  1. His two ex wives reportedly cost him $35 million or so. And the addictions weren't cheap, either.
  2. It's the 100th anniversary of the outbreak of WWI and the Washington Post STILL couldn't come up with the M1910 Browning used to assassinate Archduke Ferdinand? Or did they have to leave out that and Oswald's Mannlicher Carcano, just to be sure they had space to wring their hands over the M-4 Lanza stole?
  3. If the meet up hasn't happened yet, I'd like to try and attend. I've got assorted toys and ammo. And I'm a member at Somerset.
  4. I don't get the joke. No one messes around with the wife of a guy who owns a .45. Now, if all he owns is a 9 mm, and she's really hot, the result may be different.
  5. I'm not arguing that the courts in NJ won't consider them firearms, as that is how the law here is written, and we must remain cognizant of that. But...the anti gunners work hard to change commonly used terms to cast guns in the most negative light they can. And they're being successful...it's one of the ways they sway the non-gun owning public. So...I will NOT refer to an air gun as a 'firearm', and if the term gets misused in a conversation in which I'm taking part, I'll explain the difference. I will NOT refer to every semiautomatic as an 'assault weapon' or an 'automatic', and if the term gets misused in a conversation in which I'm taking part, I'll explain the difference. I will NOT refer to a standard 30 round AR mag as 'high capacity', and if the term gets misused in a conversation in which I'm taking part, I'll explain the difference. I will NOT refer to any bolt action rifle as a 'sniper rifle', and if the term gets misused in a conversation in which I'm taking part, I'll explain the difference. It's my little effort to educate the non-gun owning public, one voter at a time.
  6. Having Amazon ship to you is a transfer. It's fine in most states, as they realize an air gun isn't a firearm. In NJ, not so much. The "ship it to yourself" option requires that you be the owner on both ends of the transaction. You are present when you ship, and are present when you receive. Only then is it not a transfer.
  7. I don't doubt that it's low margin...but it's a gateway drug. They need to keep it in the distribution channels until newbies get hooked on the harder stuff. Centerfire is where the profits are. :-)
  8. While the same rules might supply, let's not call them firearms. Yes, NJ law misuses the term, but we shouldn't.
  9. I'm very glad to see it is as healthy as it is, but I agree that without more ranges hosting events, there is little point to (or chance of) growing the membership much more. I loved shooting ipsc, but stopped almost 20 years ago because there were far too many shooters for the available ranges. I just couldn't deal with investing 8-10 hours a day to shoot for two minutes aggregate time.
  10. I understand what you mean. But the factory sight was pretty bad. Not adjustable for windage , elevation was adjusted by a little lever that moved the rear blade up and down but at a changing angle... And when it shot loose the rear blade was free to flop around. It was also possible to "brick" the gun if you screwed up the disassembly, rendering it almost impossible to reassemble Mind you, I really like high standards. But there were some quirks
  11. I don't care if he met with them or not, as long as he vetoed the legislation.
  12. True, and you can shoot same day you attend the membership meeting...so if you do take a whole day off, plan to stay at the range and take advantage of what it offers.
  13. Scored! It's been getting easy to find Winchester primers, but these were the first CCI and Federal I've seen in awhile.
  14. I've been diving for decades; mostly NJ/NJ wrecks. I do like diving shark river inlet--night dives mostly--lots of fascinating critters come out. Really an impressive amount of sea life there...but I think I've only ever seen a single lobster in the inlet. They're mostly on the offshore wrecks. And NJ is famous for it's shipwrecks. There is an astonishing amount of history out there.
  15. As with any other defensive firearm, if you think you might have to use it, you need to become proficient. Trying it once isn't the way to do that. I recommend a number of short-duration range sessions. Don't shoot to the point where you develop a massive flinch, but put enough rounds downrange to be comfortable and accurate with the gun.
  16. No more paycheck does give one a certain latitude to say what one wants. Not sure whether or not they'll view that as a blessing in disguise.
  17. I agree, nj is bad... Staying in PA and not transporting into NJ would be better. But is there any reason why deerslayers suggestion to drive directly to The RTSP range and use a storage locker wouldn't work? At the end of the visit , pick up at RTSP and leave the state? Shortest route, no stops, etc.
  18. It was a lot of fun. I shot 7 events, so it was a great excuse to shoot guns that otherwise don't get shot much. I had a near- perfect score in the gangsta event --never would have predicted that--and still finished second. The sharks Bob mentioned can shoot just fine sideways.. The Dirty Harry trophy will occupy a place of honor on my mantle, at least until my wife notices it and moves it.... Probably later today Thanks to Stan and the others for running the match!!
  19. I should be able to make it. Sounds like fun...I can enter half-a-dozen events. I think I'll choose Thomas Magnum as my costume choice, since I've already got a Hawaiian shirt and a mustache.
  20. Very cool. Princeton runs a good operation, from what I've heard. If you pursue the the license, finding a nonprofit flying club (I belong to one) is a great way to hold down costs. That 40 hour FFA minimum is rarely achieved-average time to license is closer to 70 hours. Pm me if you want to chat further, though I'll be online only sporadically for the next week.
  21. Here is some unsolicited advice I offered in another thread (which also contains some other opinions on the subject). http://njgunforums.com/forum/index.php/topic/57708-first-hangun-advice/?p=739000
  22. I was surprised at how many more gun purchases it led to...
