  1. I am pretty sure (but not certain) that you have to have the 30-06 for the CMP as issued matches. I don’t think you can use the gas plugs for some matches. Probably should take a look at rule book if you want to do matches at some point. I have the 30-06. I’ve bought the Greek HXP as well as new commercial Privi and Sellier and Bellot. You have to plan a little more vs. getting the 308 which is easier to get. Right now it is easy enough to mail order ammo to your door but who knows in 2018. My brother in NY has to have ammo delivered to an FFL. Whatever you do, just get a Garand or even more than one.!One of the most fun rifles I own - great to shoot and a lot of nostalgia. Every time I hear that ping it makes me smile. Good Luck!! Let us know what you decided.
  2. I found their gunsmiths to be very helpful. I used them only once so far about a year ago to fix a broken plunger tube on my 1911. I spoke to The one gunsmith Mike on the phone and he suggested I come in when the other gunsmith Tom is in because does a lot more 1911s. I met both of them when I was there and Tom fixed it while I waited. I was used to other guys elsewhere making me come back weeks later so was pleasantly surprised. I have to get back in there for other work I need done soon.
  3. Thanks so much for all the feedback and guidance.
  4. I had virtually the same issues you are describing. I have a 1939 Tula. I put 49 rounds though it for the first time on Monday and the bolt got stickier and stickier. That Video folks are mentioning is great. I didn't have to go as far as that yet though. There is a groove cut in the end of the barrel for the extractor. The chamber was clean and I discovered that groove had some cosmolene in it still. I used quips and could not clear it. I borrowed my wife's hair dryer and after getting that area warmed up enough I sprayed non chlorinated brake cleaner there until it cleaned up. The bolt cycled pretty good after that. In terms of modifying the spring as in the video, I didn't want to do that myself. I ordered a lighter spring from crspring.com which also seemed to help.
  5. I also just joined about two weeks ago and finally went on Monday. It really is an awesome place. The only mistake I made was not to buy a guest pass at Sarco's when I signed up.
  6. My friend plans to go to PA to range. Right now his only option to fit the case is to put it straight in with the seat down 1/2 in trunk 1/2 in back seat. That's unless he buys the roof trunk xcargo.
  7. Here's a slightly different twist to this. My friend has a Honda Accord with a small trunk. His large Mauser 98 GEW is in a large 54" hard Plano LOCKED case. It does not fit in the trunk (about 45" opening", but would fit if he lays down the back seat and puts it straight in. Can the case protrude into the back seat? I know you can't do it with a non locking case, but don't know given the case locks. I'm thinking he needs a smaller gun or a bigger car. We also pondered one if those roof rail mounted trunks like xcargo.
  8. Thanks for the feedback. I bought normal card size self adhesive laminate last night that was too small. I'll try again. My father was in the security business before he retired (cc tv, alarms, key cards). He has every imaginable cardholder but none big enough to hold fid so laminating seems best.
  9. I was wondering if firearms I'd card can be laminated of if that invalidates it in some way. My cards get beat up fast in my wallet.
  10. Lake! But my son goes to Mt. View on other side of town.
  11. My brother lives in Goshen right by Middletown and got a Mosin at Gander last week. Was a decent one too. He had to order it however.
  12. I applied on 5/7 and got the card yesterday. So about 11 weeks. I called to follow up after 30 days and then every week and never got a call back and ended up in voicemail. So then I emailed and got an immediate and helpful response. Seems my employer (hr in Minnesota) was not returning the employment reference. Once they had this it was less than two weeks later.
  13. Hi, my name is Dan and I recently joined the forum after following it for some time. I live in Mount Olive and am the father of boy and girl twins. I just got my FID today. My brother encouraged me to get my FID so we could go shooting like we used to with my father each summer when we were kids and hopefully do this with our own kids when they are old enough. The information you guys are sharing in this forum is awesome.
