was a fair representation of NJ and they now know that those that are passionate about 2A rights outnumber the anti-2A crowd in NJ by a factor of at least 5 to 1. Thursday will be just as important. I know there was a second overflow room with CCTV to watch the hearings and there was a crowd outside before the hearings. Does anybody have a rough idea of the total number in attendance?
