  1. The black "pro" ones did not impress me at all. They only had maybe 500 more mAh and were more than twice the price. $5 per battery I think, not a good value.. I'll have to take a second look at Costco's website and look at the Pana batteries.
  2. The $100 Eneloop starter setup. Been shopping around for Eneloop deals. It seems that Costco is no longer carrying this battery line, it's listed as "no longer available" on the website. Battery Junction seems to have decent prices compared to Target and Wally World. Out of all the kits and combos, this is what I put together as a starter kit. I'm going to get this for myself and my family secret santa (which is actually a bitch slap santa). So for one hundred smackers (more or less), this is the line up. Starter kit with 8 AA, 2 AAA, 2 C adapters, 2 D adapters, wall charger. $34- Charger with 4 AA Batteries $18- Adapter 4 C cell $10- Adapter 4 D cell $10- AAA 12 pack $25- GT $97- So, for about $100 this should keep all the important battery powered stuff well fed.
  3. The Battery Showdown This is pretty cool. It's a somewhat scientific comparative analysis of 40 different batteries http://www.batteryshowdown.com/index.html
  4. We usually buy Duracell and Energizer and occasionally some other known non premium brand like Ray-O-Vac. But man they get costly. I've tried a few off brand bargain batteries and never had much success with them, just cheap MIC crap. But I've got to wonder though, is there an off brand (or store brand) battery that can stack up against the top name brands? I'm looking at Harbor Freight now and see they have batteries at a not too bad price, and I'm sure I've seen similar deals at Tractor Supply. Have any of y'all tried/tested these lesser known brands and if so how did they work out?

    masks

The only child size masks I've seen are made by the Israelis. They can be found at a few online army/navy stores..
  6. 300 BLK could be fun but I think the next logical progression is an SPR. Another possibility, just for fun, is to build a dedicated 22LR AR.
  7. As much as I hate to admit this, I think I'm incorrect about the seam welding requirement. I could swear that I read that last year when I was looking into compliance. So after looking at the ATF site I will go along and agree that fusion seam welding, silver solder or blind pin are all legitimate methods as long as the length from breech to the exit of the device is 16" or greater. . Still, I have this nagging voice telling me that seam welding is a requirement for barrels under 16".
  8. No. To make a 14.5" BBL meet the NON NFA standards the device must become part of the barrel and the only way to do that is to weld the seam as described. I'm sure many folks have 14.5" BBLs with pinned devices that came from the retailer that way and have no problems but if the issue was ever forced, I believe it would be determined that they do not meet the federal standard for compliance.
  9. The way I read the regulation.... 16" BBL = Pin and blind weld, or solder or weld the device to the BBL 3/4 the way around. 14.5" BBL = Just weld the device to the BBL 3/4 the way around. On a 16" or better BBL most opt for the least expensive easy way which is blind pin. This method also happens to be, more or less, reversible. All of the methods are reversible to an extent, and the extent being access to a machine shop or lots of money to have the work done. Though I have no choice in the matter, I do not like the fact that welding the device to the BBL will change things. It will alter harmonics, sometimes for the better, sometimes not so much. If the harmonics get whacky or the heat from welding creates tension it will F accuracy. Once that sucker is on there, there's no practical way of going back. May as well start over with a new BBL.
  10. Right, the device must be welded to the barrel, where the two meet, with a bead around the perimeter at least 3/4 the way around. In essence, doing this makes the device part of the barrel instead of attached to the barrel.
  11. My next build will be an M4 type carbine. I want to put a 14.5" BBL on it with a Levang linear comp. It is my understanding that the 14.5" barrel with a "permanently attached" muzzle device, bringing the overall length of the barrel just over 16 inches, is not subject to NFA regulation. So the question is, can I order a 14.5" BBL and have it shipped to my house or does it need to have the comp already installed before it can be shipped to me? Technically the barrel is an NFA item but once the comp is installed it is no longer NFA, so there is that period of "limbo" I'm concerned about.
  12. Are you old man Peters and live in the abandoned saw mill?
  13. A few years ago I created a haunted yard. To accompany the gruesome props, I made five soundscapes ranging from frightening to silly. They were originally rendered in Dolby 5.1 for the surround sound system I set up in the yard. Lots of wind, crows, and generally creepy stuff to set the perfect Halloween mood. I put them up on Youtube so others could use them. The YT recording is only stereo but it still sounds terrific. Here are links to a couple of the recordings. My YT channel name is Muahahahaaaaaa
  14. Give each new set of prospective parents a form to fill out. On that form will be the exact same questions one will find on an application for a NJFID. Watch them sweat.
  15. Compared to a 12GA or a 30-06, 5.56 recoil is like a little girl pushing on your shoulder. You don't even have to be manly to handle it.
  16. NJ State will never give up the P2P process. It's their only means of a gun registry without calling it a gun registry.
  17. The way that funeral home was set up, I think it may have been a trap. I still can't believe Daryl let down his guard and just opened the door like that. Guess it had to go down that way or else there would not be a story.
  18. Daryl and Carol reunion, lots of hugs, no kisses. Daryl and Beth's drinking games, not even one attempt of taking advantage of the situation. Conclusion. Daryl is the ultimate gentleman, or.......well, yanno.
  19. sales at woodburyoutfitters should do the trick
  20. I placed two orders with them. The first was over the internet, the second by phone the following day. I received a confirmation and an order number by e-mail immediately after the internet order was placed which can be used to track the progress. That order still shows "some items picked" and has not shipped. The order I placed over the phone the day after arrived today, no e-mail confirmation or anything. So that's how my orders have worked out so far. Also, just a heads up, they ship FedEx and require a signature.
  21. The only regulation, or training as it were, needed here is that people are taught to be decent human beings from the time they are born. No amount of firearms regulation or training will change a drug dealers career choice, or prevent domestic violence or change the mind of someone determined to commit a murder-suicide. Training will not stop criminals from obtaining firearms. That is the fatal flaw in this argument. The root of the problem has always been social. Our government has allowed this great nation to fall into a spiral of social decay by placating every liberal faction. The bleeding heart liberals have chipped away at conservative values which promote responsibility and accountability to the point where there is no longer a sound foundation from which many children today can go through childhood on a stable platform. When children are raised wrong and grow up to be irresponsible adults, the liberals say it's not their fault. The consequence of this is that we have a few generations now that believe they can do anything they want with little to no consequences because society (or "the village" made them that way and it's the village's fault, not theirs.
  22. I never said it makes sense or was normal. What I'm saying is that the NRA just might want this to happen because they have much to gain from it and if it does happen, what happens next. The world is not a simple place, you have to think about all contingencies. That's all I'm saying.
  23. Discussing this with a friend at the range today and another thought occurred to me. Let's say the NRA gets behind this (or at the very least does not oppose it) the bill gets passed, we have two or three years of noobs getting trained by NRA instructors and some join the NRA. THEN... The great state of NJ decides they do not want the NRA doing the training anymore, they change it to NJ state based training only. So now the anti 2A NJ gov't will have had it's cake and eaten it too. The bill sticks as a law but the NRA gets cut out of the loop.
  24. Just had a thought. Knowing how evil and manipulative politicians are..... Maybe this was designed to drive a wedge between NJ gun owners and the NRA. You know if the NRA backs this that many members will be left with a bad BAD taste in their mouths.
