  1. Based on the advice and valuable guidance in this thread (thank you all, and especially HE), I have enrolled in the S&T Pistol 1 class scheduled for July 1st. I have also just ordered a Glock 26 Gen 4 blue gun which should arrive in 3-4 weeks. Will provide further details once it arrives.
  2. Very recently used the services of Gunsitters in Whippany. (www.gunsitters.com). Wanted to share my positive experience. Also note they are featured on the 4/30 Gun For Hire podcast #309. Listen to it as there is a lot of good information discussed. I have no affiliation with them other than being a new customer. Last month I and my family (kids, grandkids, etc.) had plans to go to Walt Disney World in Florida for 8 days total. I have been familiar with Gunsitteres for several years based on their ads in the ANJRPC newletter and NJSafeCon booth but had not previously had occasion to use them. For this trip, given the distance and time I was going to be away, became very concerned about the safekeeping of my firearms while I was going to be away. Was planning to bring my firearms to Gunsitters (a 50 mile drive each way for me) a week or two in advance of the trip. However, my wife arranged for a family member to stay at the house while we were going to be away, so I held off. However, a two days before the trip that fell through and it was not clear who if anyone would be watching the house or to what extent. So I became very concerned and the day before departure called Gunsitters. Spoke to Eric who was very helpful. Within two hours I arrived at Gunsitters with my firearms. The paperwork process was straight forward. It helps if you bring a list of your firearm make, model, and serial numbers as that information needs to be filled out. I rented one of their lockers(the $75/month size) in their underground vault. It was sufficent to hold my 4 handguns in cases and can accommodate approx 5 long guns with scopes, etc in their cases. (If you use just gun socks, could fit many more.) You yourself will be escorted into the vault and place your firearms into the locker. They never leave your sight during this process. Their employee then places a padlock on the locker and provides you both of the keys to the lock. Only you possess the keys. They retain your payment info as part of the contract, so it will auto-renew each month. This is a good thing in case you can't get back there promptly or, of course, if you have longer term storage needs. They are located on Route 10 East (East of Route 287) and are in the Pine Plaza strip mall. Their storefront is to the left of The Pancake House. Park in an available mall parking spot. Once you discuss your needs and complete the paperwork, their employee will assist you in carrying the firearms from your car into their facility. (I appreciated that as I would have felt very uncomfortable carrying my firearms though a mall parking lot by myself.) Note my GPS(Google Maps) first took me to the REAR loading dock area of the mall. That was not correct. While on vacation I had great peace of mind knowing my firearms were securely stored. I did retain one pistol in my pistol safe at home so that I would have a firearm available to me upon my return until I retrieved the rest. Three weeks later, I called Gunsitters and gave them a heads up that I would be coming to retrieve my firearms. The process was quick and their employee again assisted me in carrying them to my vehicle. I departed promptly(No pancakes, lol) and headed home. They provide a wide range of services for a variety of personal situations. My lesson learned from my experience is: if you think you have a need to store your firearms(e.g. vacation, home remodeling, other, etc), do not procrastinate. Hope you found this helpful and informative.
  3. Thanks for the feedback. Not trying to cause a debate here, but it is not like I am giving our politicians or anti's any new ideas. I was referencing an existing law(unreasonable deviation) that has already been in place for a long time(decades?). I thought it proper to post what I did for the benefit of newer shooters/members of this community that may not be as informed of the nuances of NJ gun law as many of us are.
  4. Ray Ray, can you please clarify why you thought my post was inappropriate. I sincerely want to know.
  5. I have three Glocks all 9mm. Wanted to maintain magazine and parts interchangeability. However, when I bought the third of the three, was very seriously considering the P320. Feels and shoots like my Glock. The P320 is at the top of my list for my next handgun. The big benefit for me with the P320 is the modularity and ability to swap grips and calibers without requiring a P2P. I was not aware of the new X models. Thanks.
  6. Am curious how this would help in your case. It's not like you can park your car at work all day with your handguns in the trunk and go to the range after work. An Unreasonable Deviation. (Of course, long guns would be fine or if you are a Leo)Thanks
  7. I was referring to today's #307 podcast. It has since been corrected with 307A. Thank you
  8. Ant, the podcast seems to be having an issue. I only hear the intro and commercials, not the content. Same thing happened with episode 304, fixed by 304A.
  9. I keep mine in my range bag in a baseball card protector. I used to keep it in my wallet but it started getting very worn.
  10. I subscribe to the USCCA magazine which is excellent. I do not have their insurance. However I have very recently enrolled my wife and I in US Law Shield (same company as Texas Law Shield) 50 state plan. There are presently seminars being given in NJ by Evan Nappen for US Law Shield. Nappen's firm are the leading attorneys for it in NJ. I highly recommend attending one of these seminars. I regard both as good companies. However one of the main differentiators between U S Law Shield and USCCA is the former also covers NJ possession offenses like unreasonable deviations, etc. That was an important consideration for me.
  11. IT Advisory Consultant working for a global India based IT services company.
  12. The cyclical nature of it sounds like brake/rotor related. Worn sway bar links would be more of a clunck when going over bumps. Recommend jacking up and removing the wheel. Turn the rotor by hand and observe whether and where it is rubbing. Also make sure the emergency brake cable is releasing freely at the caliper and not binding.
  13. Thanks for clarifying that it will be your first time conceal carrying. I recently also cc'd for the first time, so I totally understand where you are coming from. Given that is the case, your trip will be a great learning opportunity. Carry whereever you can and are comfortable doing so.
  14. Fwiw, I did receive one reponse back from Representative Audrey Gibson: "Thank you for your email concerning legislation making its way through the 2017 committee process. Many issues will come before us for discussion during committee meetings and ultimately Session. With so many Floridians, writing in on multiple pieces of legislation, it is nearly impossible to answer every email and letter individually. I appreciate your indulgence as I read and research various bills, and their impact on all persons or entities. I will keep your opinion in mind should the specific bill you write about comes to one of my committees or to the Senate Floor. "
  15. I saw it earlier today and placed an order. Best deal I have seen on Glock factory mags.
  16. Just a thought or two. Once you cross into Pa, why not conceal carry to the greatest extent possible (wherever legal). Ie plan to conceal carry the entire time except where not allowed. Whatever time your firearm is stored when you could have been carrying it, dilutes the benefit of bringing it in the first place. Also research the rules for cc at any tourist attractions you may be planning to visit. The sites mentioned above are good resources to research state reciprocity.
  17. Agreed. I have made my "donations" to Florida, Utah, New Hampshire, and Texas over the last few years. And they will be a continuing revenue stream until I pass on.
  18. Within Pa you must go directly to/from the range (like we have to do in NJ). However, if you have a concealed carry permit from ANY state, then you may travel where ever you wish (with gun still unloaded, in trunk, etc). For actual conceal carry in PA, you would need a permit recognized by Pa, such as a New Hampshire or Texas non-resident permit.
  19. Thanks for the clarification. Am hoping for the best, but I think even if we at least get the Senate version ("Resident")into law, it would still represent a huge step forward. I recall Bach also saying it would be less susceptable to a constitutional challenge by the anti- states.
  20. Ok, I listened to the video twice. Maybe I am thick. I heard nothing clarifying the point about needing a resident state permit. 68chris, I would appreciate you elaborating. Btw, as has been discussed by Bach and Nappen on Gun4Hire several times over the last year, such wording might not directly help us here day one. However it would enable most other US citizens to carry in NJ except for us NJ residents. Such a situation would pave the way for us to get CC.
  21. A good "thinking out of the box idea", but not practical from a number of perspectives, not to also mention the aforementioned need to spend most of your time in Pa. Don't forget, your EZPass and cellphone data could be easily used to prove/disprove where you resided throughout the year. So push comes to shove, you can't fudge that. On a related note, worth mentioning that Gunsitters (gunsitters.com) has now opened a branch in Easton, Pa. So, if in 2018, NJ reclassifies my already neutered M&P 15/22 22 long rifle as an "assault weapon", it will have a new home at Gunsitters in Easton, until such time it then moves to my eventual Pa residence.
  22. With regards to the A2938 bill and laws of it's type, there is no doubt it should dissuade people from seeking any kind of mental health treatment, even something as benign as obtaining advice related to child rearing, marriage, work challenges, etc. Also, when I go for my yearly physical and my doctor asks "How's your stress level on a scale of 0-10"; my answer is now always zero. Or, to quote another forum member's post from a while back: "The only person I open my mouth for is my dentist." The danger is that most people are not as focused as we are on issues such as this. Many will unknowingly dig themselves into a hole only to find out later they are listed in a database with mental health disqualifers. Our anti-2A legislators are playing a strategic long game.
  23. I am not saying it is the most effective but I used Federal Guarddog when I recently CC'd in Pa. It is expanding FMJ.
