  1. Does the adoption process require home visits and financial information?
  2. Maybe not raping, but definitely copping a feel..
  3. Can't count the number of farms (horse, dairy and agri.) I've seen turned into McMansions, golf courses, apartments and office space. Who remembers Goodie's Hamburgers, Kresge's, the Haunted Mansion, the Peninsula House or the Sandy Hook Nike missile base. How about military drills in Deal? I can recall watching tanks and Jeeps driving down 35 in the 60's.
  4. In NJ, a gun is a weapon whether it's fully assembled, partially assembled or completely disassembled. In any of the three conditions, it is a weapon. Like it or not, that is how NJ defines a firearm. A magazine is a component of a firearm, and as per #2 falls under the category of a component that can be readily attached. If the readily attachable component is loaded, the law can interpret that as a loaded gun. While the law does not explicitly say a loaded magazine (component) which can be quickly inserted into a magwel constitutes a loaded weapon, it is implied. Look man, I don't like it anymore than you do and think it's par for the course concerning NJ's shittlly written laws, but it is the logical conclusion.
  5. I must be in the minority here but I find the saving just as much fun as the buying. I guess the reason it's fun for me is I get more time to window shop and ask questions, learn more and modify/evolve my design spec. Sure, throwing $600 at a PSA bargain build kit (everything but the stripped lower) will get you a no brainer rifle. But what I love is getting the best rifle I can build to my exact specs for the same money. I just save, wait patiently for a sale and snatch up deals as they come along.
  6. Any person of average intelligence may extrapolate from #2 that the components in aggregate (loaded or unloaded) comprise a weapon as defined by NJ. This is the reason we build AR uppers with threaded or 14.5" bbl before we build the lower. If you have a stripped lower receiver and a 14.5"bbl, that counts as a SBR based on constructive intent. If the magazine, a component that can be readily inserted into the assembly, is loaded with ammo (but not inserted into the magwel, then the courts may construe it as part of a loaded weapon. In other words, the NJ definition suggests if you have a firearm (loaded or unloaded), you have a weapon. If ANY component of that weapon (like say a magazine) is loaded, then you have a loaded weapon. The magazine does not have to be inserted into the magwel, it just has to be in proximity to the weapon which it can be inserted. If you walk around with an unloaded pistol and don't have a single round of ammo on you, that is an unloaded weapon. If you walk around with a loaded magazine but no firearm, you do not have a loaded weapon since the components are not all in the same place. Any time a firearm AND loaded magazine are in the same proximity, NJ considers that a loaded weapon.
  7. Don't sweat the facepalms. It's just the way short bussers greet noobs here. It's how they demonstrate how smart and special they are. The question is valid and begs another. If you are caught with a loaded magazine while driving you can pretty much count on being charged with possession of a loaded weapon. Even if the two are locked up in separate compartments. So how about this. If I leave a loaded magazine on my nightstand but my firearms are locked up in the safe, and there are small children in the house, does that count as leaving a "loaded weapon" within easy access of children? Really the question is this; What is considered a loaded firearm and how inaccessible should a loaded firearm (in all forms of interpretation) be from children. With all the vagary of NJ law, and how open it is to whichever way the court decides to interpret it, it's not a dumb question.
  8. For the record, the convoluted social media objective sent a very powerful message when they tried to ban M855. Just say'n.
  9. Is anyone going to R-14 tomorrow (12/30)? I was thinking about going to test out a new build and give my Marlin 39D some attention.
  10. Federal gold match (600yd zero) 77gr has 180 ft-Lbs at 1000yds and drops 302 inches (over 25 feet of drop).
  11. For 1000 yds, you may want to consider building your rifle on an AR-10 lower. .243 Win, 6.5CM, 7mm-08 and of course .308 are all pretty good at long distance shooting. I have plans to build an AR-10 in 243 as a companion to my Ruger American (which will eventually be replaced with a RPR).
  12. You make a good point. Maybe if 50,000 NJ gun owners sent $35 (the same amount as NRA membership) to a well organized legal team, that would bring a $1.75 million war chest to the garden state 2A cause. Maybe ranges should start requiring a donation to the 2A defense fund as a condition for membership. In fact, just drop the NRA membership requirement and mandate a donation to the 2A fund.
  13. If there is a list, it's the same list hundreds of constitutional sheriffs and cops are on. The same list thousands of war vets are on. The same list my shooting buddies are on. Why should THEY be the only ones to stick out their necks? Can I be happy with myself knowing THEY are fighting for my rights while I sit on my skinny ass. The answer is obvious. Stay low, dont make any noise, don't object, don't stand out, we will be safe. That's what millions of jews thought in 1934. At the height of Hitler's reign, less than 10% of germans were Nazis. Coincidentally, the 90% of germans who were not nazis probably had similar thoughts.
  14. Nikola Tesla, the inventor of radio control, called his RC boat, a "drone". EDIT: I did some self fact checking, I was wrong. Tesla did not call the boat a drone, though some news papers may have. He labeled it a tele automatic boat. Drone was in fact adopted by the US military to describe radio control aircraft used for gunnery target practice. I love irony.
  15. Drones can be programmed to depart a set destination, follow a pre-programmed flight path and return to where it departed with the surveillance it collected. That is the VERY definition of drone.
  16. How to build an AR-15 in three easy steps. 1 Decide what your rifles purpose in life will be 2) Select the best barrel you can afford (even if you have to save up) and buy it, 3) Build your rifle around the barrel. You need to select a caliber, chamber, length, profile, twist rate, material and gas system. Once you have that nailed down, the rest of the build will go easier because now you have a starting point. I find it very useful to keep a notebook so I can track what barrel I saw on what site and the price. Then I hit the search engines looking for reviews and forum write ups. I recommend a medium or heavy profile barrel 18" or 20" with a Wylde chamber and a 1:8 twist. Cold hammer forged barrels are great if they are properly stress relieved, beware of cheap CHF barrels though. Stainless steel is very popular among precision rifle builders. Long range shooters prefer a rifle length gas system because it apparently mitigates recoil a little bit. If you go with an 18" bbl you can go with either mid length gas system or rifle length. For a precision rifle you want a precision stock. I'm a fan of fixed stocks for rifles and suggest looking at the ACE ARFX Skeleton stock. The LOP on these stocks can be modified with permanently attached butt plates Whether you go fixed or adjustable collapsible, you are looking at $100 to $300 for a really good stock.
  17. I need a little help here. I'm putting together a Christmas gift basket for my mother with Balvene 18 y/o (Speyside) and Aberlour 18 y/o (Islay) scotches and need some ideas for tasty snacks that pair well. Since the two scotches are different I'd imagine that what goes well with one may not necessarily go with the other. I was thinking smoked oysters, black caviar and cocktail toast. I'm not a scotch drinker but I have tasted it. It seems like they would go well. That's not enough though, I want to really stuff the basked so I need some more ideas. This is where you come in. What's your favorite kibbles n bits with scotch. One caveat though, it has to come in a tin or a jar and have a long shelf life or be otherwise non-perishable.
  18. Good choice on that GP, on the S&W too. I had an opportunity to shoot the 617 4" last year, it felt good in the hand and shot very nice.
  19. I know. I was just pulling your leg for a chuckle . Bulls Eye Tactical Supply in Edison.
  20. Well, it's going to be a gift but I'll ask my friend after he opens it on christmas if you can borrow it.
  21. BO is laying the groundwork for a post presidency career with Bloomberg (or some other anti-2A group). BO will go on to make hundreds of thousands, perhaps millions, of dollars in the anti-2A industry.
