    Ham radio

    1. Read the whole thread - this question was covered. The short answer - depends what you want to do - short antenna = VHF/UHF = "line of sight-20-30 miles tops, though repeaters increase this. Long antenna = HF = worldwide bands. See http://www.arrl.org/getting-licensed 2. A "good" radio depends what you want to do with it. VHF/UHF radios are different from HF radios, tho there are some that cover both frequency bands. Handheld radios are extremely limited in what you can do with 'em. The 'big three' in amateur radio are Icom/Yeasu/Kenwood. 3. Check http://www.arrl.org/find-an-amateur-radio-license-class there is one listed in Tabernacle NJ (Burlington County) in April. EDIT - fixed links
  2. not sure what the B4M is... EDIT just looked - there are three different tins of 440 rounds - code WX2-206980 for $97.84 a tin code WX2-165115 for $94.99 a tin code B4M-206980 for $81.69 a tin i bought the WX2-165115 - they are telling me its not the same as the 206980 (which is BS). I am tempted to refuse the delivery
  3. They didn't for me...I'm going to send them a nasty gram
  4. Wow..... First, congrats on the new job. Second, my wife of almost 28 years is from CT, we go up there several times a year, and have never had any of the problems described above. Think of it like someone describing Newark, Patterson, or Camden and thinking they are NJ! She grew up in Meriden...on an acre carved-out of her grandfathers dairy farm, living on a road named after her family. Yes, the city's suck. Same here. Get out of the city and its a beautiful state. Yes it's expensive...so is NJ. They just get you in different ways. You'll notice the cars on the road appear older...well, they are. That's because CT has a personal property tax on your vehicle. You might have to commute a little bit, but there are some beautiful areas to live. You will also find that they have more in common with the New England Yankee traditions than you see here....mind your business, suck it up, stiff upper lip, make it do, etc, than you find in NJ. The mass civil disobedience they are seeing right now with their knee-jerk reaction to Sandy Hook is a perfect example, and of no surprise to me....they're NOT going to put up with it, and we will see significant change in November. And yes, CCW is available, unlike here...
  5. Magazines, newspaper circulars, etc. They are in the North American Hunting club's magazine monthly, as well as in Reader's Digest. they also occasionally advertise in the NRA's Rifleman magazine, Somehow I got on their mailing list, and now I get one mailed to me about every six weeks.
  6. At 13:19 -- No - 91.22% (1859) Yes - 8.5% (175) I Dont Know 0% (4) Makes you wonder who the 4 votes for "I Dont Know" were...
  7. About 4" in the heart of South Jersey...halfway between Philly and Atlantic City
  8. Sources for: Lead - old car batteries; drain them. rinse them out, open em up Powder - make it black: saltpeter, charcoal, and sulphur Primer - take the used ones apart and use match heads, kids toy caps, etc. as the ignition source.
  9. Which grip frame - round or square - will also make a bit of a difference. With two barrels; a 2.5" and a 6"; with the 6" currently mounted, makes me think its a round grip frame, which makes it a bit strange (2.5" bbl came with round butt; 4&6" bbl were square butts).
  10. +1 - an old, old gym bag/book bag, with a plain zipper top and web handles. doesn't look like anything, cost almost nothing, and doesn't scream "Tactical!"
  11. found the article on the Rifleman's web page: http://www.americanrifleman.org/articles/a-bullseye-view-of-remingtons-r1-pistols
  12. American Rifleman mag did a review on three different varieties of the R1 back in may or june last year (2013). They liked them, and found all three to be very accurate.
  13. A little after 7 pm: Yes - 51 No - 1227 Only with other measures - 85
  14. I remember seeing his stuff before in the 'anti' column...I suspect this is the same...
  15. Of course.....I was an active vol FF for about....(counting on my fingers...carry the one...) 31 years, with three different depts.
  16. Also something to think about - I don't know what the going rate is, but unless these are very high-priced items, I suspect you'll have a difficult time finding anyone to consign them for 10%.
  17. From a corporate perspective, their best bet is to take the silver, THEN move-out at the earliest opportunity. Remington has been in NY since its beginning; I suspect they will keep a minor presence to keep their contact with the past, and to ensure they keep the NY State money. But seriously, who's surprised?
  18. After reading this article, I was hung-up on trying to figure out if this guy Darryl Isherwood or Bryan Miller wrote the article. Cant seem to tell where one stops and the other starts.
  19. Delran Junior Marksmen - on Taylor's Lane just over the Cinnaminson/Delran line (on the right coming from Cinnaminson) is open on weekends. I do not know if they have a junior program. I was a member years ago...its a good range. They are open on weekends for shooting. Their web page is: http://www.delranjuniormarksman.com/ My "home" range is Telco - they have a junior program, but I know little about it. Telco is in Atco, roughly across from Atco Drag Strip. Telco is not an "open" range; they are open to non-members for trap on sundays at noon for february, then March thru November on Monday nights. Telco is not open for general shooting. Their web page is: http://www.telcosportsmensclub.com/
  20. Interesting question......when did a internet-activated cell phone become a required hunting accessory? I think most (like me) are thinking about filling-out the old paper tag.
  21. The cashier isn't threatening to write a citation for a BS violation, then telling me to "tell it to the judge", which will cost me $500-$1000 for a lawyer to defend in court.
