  1. At how many rounds of .22 does that feeling kick-in?
  2. And......its gone (again) EDIT: It shows "Sold Out", but ordering via Frank's link (above) allows the order to go thru. Added 10 boxes of Rio 12 Gauge 00 Buck on sale @ $2.79 a box http://www.cabelas.com/product/Shooting/Ammunition/Shotgun-Ammunition%7C/pc/104792580/c/104691780/sc/104567580/Rio-Buckshot-Ammunition/706902.uts?destination=%2Fcatalog%2Fbrowse%2Fshotgun-ammunition%2F_%2FN-1100191%2B10000047%2B4294751476%2B4294751475%2FNe-890%2FNs-CATEGORY_SEQ_104567580%3FWTz_l%3DSBC%253Bcat104792580%253Bcat104691780%26WTz_srn%3DBy%2BShot%2BSize%26WTz_st%3DGuidedNav%26WTz_stype%3DGNU&WTz_l=SBC%3Bcat104792580%3Bcat104691780%3Bcat104567580
  3. It happened to me years ago, with a brand-new .22 pistol that fired out of battery...the .22 round did not completely chamber (part was hanging out of the barrel). I didn't notice and squeezed the trigger....it wasn't supposed to, but the gun fired it, anyway. As would be expected, the catridge ruptured and the gasses went downward into the magazine well. Broke both of the grips and made a pretty mess of the slide/breechface. I was left with a pretty good stinging in my hand. If I remember right, it was a Lorcin, and was a giveaway/premium offered for a year's membership at an indoor range (now closed) in Pennsauken. EDIT - the range replaced it with another cheepie - a .25 Raven
  4. FID for pistol ammo - not new
  5. I think you're right SOTA.....if you're in the gunseller business, you really do need to educate your customers...all of them. And there are many that try valiantly to do just that. But I really do think the shops who want you to "show your FID card" are using it as a sales tactic. Or CYA
  6. I always thought it was more of a sales tactic. If you're looking at any firearm, and you don't know what a card is....you're a lookey-loo without a clue, and its going to be a discussion, not a sale. If you're looking at any firearm, and you DO have a card, but you don't have it with you....you're still a lookey-loo kicking it around, but at least you have a clue about how things are in NJ. If you're looking at a long gun and you HAVE your card....we're talking prices. If you're looking at a pistol and you HAVE your PTP...we're talking prices.
  7. Yup - kinda like potato chips....you cant have just one... Get this man a nice 12 Gauge pump!
  8. REAL nice blackpowder shooting! Now I am resuming my search for a left hand 12 gauge T/C New Englander barrel!
  9. Got lucky late yesterday afternoon....a brick of the blazers and a stick of CCI are on their way...even better with 11 dollars in cabelas cash thrown in the mix
  10. Hey! We never said anything of the sort....we said SIX FOR SURE! Reloading was another matter
  11. Yes - completely possible, and very common...though needing a hammer and a punch is a little extreme. The .357 cartridge, being a tenth of an inch longer than the .38 special cartridge, is extending into the area in the chamber that has been fouled by shooting the 100 or so .38 rounds. Due to the pressure created when fired, the brass cartridge case expands within the chamber, gripping the sides and helping to hold the cartridge in the chamber. When the pressure drops, the brass 'springs back' a little, allowing the extractor to remove the spent cartridge from the smooth, polished chamber. The problem is that you've deposited a good bit of fouling inside that chamber by shooting the 100 .38 specials. So, instead of smooth polished chamber, there's a ring of grit at the mouth of the .357 case (which is a tenth of an inch longer than the .38) holding the spent .357 cartridge in the chamber. Multiply this times six (all the other rounds in the cylinder) and it can be difficult popping them all out of the cylinder. Usually a good smack on the ejector rod with your palm is enough to get them out, but I guess yours must have been an extreme case.
  12. I saw that up on Facebook.....the thing is gorgeous.... my problem is I would want to shoot it!
  13. Actually, the M&P Sportie surprised me with how well it does what it does. In order to amass brass (for reloading), I have been using the inexpensive PMC .223 "bronze" with the 55 grain projectiles. I've found that 100 yards is no challenge for this combination...
  14. They had both the PA model-$556, and the NJ compliant - $575 I think
  15. I have tried to keep the ammo choices under control. For example, I tried to stick to 12 gauge...even traded-off that NICE 20 gauge B-Model Fox I had...but then there was that nice .410. I tried to keep to .357 and .45, but then along came some different .32's. A 30-06 rifle arrived early - hey, its the yardstick everyone uses.....oughta have one...but then those SKSs were SO cheap way back when...and later, I traded-off the .303 brits, but along came the Mosin Nagants...they are SO cheap, to own and to shoot...and the AR's - they really are fun guns And you gotta have a .22.....or several...
  16. My, how things have changed...when I took the class, you had to bring your own shotgun (tho they could always "find" one if you couldn't). They used to shoot some clays, take us for a walk in the woods, simulate a deer drive, and did at least one "safety check" for the class (with loaded gun-pointed up in the air -- a VERY good reminder to check your safety!).
  17. The 'going rate' used to be a case of beer.......
  18. Probably true....with the 9th circuit decision in Peruta and if SCOTUS does take-up Drake, forget the 10 round restriction; the 15 round nonsense is in jeopardy.
  19. If I was treated like that, I would have demanded a refund, left, and never returned. But now you've got me curious, 555R, if you haven't been there in awhile, and they treated you like dirt the last time you were there, why do you list Range 14 along with Brick Armory as your "home range"?
  20. Or, make it simpler; buy a S&W M&P 15 Sport -- you can get a New Jersey version, ready to go, for way less than your current budget. And do your best to stop grinning.
  21. I'm not so foolish as to believe a bunch of democrats actually listened to the people, rather than their handlers. I DO believe that the only purpose the Dems had with this 10-round-circus is to try to embarrass the current front-runner for the Republican ticket in 2016-Christie. I don't think it was working; for several reasons. Christie's message has been that he wants to work WITH the Dems, and this is the Dems pushing him away...not a position they want to be in. Buying-back all those 15 round mags was a stupid statement - it will break the state....flushing much-needed cash on meaningless legislation. And Christie already got to say at one of his town halls that "someone has to be the adult here"...quite a sound bite. I really wonder if Sweeney, Norcross, and Greenwald finally realized they were playing into the Republican hand...
