  1. Was that Hagedorn Hospital? That's where I had to go to get fingerprints for my FID.
  2. Agreed. Just trying to say it clearly for others. We all agree our laws can be confusing, but taking one snippet (out of several pages of law) out of context and without regard to the exemptions doesn't do anybody any favors. The OP's friend should buy the pellet gun he wants, not worry about being a felon (he won't be), but should still get an FID card and join the fight for more rights in NJ. That way he could also legally take the pellet gun to a friend's house (which would be illegal without the FID) or a shooting range.
  3. New Jersey has absolutely ZERO legal standing on the *transaction* that occurs in Pennsylvania, because the only law that requires both state's purchasing requirements to be fulfilled is a Federal statute related to firearms - as defined Federally (i.e. not BB guns). New Jersey only has legal authority over the *possession* of the item (that NJ considers a firearm) when you return to this state. Possession does NOT require an FID if you keep the firearm at your residence (or transport from the place of purchase back to your residence).
  4. "It's already illegal to walk around with a loaded rifle or shotgun if you're not a licensed hunter in season," That's the other requirement in that particular exception (subsection g). The firearm has to be unloaded/cased/locked away properly, even between the exempted locations. If you have a loaded firearm you're in trouble no matter what. Technically, if you have an FID you can keep an unloaded/cased long gun in your trunk (no hollow point ammo) all the time. Want to be the test case, though?
  5. No problem. That looks like a pretty nice case, which I would also get if I ever buy a 10/22 (although the take-down is first on my list and that comes with a backpack).
  6. No, they are complementary... 2c:39-5 just means that if you are "out and about" with a rifle/shotgun, you MUST have an FID card or you're in big trouble. That's the "high level" situation. The EXCEPTION is that if you are at home/business, or in between specifically exempted locations, an FID card is not needed.
  7. What about... http://shopruger.com/Flagstaff-Ruger-10_22-Rifle-Case/productinfo/19079/#
  8. Should be the same as buying a long BB gun. The "purchase" is made per the state laws at the store, which would be SC and not NJ, as well as Federal laws (which don't give a crap about BB guns). The "possession" would follow NJ laws once you got back. Pistol PURCHASE permit not needed, since you didn't buy it in NJ, and registration is voluntary.
  9. The "quote" is mostly correct: 2C:39-5c: Rifles and shotguns. (1) Any person who knowingly has in his possession any rifle or shotgun without having first obtained a firearms purchaser identification card in accordance with the provisions of N.J.S.2C:58-3, is guilty of a crime of the third degree. However, let's not forget about the exemptions in 2C:39-6. Nothing in subsections b., c. and d. of N.J.S.2C:39-5 shall be construed to prevent a person keeping or carrying about his place of business, residence, premises or other land owned or possessed by him, any firearm, or from carrying the same, in the manner specified in subsection g. of this section, from any place of purchase to his residence or place of business, between his dwelling and his place of business, between one place of business or residence and another when moving, or between his dwelling or place of business and place where such firearms are repaired, for the purpose of repair. For the purposes of this section, a place of business shall be deemed to be a fixed location. So if you are operating OUTSIDE that exemption, you need an FID. Otherwise, you're good.
  10. I'm getting mixed results on my phone... loaded some pages, then stopped loading others.
  11. Everyone knows the last 0.043" is the most deadly part of the BB.
  12. Trade the flash hider for a brake (must be pinned or welded on), grind off the bayonet lug, pin the adjustable stock, and toss the 30 round magazines for 10's or 15's.
  13. My opinion is that it should be enjoyed by occasionally taking it out for a bit of shooting, but still keep it clean and cared for in between those sessions. It's a $1,400 gun... not a million dollar one. People beat the crap out of AR's or shotguns that cost more than $1,400. So you go out and buy a 686 that cost $7-800 dollars to use as a "shooter"... that's only a few hundred $$ less in the grand scheme of things. Hardly throwing away a grand inheritance for your progeny considering the Colt isn't going to drop to zero value just because it's had a few bullets through the barrel. I guess I just buy things (even nice ones) to use, not to collect dust.
  14. Their infinite lack of 38 Special and 357 Magnum... other than that, good deals!
  15. The only caveat is you need to make sure it's something legal to POSSESS in NJ. Go out and *buy* whatever air gun you'd like in the free world, but if the model is banned in NJ (like the Gamo Whisper with its "silencer") you will still not be allowed to *own* it here.
  16. It's simple, you just need to show your DL and FID, then fill out a COE to complete a FTF P2P.
  17. I would say the safety reminder is to watch out for dead trees on your property that are held up only by the old bark. I think a squirrel fart would have knocked that tree over.
  18. ShopRuger is having a sale today only (10/22) with 10% off and free shipping on any order $22 or more. Plus you get entered in the 10/22 rifle sweepstakes. http://shopruger.com/
  19. After riding/racing dirt bikes for a few years, this 2003 YZF600R was my first brand new bike.
  20. Usually 1 box per customer, which means the shipping kills the deal unless you were already ordering something else.
  21. I'm concerned that you're mixing "beginner" with "passenger" and "80MPH" in one topic. Start with a cheapo 350 dual sport or ~500cc cruiser, get the initial drops and close calls out of your system, and then move on up. My progression was Yamaha GT80 -> Yamaha YZ125 -> KTM 200 -> Yamaha YZF600R -> Honda Shadow 1100. Obviously the first three were offroad only (and hare scrambles/enduros). Took my road test on a friend's XT350. It's not all about displacement. The YZF wasn't really fun until about 60 MPH, and the Shadow sucks at that speed or above.
  22. Remington works fine in my guns. Winchester does not get along with my Savage Arms .22, it's always getting stuck/fail to extract.
  23. Formula seems right, but your results are not: .22 = 12/16 * 60 * 1000 = 45,000 .223 = 12/9 * 60 * 3000 = 240,000 9mm = 12/10 * 60 * 1200 = 86,400 Makes F1 engines seem downright slow...
  24. Same here. Very glad for Shaneen but this feels like a calculated political move to avoid litigation questioning our laws. The AG's clarification also seems to create more protections/leniency for non-residents than residents, and although IANAL, something can't be right about that.
