I've got an Ultradot 25 (1") on my Ruger Mark III pistol. I like it, works good, battery lasts a long time. http://www.ultradotusa.com I bought it from http://www.ultradotwest.com/ It cost about $145 at the time but prices have gone up in the past few years. They make a variety of sights, might be something that strikes your fancy. Says they are made in Japan with a lifetime warranty. I'll have to take a look at mine when I get home.

Buying new gun and ammo from gun shops
mark_anthony_78 replied to lhrocker's topic in Ranges & Gun Shops
I've seen very few empty ammo shelves recently (although it was bad for a while) but I've seen plenty of full ones with high price tags. I guess that's one way to make sure you keep stock on hand. -
NC is much better than NJ but I think they still have things like handgun purchase permits, etc. SC is on my list of places to look as well. I wish they allowed open carry and didn't have "No Guns" signs with the force off law, but again it's 1000x better than NJ with no limits on the hardware (mag limits, evil features, NFA, etc.)

Senate to vote on reciprocity next week

Anyone have a list of the actual bill #'s? -
If WMA does not allow handguns, then as far as the state would be concerned, it's not a "range" for handguns. It's simply state property where they allow the use of long guns. They have more expensive lawyers than you can afford. They would win the dictionary battle.
-
Probably criminal possession of a handgun, since the range is not an exempt location.
-
Maybe they came preloaded with ammo too!
-
Yeah, I don't need a 1/2 dozen of those

That was quick. Let me know when you're in town and we'll settle my debt Almost any time of day works for me if I get a little heads up.

Not a bad deal, but they are smaller cans.
-
If you need 2, I'll take 6. DS want 4?
-
I'm in for 4 to 6 cans... located in Hackettstown. DeerSlayer isn't far from me, not sure where you are located.

It's too bad you can't burn junk e-mail as well... then you would have enough to heat your neighbor's house too. -
50 cal Ammo Cans - Where to buy?
mark_anthony_78 replied to diamondd817's topic in Ammunition & Reloading
"SH1379" is free shipping on $49 or more. Ends 1/5/2015. -
My shop usually price matches (+$25), and according to GunWatcher.com the best price for the sport is $565 at J&J Gun Supply. So I'd be able to pick one up for $590 + tax and NICS today. Buying it online and doing the transfer would "temporarily" save you the sales tax...

50 cal Ammo Cans - Where to buy?
mark_anthony_78 replied to diamondd817's topic in Ammunition & Reloading
A week or two back I belive RuralKing.com had them on sale for $9.99 plus shipping. Might have been a holiday deal, so I don't know how often they run promos. As of right now, they are $12.98 plus shipping. http://www.ruralking.com/crow-shooting-supply-green-metal-ammo-can-50-cal-m2a1.html -
If you pick the *cheapest* available parts at PSA (upper, lower, trigger, BCG, stock) you might end up in the $500's. Don't forget shipping, transfer fees (on the lower), flip up sights, and compliance work. I think the Sport gets a lot of knocks because it isn't a DIY supreme rifle, but about $600 complete with a warranty (or whatever S&W calls it) and walk out the door ready to shoot I think it still has great value.

Steel gong construction.
mark_anthony_78 replied to 302w's topic in Firearm Hobby / Sport Discussion
I've got 1/2" thick AR500 targets from ShootSteel.com. 5.56 and handgun calibers are simply vaporized and don't even scratch the plates (just removes the paint). I've had friends/relatives also hit it with 7.62 and .243 at 100 yards. Square hits make tiny divots (maybe 1/32"deep at most) and a couple edge hits have scoured out a little bullet sized groove but it would take a lot of rounds to wear them out. My frame is built from 2x3's and they are taking a beating from bullet fragments/splatter - structurally OK but splinters and lead everywhere. I just hang the plates with rope, but that wears out fast too. I'd use heavier stuff if not for the fact that I have to lug everything out to the 100 yard line every time I want to use it at the club, and chains, etc. get pretty heavy. -
I've had no problems with my M&P 15 Sport. Cost me ~$700 last year, probably cheaper now. I can easily ring 3" steel at 100 yards using cheapo Russian ammo (and a 2-7x Redfield scope).

I may swing by to observe those events when the weather gets warmer. I saw a few guys practicing at the club last Friday and it looked like fun. I shoot steel, but just stand stationary so moving around and quickly targeting different distances is the next skill I need to develop.

Yep. Basic pistol assumes no knowledge of firearms, covers revolvers and semi-autos, and has some live fire. Doesn't really cover any "technique", just intro to shooting. I picked up a tip or two, but it's really geared towards very new (or not yet) gun owners. Follow that by NRA Personal Protection in the Home (of which basic pistol is a pre-requisite). PPIH has MUCH more live fire, rapid fire, shooting from behind cover, etc. I enjoyed that class a lot. There's also a bit of lawyer talk with an attorney, in case you have questions on the use of deadly force, but honestly I felt there was a lot of "I can't really tell you what to do because I'm not ACTUALLY your lawyer." I'm thinking of doing Personal Protection Outside the Home next depending on when my club offers the course.
