  1. Yep, road tripping out to Cabelas tomorrow ... did you notice if they had any Mini-Mags?
  2. I did grow up at McGuire AFB before it was JB MDL... with the old man in the Air Force I got to see a lot of air shows over the years. Trying to get him to go again. If you're really looking to see the Blue Angels, they're flying up in Rhode Island next month on the 17th and 18th. http://www.riairshow.org/performers.html
  3. Rockaway has them from time to time, but a limit of 3 boxes or one bulk box. But I've found that my P22 only likes eating Mini-Mags, and I ask every time I'm in there. Every time they laugh... I've been overpaying for them at RTSP but at least I can get them.
  4. This is exactly it. And this is why I try to help others understand, one at a time.
  5. AndyB, you and I have a lot in common on our wish lists! Here's the realistic list... it you notice my interest is largely in military history... and they're pretty major advancement in technology. I pretty much want one of everything that ever made a difference in forming the world as we know it. I know I'm missing some but I'm pretty sure the most modern advancement on here is the Barrett. Handguns Automatic Pistol, Caliber .45, M1911 Automatic Pistol, Caliber .45, M1911A1 Luger P08 Walther P38 Walther PP Tokarev TT Browning Hi-Power Pistol, Semiautomatic, 9mm, M9 SIG Sauer P226 Rifles United States Rifle, Caliber .30-06, Model 1903 United States Rifle, Caliber .30, M1 United States Carbine, Caliber .30, M1 Lee Enfield SMLE Mk III Gewehr 41 Gewehr 43 Karabiner 98k Mosin-Nagant SVT-40 SKS FN FAL AK-47 AK-74 Dragunov Remington 700 Barrett M82
  6. Well stated. As another young dude who's friends with more liberal young dudes, we were brought up in a pretty liberal environment. From day one in schools we're taught guns are bad. And many of my peers never questioned this, and never learned to think about the other side of the coin. We're taught that they're killing machines, but have never discussed the positive impact they can have. If guns are bad, the NRA is bad. Growing up, I was told that the NRA is a bunch of rednecks that want to maintain entire arsenals at home. And many have never questioned this. Without anyone questioning what they're taught, people don't get exposure to guns, people don't try to learn any more about guns. If you don't want to know anything about it, the NRA represents everything you were ever taught was bad. And of course there's the media. I have yet to see a single televised news story where a gun saved a life, or protected others. We only ever hear about the crazies who would have done harm with something else if it wasn't a gun. Despite how and where I was raised, I questioned what I was thought, and made an effort to expose myself to shooting. Now I'm a gun owner and NRA member. I don't outwardly tout it since I am in a liberal state and work for a rather liberal company, but I don't hide it if asked. I've encouraged others to learn about guns and have brought many people to the range to experience it for themselves. What I've really discovered is most people who fear guns have never been around them and have never learned that they can be used safely. What people need is exposure by someone they trust. If every gun owner can expose 4 or 5 people to guns and help them understand their use, we'll have 3 or 4 less people that fear guns, and in my experience, one or two new gun owners.
  7. I just placed an order too... I've got high hopes! I don't mind providing my FID... I have to everywhere else.
  8. Just paid $19.99/box for Remington UMC .380 and CCI Blazer .380 and $21.99/box of American Eagle .380. Last week I paid $24.99 for a box of Winchester Target (white box) .380. Still trying to find the best bang for my buck in my new PPK.
  9. More now than ever I'd say... my buddy got me into it, and I've since gotten two more into shooting. As far as talking about gun ownership, I won't bring it up, but I won't deny it if asked either. I'm very open about my ownership, but I don't blab about it to people who don't ask, or don't care.
  10. Pistol Basic is one of the best things I ever did as far as shooting goes. Got me out of some bad habits and into some good ones. Take as much as you can out of the class... I don't think you can get that kind of bang for your buck just putting rounds down range!
  11. Wow, that's a great list! Good call on the energy bars too... And if you ever run into me at the range, ask me for some. I'm always carrying extra because my company makes 'em!
  12. Done and done. What else? What should I have in my range bag?
  13. If you were to put together a checklist for a new gun owner, what would you tell them to get? How about for different types of firearms? Revolvers? Pistols? Shotguns? Rifles? What would you recommend a new gun owner purchase to be properly equipped?
  14. First time using the range at RTSP yesterday and was none but impressed. Despite a wait of about an hour (we went mid-day on a Sunday in winter, so I don't anticipate this wait being typical). The two guys I was with were new shooters and got the new shooter walkthrough from one of the RSO's, who's name I unfortunately didn't get because I would personally like to thank him for his hospitality and good nature all around! Definitely considering a membership at RTSP so I can get in early mornings.
  15. Hi all, I'm Tim. I'm currently awaiting my FID paperwork to come back and will be looking to purchase a handgun in the near future. I grew up with a mother who is anti-guns so I've had to wait until 26 to get my own. I've taken NRA Basic Pistol and will be looking to expand my knowledge once I get my own. I'm up in the air between a few different firearms and calibers, but in my experience, I prefer an all metal gun and have not developed a soft spot for polymer guns with the exception of the Walther P22. Anyway, I'll be doing the search once my paperwork comes back. Just wanted to say hi! Tim
  16. This is reassuring... right around the corner from my office! I'll have to drop in and say hi!
  17. Well, I'll be crossing my fingers that this lightens up in the next couple of months while I wait for my paperwork to come back.
  18. Hi All, My name is Tim, I'm looking to purchase my first pistol later this year. I'm going through the FID process now and while I wait, I'm looking to decide on a first pistol. But my question is this... how's the ammo situation? I haven't heard anything one way or another, but stopping by Dick's in Rockaway last night, the salesman said they've gotten in .22 but it's gone in a day, and 9mm and .40 will sit around for a day or two. My first purchase is somewhat dependent on this. I've shot several that I liked, all calibers and could be happy with any of them as a first firearm. Target shooting only, no self defense or anything. What's readily available? 9mm? .40? .45? Is .22 still worth its weight in gold? Thanks and nice to meet you all, Tim
