  1. So I go this week to take my field exam and am excited. I have been shooting my longbow for a few years but not confident with it to take a deer, so I got a compound. I can say that I am 100% with the compound for hunting and taking an animal. I have a few questions about hunting and rules. Any help would be great.

    1. Is it legal to go into a WMA area and do some scouting and tracking to prepare/plot for the season?

    2. What is a good WMA or other public land to start? I plan on ground hunting.

    3. What gear will I actually need? bug spray, Binos, camo and bow is about all I have. With all the things available on the market I don't even know were to begin.

    4. Is there a good resource on animal tracking and signs to look for when planing for a hunt?

    5. If i get lucky is there a good butcher to process the deer after the harvest?

You need a permit for a bow ??

  2. Downsouth, that hog activity is crazy.  I can't imagine having that IMBY.

I have friends that went to SC for hog hunts, and came up dry 10 years ago...  I've heard times have changed and the hogs have spread in area and numbers.  I have considered making a trip down with a trailer to transport the bad boys back up north to my smoker....   mmmmm.

For now, it's smoked fish and store bought pork shoulders.

We hunt them all summer long !!!  Can't kill them fast enough. Come deer season we shot them but not so much .

  3. Great day of hunting !!  Got to knock the stink off my new Rock River Car A4 with a Nikon P 223 scope. 15 shots 3 hogs . Its my new go to gun for hogs . Lead and brass was a flying and hogs was a dying !

  4. My PA Pig (Sow) weighed-in at 239 pounds "on-the-hook", after both field dressing AND skinning.  Filled the two freezers I have!  62 pounds of smoked pork products (chops, hams and a ton of bacon) and countless fresh hams, pork chops, pork roasts, etc.

Used a 167 year-old model of a .44 Cap-N-Ball Colt Revolver with a 225 grain soft lead conical that started to open-up upon impact.  One shot stop and never did find the slug, lol!

Smokin.50  Nice job with the CAP-N -BALL one of the 1st pigs I got was with my 50 cal smoke pole !!

  5. I hunt hogs (Russian boars) and wouldn't use anything smaller than .44 mag.  I shot one last year that was 350 lbs.  Most southern states allow handgun hunting for deer and hogs.

Would love to see some pics of your hunt !! Did it eat good that big ?  Where do you hunt wild ( Russian boars ) ? Thanks

  6. I have an old Remington  550-1 semi auto that is marked short long and long rifle It will hold about 20 CCI 22 CB shorts !!  is this  rifle illegal in NJ ??  I only ask becuse in my will my Brothers kids get my guns. Thanks for your time

  7. post-6649-0-03314000-1367381846_thumb.jpgpost-6649-0-09143800-1367381776_thumb.jpg Deer turkey and hogs !! if you look close you can see that the tail of the hog is missing . old guy next door traps them when the are young and then nuts the males to make them barr hogs and cuts the tail off and slits the ear so he knows he traped it already . Best eating hogs you can get !!
