  1. So for my 1911 build I just finished fitting the slide to the frame. My next step is fitting the barrel and bushing to the slide. Should I fit the bushing first so that it can hold the barrel in place when determining the fitting I need to do for the barrel hood to fit into the barrel slot? Or will fitting the hood change the fit of the barrel to the bushing as the barrel hood is fit to the slide? Should i fit he barrel first using my friends stock colt bushing and then fit the oversized bushing after the barrel is fit? I hope my question and way of asking it weren't too confusing. Thanks in advance for any help/advice you guys can give
  2. the bolt assembly on this gun is removed through the rear when the stock is folded. stock has to be pinned in nj. is there some kind of work around for a thorough cleaning? cool looking little rifle
  3. i haven't had any major incidents, knock on wood, but my girlfriend took and .45 shell down her shirt that left a perfectly shaped brass burn on a very sensitive part of her upper body. She kept the muzzle pointed down range the whole time she was cursing at me and trying to get the brass out. I was very proud.
  4. Thanks for the kind words guys. Im 25 my grandpa is 86 and probably in better shape than me, haha. He refused to let me use his digital caliper for my measurements. Made me learn how to use the dial calipers.
  5. My slide to frame fit is complete! Very satisfying to finally finish this part of my first build. Only a few hiccups here and there and my grandpa helped me straighten them out. He was a machinist and electrician for a living so he has 4 of every tool, haha. i definitely bled a lot more than I expected to, but other than that it was an enjoyable experience.
  6. Seems like if its your first gun, go for. If you have other toys to keep you occupied, then wait another month or 2 and save up the extra cash.
  7. why not let her hold and shoot both if possible and see which one feels best in her hand/she shoots best with?
  8. It may speed up the process by getting the police to do their job faster, but there is no way they are going to skip background checks.
  9. 1. Application type (FID/permit w/ existing FID).1 P2P 2. Police Department where you applied. Nutley PD 3. Name of the person you dealt with at the PD. Det. Gus Formato 4. Time taken to issue FID and/or permit. 2 months 2 days June 4th - August 6th 5. Documents required by the PD (aside from the standard application and the mental health release form). Nothing extra. 6. Notes - anything pertaining to the application process (unforeseen difficulties, chief of police calling your home, you hiring an attorney, etc). Nutley has you print out reference letters and give them to the people you listed as references, which I liked. Det. Formato was a pleasant person to deal with.
  10. great pics. I catch plenty of pike and smallmouth just down stream of there.
  11. He's got all his receipts and will be paying them a visit next time he is in the area. He was pretty pissed, and I don't blame him
  12. Mentioned it in the original post. Carter Drugs in Matawan. My friend used them 4 times before I told him that was a bogus tax. Paid over well over 100 dollars extra in transfer fees.
  13. He payed tax on the gun. The shop owner asked him how much he payed for the gun online and then charged him "sales tax" on that price. This was on top on the $25 transfer fee and $15 for nics. I have a strong feeling that the neither the IRS nor the NJ Division of Taxation receives any of these "taxes". This is where my question of legality comes in. Representing a fee as a mandatory government tax to get people to pay more.
  14. I was just talking to my friend and he said that Carter Drugs in Matawan charged him 25 for transfer + 15 for nics + tax on the gun he bought. Is this illegal or just immoral?
  15. no functional difference. they switched to round receivers because they use slightly less material. when your pumping out thousands of guns that extra steel really adds up.
  16. nice job. looks way better but still has some character, love it.
  17. Centerfire and rimfire rifles up to .25 caliber can be used to hunt woodchuck under during certain seasons if you use the correct bullet weight and type. Check out page 66 of the digest. .22's can also be used by trappers for putting live trapped animals down. Always check the digest for the specific regulations so you can be sure your always legal
  18. pick yourself up a NJ Hunting Digest for 2013. They are free and can be found at most sporting goods stores. It has all the hunting regulations and restrictions and seasons for NJ. Here is the pdf version. Should help to answer a lot of your questions. http://njfishandwildlife.com/pdf/2012/dighnt12.pdf
  19. I think your best bet is going in yourself to get them. If the troopers were good at faxing things, your id and permits would have been done a long time ago. My town has the reference forms available for download right from the town's website. I haven't looked at the NJSP site lately
  20. My town has you give the reference letters to the references yourself. They can mail them in or you can bring them right to the police station.
  21. Wow, you should offer these services to people applying for FID's and permits! Make yourself some extra cash on the side, haha. I was recently quoted 2-3 months for a pistol permit and would love to have someone keep the police station on their toes.
  22. the henry seems like a pretty sweet deal. Couldn't find any info on the taurus model though.
  23. Hey all, I really like the look and function of a .22 with wood stock and forend. Are any companies currently putting out a good quality pump .22 or can anyone recommend an older model to be on the lookout for on gunbroker/at local shops?
  24. That's fine and all, as long as you accept the fact that your wife is on a website somewhere talking about how she doesn't tell you how much her jewelery/clothes/housewares really cost
