  1. I've been using bulgarian light steel core surplus in my mosin and boy does this stuff get your rifle dirty. I literally had to cut up an entire white t-shirt to have enough patches to clean the bore. I'm thinking about getting a .30 cal boresnake to see how they work in terms of speeding up the cleaning process. Anyone have any experience using them on exceptionally dirty bores?
  2. I think mental health records should be integrated into the NICS system and that NICS should be standardized so states like NJ can't implement such an ass backwards system.
  3. This is fine for long guns but it won't work for handguns
  4. haha, that carcano looks like a toy next to those beefy mosins. one of those italians is def on my mil surp with list
  5. Link to topic I posted in the C&R forum with barrel/receiver/stock markings http://njgunforums.com/forum/index.php/topic/54371-new-to-me-9130/
  6. Started a thread in another discussion forum on this site about barrel cutting and recrowning and was asked to post so pics of the markings on my mosin. As far as i know its just a run of the mill hex 91/30. I like it a lot and can't wait to put some rounds through it. Here are a few pics Stock Markings Stock repair. Nice and sturdy, those Ruskies do good work Gives you an idea of the counterbore Overall Receiver Top of Barrel Left Barrel Right Barrel
  7. my camera is currently on loan to a friend, I will post pictures when i get it back. I've searched this thing high and low hoping for an ex-sniper! haha, but I'm pretty sure it's just a nice example of an hex receiver 91/30. A few extra eyes giving it a once over couldn't hurt though. Anyone have an experience good or bad with Adco and G&S Hunters in Paterson. Patterson is a pretty short drive for me.
  8. Should be up and running two days after the pope gets married.
  9. haha, while i just have a nice condition run of the mill 91/30 hex I feel I at least owe it the respect of taking it to someone who knows what the hell they are doing for taking out a few nazis in its time.
  10. Can anyone recommend a reputable gunsmith in northeast NJ who can cut and recrown the barrel on my mosin and reattach the front sight? It has a fairly deep counter bore and I wouldn't mind a slightly shorter barrel as it's about 4 miles long on the 91/30. If anyone has a general idea of what the price would be that would help too. Thanks
  11. Photo based FID card makes sense to me. The fingerprint on the card seems pretty useless, a picture in that spot would be much more useful. That being said, everyone having to reapply for a new picture FiD card would be a nightmare in terms of the logistics of actually getting it done in this state.
  12. Nothing like a little dip spit to get a customer in the buying mood...
  13. wont have the ammo till monday. I've been debating whether to join range 14 or EFGA. Basically the same distance from my house for each and comparable pricing. Ill be doing field work for my master's project this weekend instead so ill be outside enjoying the weather at least. Anyone have experience with both ranges and can recommend one over the other?
  14. Yea from what I read about the Bullethole it seems to be it is what it is. But its 5 minutes away so I figured I'd give it a try. Just ordered some shooting muffs for the both of us. She's been shooting well before I have albeit its been .22 indoors, but she's not fussy so I don't see it being a problem.
  15. Maybe I'll wait till Monday when I don't have work or class to take the lady. Thanks for the info guys. As for as the pics go, the best your getting out of me is a pic of the mosin
  16. Yea i've been looking into other ranges but just wanted to hit up the bullethole because its in the town over from me. I live in nutley
  17. Hmm, i purchased some 147gr. Light ball steel bullet, copper washed steel case surplus, so it looks like i won't be shooting this saturday after all
  18. Crap, meant to post this in the new gun owner forums but I guess it can work here too
  19. Hey all, after having my FID for a few years I finally made the plunge and bought a mosin 91/30. I've got some ammo coming in the mail either tomorrow or saturday, so I'll be heading over to the bullet hole to run some rounds through the mosin and see how she shoots. Ill be taking my gf so we will be sharing a port. Any advice for a first time indoor range shooter besides general firearms safety and using common sense? I've done plenty of shotgun/pistol shooting outdoors but this will be my first time shooting a rifle any bigger than 22 lr.
  20. Calling the PD often will get results, I don't doubt that. But the mental health records restoration is a set amount of work that will take a set amount of time, regardless of calls. Local PD's on the other hand have been known to leave FID's on their desks for weeks after the chief signed them without bothering to take the time to call the applicants. Save your calls for your local PD's and your elected representatives.

    NICS checks

12 days with the Easter Holiday mixed in. I'm not sure if that added a day or not.
  22. Let the people do their job. Having to answer the phone every hour because you just "have to know what letter they are on right now!!!!" will only slow them down and piss them off. Acting like impatient little kids isn't going to get you your FPID card any faster.
  23. My FFL said its at about 7 to 10 days now. Tomorrow is 10 days but I won't have time to pick it up until Wednesday so I'll give him a call then if I don't hear from him tomorrow. I'm just glad I at least have my FID already. I believe the standard wait now is closing in on 5 to 6 months except for a few lucky municipalities where the cops don't drag their feet/are totally overwhelmed with new applications
  24. Thanks for the responses everyone. I have been visiting the forums for quite some time and figured I would finally post. I made my first firearm purchase last week, had my FID for about a year. Finally found a mosin in nice shape for a good price and jumped on it. Can't wait to take it to a range, still waiting on my NICS to clear, 9 days now.
  25. Anyone know of any good public/fish and game rifle ranges just across the PA (north of 78) or NY borders? I don't think I would be going often enough to justify a Cherry Ridge membership.
