  1. This is New Jersey government you are talking about. There has never been any joined-up-thinking here. The process says check the mental health records going back 10 years for an initial application, and renewals are to be treated just like initial applications. It doesn't matter to them that you lived in NY 8-10 years ago and they got those records before. They have to get them again - you know, just in case 8-10 year old history changed since they last got a copy of those records. It required dragging them kicking and screaming to accept that being fingerprinted every time you applied for a PCH was pointless. You know, fingerprints that they use to identify you because everybody's are unique and unchanging have to be taken again, just in case they changed.
  2. I used to be like you, cleaning after just about every range trip. I don't do that any more. I have handguns with over 1000 rounds through them since they were last cleaned. I just add oil as needed. I don't shoot rifle nearly as often as handgun and I can't remember when I last cleaned one. Everything gets wiped down with a silicone infused cloth before going back in the safe. One of my 1911's was slowing down during a match last month. Being cold didn't help. I added oil and it returned to normal function. Defensive guns get more diligent care.
  3. Is this for handgun? Most people assume rifle when talking about long range.
  4. LPL shows how to do it... https://youtu.be/c2DcfJLquOk?si=53MSrSzGOsctgEAC
  5. That's just carbon build up. Not a big deal. It is one of the consequences of a DI system. A tool like this makes cleaning it much easier. https://www.amazon.com/CAT-Outdoors-Scraping-Scraper-Cleaning/dp/B09QY26MKS
  6. Carrying and transporting are not the same thing.
  7. This is why I went to the effort to have every handgun I own added to my court order.
  8. A PCH does not allow you to open carry so the guy was in the wrong. It does seem the response was over the top too. If you were up to no good, would you really open carry while you did your grocery shopping? Where did this report come from?
  9. Have you shot any of the slim Glocks? The felt recoil impulse is rather different as there is much less surface area for your hand to mate with. Personally, I don't like them. That may be exacerbated by the fact I have pretty large hands and the double stack Glocks fit me well. To give you an idea of my hand size, I can hit the mag release and slide stop with my thumb without moving my grip at all.
  10. Only if you are a carry permit holder do you have a duty to inform even if only transporting. If you don't have a carry permit, the old rules apply and there is no duty to inform. You should answer honestly if asked if there are guns in the vehicle, however.

    Gone South

Ghost loading isn't an issue. The statute restricts the number of shells the magazine can hold. It is silent on how many can be sitting on the lifter.
  12. A G17 slide will not work on a G19 frame. You need a G47 or G49 slide to make it work on G19 frame - the G49 is essentially what you would be creating by putting a G17 length slide/barrel on a G19 sized frame. It is the length of the recoil systems that needs to match for it to work.
  13. The only reliable way to do this would be to do a standalone backup of the 2 partitions, resize them while still in standalone mode, then restore from the backup media. To be safe, I would take a backup of all your partitions just in case anything goes wrong with modifying the partition table.
  14. I carry a CZ P-01 with a TLR-6a in a kydex IWB holster (approx. the size of a Glock 19). There is a sweet spot between 3 o'clock and 4 o'clock where it doesn't sit on any bone, but I can sit in the car, or any other seat without issue.
  15. There is no clear definition as to what modifications are acceptable or not acceptable. The requirement is that they are "permanently modified." If you are just inserting a block then there must be something else that is done so you can't just remove the block later. Many places will epoxy the baseplate so you most likely will destroy the body of the mag if you want to get the baseplate off. Other designs, such as the Hexmag 10/30 AR mag use a spacer on the baseplate which raises the spring seat higher and they supply a shortened spring. With this design, if you remove the spacer, the spring won't be long enough to put pressure on the rounds so it can't feed. Hexmag used to be shipped with removable baseplates and I have several of them. I found out a couple of years ago that Hexmag are now riveting the baseplate as well, for no explainable reason. The problem with getting blocks and installing them yourself, is you need to get the mags shipped somewhere outside of NJ where you can install them and make them permanent. If you're asking about getting them from the second link you posted, then adding the epoxy yourself to be sure you're legal, check the bottom of the description. They will add the epoxy FoC if you ask. For states that do not require the base sealed shut we can still epoxy it shut on request free of charge. Just let us know you would like it done.
  16. The statute allows the Superintendent of NJSP to designate what forms need to be filled in and submitted with your application. They designed form SP.182a to achieve the requirement to determine the guns you intend to carry when you apply. The statute does not grant NJSP or a local PD the authority to require submission of any details of a gun you intend to carry outside of the application process. If you change your mind after you receive your permit and want to carry a gun that you did not originally list, there is no requirement for you submit an updated form, and no authority in the statute that allows NJSP or your PD to demand it. NB. If you have a Court issued permit that restricts you to carrying specific guns, you are still limited by that until the court order is amended (not going to happen) or you obtain a new permit. Almost all court issued permits will have expired by the end of this year.
  17. I am only really concerned with a relatively consistent muzzle velocity that makes power factor for the competition division I'm loading for, and that the bullets don't keyhole. So long as they are good for 4" or so offhand at 25 yards, I'm fine with them.
  18. No it doesn't. It says the FFL must notify NJSP immediately.
  19. Unless you were a resident of PA at the time, that would have been an illegal transfer under Federal law. All inter-state transfers have to go through an FFL. For long guns that can be an FFL in either State. For handguns it must be an FFL in the receiving person's home State.
  20. You're missing the point. Previously, the barrel and other metal parts made a gun detectable. The reason Glocks and similar guns have a metal insert which has the serial number stamped into it is to make them detectable. The issue is that the ATF wants to redefine what a gun is to include component parts other than the frame or receiver. This would mean that all those other components which were not previously a gun, are now defined as a gun. Therefore they would be illegal if they didn't also have a detectable element included in them.
  21. A couple of years ago I went to WV for a class. Before I went I called US Law Shield to ask about the legality of an other down there. Their WV lead attorney called me back and I had to explain what a non-NFA Other was and why we had them. His advice was to remove the VFG while in WV which would turn it into a pistol as far as WV was concerned. He was unsure what it's status would be with the VFG still attached.
  22. I have been to Chuck E Cheese exactly once when the kids were small. We got through the first door, no more than 4 feet. My then wife and I shared a look and immediately turned around.
