  1. Maybe that's why they are sticking with the M249 SAW (LMG I guess they call it now) instead of the M27. (edit to add: the Army is sticking with the M249. The Corps is moving ahead with the M27)
  2. It appears that the title to my thread is proving to be too confusing for some people. I thought that "Glock appreciators" might be a major clue, but ok, maybe I added too many other words to the title and that has thrown some people off. As per the poster's preference for one (and only one) particular striker fire handgun... I had planned on checking out the Walther PPQ (in 40 cal), so at least we're not a full180 off. (that said... please stay out of my shoes. I'm still wearing them, and they have no bearing on my next handgun purchase anyway. However, if you were in my shirt... I might let you pick out a tie)
  3. I'm trying to determine if you are being insulting, being boastful, or both.... but I'll look into that firearm regardless. Thanks for the heads-up.
  4. I'm sure that the Marine Corps would be on board with free float handguards, since it's my understanding that they've been pushing for them since the advent of the MWS (on the updated A2's). (I'll pass in regard to commenting on field stripping and cleaning, since I am not familiar enough with the free float rails to speak with any authority on those aspects) However I'm not so certain about shortening the barrel to 16in. That's what the M4 was about, so I'm doubtful that they would want a compromise-length weapon to replace either weapon. The M16 has it's situational purpose and the M4 has it's situational purpose. Both situational purposes would be compromised by a "meet in the middle" barrel length. I don't think there's ANY way the Marine Corps drops the 20in barrel and it's 500 meter effective range. No way. As for A1 style barrel profile.... that's old school There have been dozens of sea stories about jarheads bending those barrels, but I don't know what's true or not. All I do know is that any reduction in weight would be welcomed with open arms! As for full auto... I doubt that they will go back to that. We had it in my day, but we were reamed out big time if we let loose with anything more than a 5 round burst. There are other weapons in an infantry unit for laying down that kind of sustained-auto spray if needed. Full auto gets hot(!!!) and ammo disappears in a hurry. So when it comes to a return of full auto... I just don't see that happening. That's a few thoughts.
  5. Yes, that is so true. And that is the biggest influence that I've taken from this thread at this point. So yeah... I'm most definitely doing research regarding conversion cross-breeding of calibers. And since a few have already inquired, I'll now state (since it was an overdue bit of info that I didn't already mention and which I didn't mean to omit) is that the intended use of this next gun purchase was for "variety" reasons. I just want another kick-ass handgun to play with... and to be able to bring down a bad-guy (in other words... not just a fun range gun). As a rifle (/distance) guyI never expected to enjoy firing handguns, but my Glock 19 has expanded my world and made me hungry in a new way. So anyway... My considerations relate mostly to availability/cost of ammo. Therefore I don't need anything specific (caliber-wise), I just want to be able to actually shoot it without endless searching and/or and endless budget for ammo. (if that helps)
  6. INTERESTING!!!!! Yes, that's totally me (high school and well beyond). So ok, '1911' seems to be a generic term for many manufactures. Therefore if you could possibly provide some greater detail regarding your own experience, I may dove-tail off of that and go my own way with it. Care to share??
  7. No need for apologies. I don't care at all when threads go awry and people have fun. Sometimes threads run their course and sandtrap into inanity. Sometimes they deviate for comical relief. And sometimes they pick back up where they left off and return naturally to the topic. The thread that I referenced though was a bit heavy-handed with post deletion (in my opinion). And that's the only reason why I pointed out the disconnect here. But no. I wasn't wishing for or fishing for an apology. Nor was I pulling an internet version of "stay off my lawn!". This thread is not holy scripture, so I don't care if people want to spray paint all over it with graffiti. I'm just grateful for the input that I've received here, so all is cool.
  8. Don't you have an active thread in which you required that others stay on topic?
  9. Ok, then we agree to disagree. I personally found it helpful, so I am grateful that others did't share your opinion. And actually I had intended to ignore your opinion until the last poster quoted it. You expressed your opinion, and I expressed mine.... and the world continues to spin on it's axis. Lets consider that a success.
  10. Nah. No offense taken. I just didn't feel that lending support for the post that you quoted was something that was worthy of repeating. At least not in this thread. To be truthful, I found it dismissive, judgmental, and rather pompous. Aside from that, I thought it was awesome ; )
  11. And I couldn't agree less. (so I'll respectfully -1 that) The entire nature of this thread is about as far from an impulse buy as one can get. And the idea of asking for recommendations within a gun-based community hardly indicates a need to buy more ammo, training, and practice instead. Seriously? This is a gun forum. What better place to acquire people's experience with an array of firearms that I've never fired before? I enjoyed all of the input that was put forth by the people who took their time to do so. Obviously some of it does not match my own personal preferences, so I will respectfully decline to pursue those further. But since I already own a trio of firearms that I already enjoy shooting, it's good to get a cross-section of what others enjoy shooting, and then match those to my own preferences. After all, when one is curious about something, the best thing to do is gather more information. And I've been provided with some interesting options that I will look into further. The bottom-line is that I wanted to hear from others who have had experience with certain types of handguns AND who have Glock sensibilities. In other words, shooters who value performance over plain looks. Substance over style. And that's why I titled the email as I did. I wanted to hear from those who look at firearms with performance and practical use as being at the core of their recommendations. I truly appreciate the input here, and I've already been doing some homework on some of the suggestions that interested me the most. This has been quite helpful. Thanks again.
  12. I'm seriously appreciating all of these responses and suggestions. Thank you guys! And just so you know, I'm not being an absentee thread starter. I just wanted to accumulate plenty of suggestions before commenting. And now.... well the Rangers game approaches, so I'm further detained from responding. But I did want to thank everyone for contributing though, so THANKS!!!
  13. I've got the Glock (gen4/19). I've got the revolver (S&W 5 round J-frame). I've got the AR (which as a former Marine is essentially my 6th appendage). And... I've got another P2P. So here's the deal.... I love the Glock. It is so sweet that it now commands as much attention at the range that my AR does when I go to the range (BLASPHEMY - for a Marine rifleman, but true!). The AR and the Glock are perfect as far as I'm concerned. They are both as basic and reliable and easy to use/fire/break-down as I could ever want. So what should I do with this other P2P??????? I don't need a canon (nor do I really want a canon), and I'm not really looking to start a Glock collection. I've monitored the ammo situation (availability) and 40 seems to be plentiful. So that's my initial thought. However... As someone who appreciates the simplicity/reliability of a Glock, and who is not really a "handgun guy" type, what suggestions would you guys offer? Obviously every gun preference is subjective, so I expect that recommendations may be based on personal favorites. But if you could approach this question from the perspective of someone who is Glock friendly (for the reasons mentioned) and in keeping with ammo availability, I would appreciate whatever input I could get. (and just to to clear, I am NOT looking to go smaller than 9mm) I would appreciate any thoughtful input that I could get. Thanks!
  14. I won't argue that (for the most part). But the converse is also true. Those who take a "hate boy" affiliation... are also vulnerable to ridicule. If Glock isn't your thing, then enjoy your own thing. I don't take offense at anyone disliking my thing, nor do I take offense at them liking their thing. Sh!tting on other people's thing however.... totally mock-worthy! : )
  15. Not to take away from this thread, but I always found it funny that many haters of Glock seem to throw in comments on Glock-related threads.
  16. WOOF Nice doggy. (note to self: always carry Beggin Strips. Bacon bacon bacon!!!)
  17. Oh.... so you're also that guy who shows up at every summer party with your wet dog ; )
  18. And went with a Glock knockoff, of course : )
  19. Case in point re haters. There is no one gun for everyone, so enjoy your S&W M&P.
  20. Similar to NYMetsFan86, I'm also going to follow this thread. I love my Glock (G4/19) as she is, but I'm curious about what others are doing that might compel me to possibly alter her. I have no complaints about the (stock) trigger pull, although I'm somewhat seduced by the idea of taking her all apart to do that trig/polish job. That's a maybe for me.... although I remain hesitant because I haven't been able to do a side-by-side comparison yet. I had added the Crimson Trace Laser Grip, but I dislike that there is no on/off switch, so I've removed it (for now, at least). I may go for some night sights (possibly http://store.speedsights.com/glock ). Other than that, I love my Glock. And I also love that haters hate on them so much : )
  21. Same exact experience. I was impressed with the way that they took ownership of the situation and then squared it away. And High Exposure is 100% correct when he referenced that Universal Truth (although I believe that he may have gotten the number wrong. Doesn't #52 have something to do with stepping in gum on a hot summer day??). Anyway, my rifle has been a nasty little girl ever since, so I couldn't be happier : ) As for the OP....... I'm thinking that maybe you shouldn't have been disassembling and twisting and torquing if it was still under warranty. I can't blame you for doing so, since I'd also be thinking, "Oh, no problem. I got this". But now you may need to follow that all the way through on your own. That said... it never hurts to try arranging for a return. Nothing ventured, nothing gained. So good luck! .
  22. BCM is not perfect either. I had to send back my upper/bcg after having chronic chambering issues (with less than 40 rounds through it). They either neglected to put in an extractor pin, or else it was defective. After more than a dozen misfeeds, jams, and unseated rounds, the extractor and spring eventually ended up at the bottom of the mag. They were good about handling it, but they did not come off looking as SHTF reliable as I had expected.
  23. That's cool bro. You've got an impressive rig. But for some reason the pulling and swapping (or push-pull) of mags seems on be taking on different meanings depending upon who is posting here. Therefore I'll just revert back to my "have fun and enjoy your guns" statement from earlier. I have no aversion to "cool" (or "tacti-cool" or whatever other derogatory terms certain purists like to use). This is America (or something similar to it in NJ). So if you're not Military or LEO, then you have the freedom to do whatever you want with your own property(/guns). As for my own opinion... shoot me. Just remember that my 20 round mag has as many legal rounds in it as any 30 round mag does in this state ; )
  24. Yeah, supply is not issuing anything but metal right now. My buddy is USMC (Weapons Platoon in an infantry regiment) and plastic is NOT supplied or permitted. He only mentioned that no one is happy about that. (and truth be told, Marines are only happy when they have something to bitch about) But I'll ask him tomorrow for more details.
  25. I checked with a buddy of mine (active duty). He says that they have been using 30 round METAL mags for about the past 2 years. No more plastic mags. === I'll add that they hate the metal. === I'll further add that I ONLY had metal mags during my time === I'll further further add that I'm specifically referring to the Marine Corps. I have no idea if it's across all services or not.
