  1. is CCI Standard Velocity 40 grain 1070 FPS LRN good ammo for a Ruger Mark III Target? is it great? just good? i don't know a lot about rimfire ammo, and i'm picking up my ruger next week i found and bought 2 boxes of the above ammo today because its all i know about... but would love to learn more about what is better / ok / bad for my new gun thanks for your time guys
  2. thanks for the input guys... ended up going with the ruger mark iii target.. black with the wood-like grips rented one and liked it and they actually had it in stock... have to wait another week or so to pick it up with the 30 day rule
  3. I'm going to be in the market for a .22 pistol, primary use basic target shooting/range I like the looks of the S&W 22A, fits my hand good, and I shot it once as a rental, and my other 2 guns are S&W, so I was leaning towards the 22A... but I've read some really negative reviews about the 22A having a lot of 'failure to fire' and 'failure to eject' and other reliability problems. I did experience this problem with the rental at the range but they blamed it on the gun being really old/used and not being clean... they swapped it out with a TINY Walther for the rest of my hour at the range, which I had the same exact problems with unfortunately. I've also read some articles saying that ALL .22 pistols are susceptible to that, and the they are very picky on the type of ammo used. I'm a fairly new shooter and could use advice on this... I just want something I can actually use and not have to fiddle with every time I use it... and with the lack of availability of ammo now, its hard to be picky.. just have to use what you can find pretty much it seems. Are there any other guns similar to the 22A that are proven to be more reliable in the same price range? (I see 22A's on gunbroker for $280 to $320) Also how big a difference is the feeling between a 5.5" barrel and 7" in the 22A? I used the 5.5" and was fairly accurate (when it fired).
  4. I was on the phone with S&W yesterday.. and they just can't keep up with demand... I know this isn't the item you are looking for, but S&W is producing the M&P 9mm 15 round mag still, just a 3 month backorder... I went ahead and ordered a few and will just deal with the wait.. don't even see any on gunbroker now... I don't have my M&P9 yet but hopefully will find one of those somewhere by the time the magazines arrive... its like a part-time job trying to find stuff right now!
  5. ok thanks... i will contact you once i actually own something... hopefully only another few weeks based on what i've heard about my PD!
  6. How does a person qualify with a larger caliber? I'm a 'noob' looking to purchase a 9mm also a .38/.357 S&W revolver I live in the next town over so joining here would probably be great for me... do I have to own a .22 first though to shoot here?
  7. Hi gang... I joined recently here and am waiting on my FID and handgun permits. Planning to get 1 semi-auto pistol (probably M&P 9) and 1 revolver (probably S&W 686) once the paperwork comes back... looking forward to getting into shooting, had a few lessons already.
  8. thank you everyone for the answers.. yes connie has been very helpful and seems to be pro-gun and pro-get-it-done
  9. I'm not sure if i posted my question in the correct place... also posted this in NJ gun laws... Good evening... Looking to be a new gun owner, I'm a "forum noob" here... I've been taking some lessons out at the Heritage Guild in Easton so that I'm prepared to be a gun owner whenever I get my ID/permits back from the PD.. Anyway... I live in Woodbridge.. Last week of January I submitted the standard application STS 033 The lady at PD took my drivers license and used it to fill out the Mental Health form herself I paid $5 for the ID and $2 each for the handgun permits, cash, got a receipt.. was told they average about 4 to 6 weeks to get the card & permits once the fingerprints are done... could that be true? Was given the form & info for fingerprinting for Morpho track... had to wait nearly 2 weeks for an appointment i could actually get to on time, South Plainfield... setup appointment and paid $57.50 online PD and Morpho told me I do nothing else... that PD gets the fingerprints back from Morpho somehow... so Now i'm just waiting... BUT at my last lesson in Easton, the instructor told me I was supposed to pay $18 by money order for the background check??? he was shocked that I didn't do this and that no one told me this??? is he wrong??? or is woodbridge PD intentionally not telling people about this to delay things??? I'm a 'details guy' and would definately remember if i was told/asked to get an $18 money order, it was never mentioned verbally or on any written document i have please advise on this $18 money order issue?? is it somehow covered by the $57 morphotrack payment??
