  1. Offered for sale here is a full size metal frame crossbow from Killer Instinct. It is the Ripper 415 model, capable of 465 FPS with a 220# draw weight. It has a six position butt stock and a 15" power stroke. It comes with a 4x32 illuminated scope, 4 bolts (3 with field tips and 1 with a blade tip), and a light vinyl carry bag with a drawstring.
Also included is a Black Hole 18 four sided archery target that has filler to stop both field tip and blade tip bolts. A simple web search on either of these items will give you all the details of each and what they are worth, about $400.00 new, by my best guess. All is in excellent to like new condition.
Price is $175.00 and I am in Linden, N.J. 07036; cash only at pick up. I am willing to drive 30 - 40 minutes to meet you.
First to reply I'll take it wins the whole lot.

  2. I could use a little help with this handgun. In order to remove the top slide the pin on top must be pressed to retain the slide spring, I believe. My problem is that the mechanism attached to the pin is broken or disconnected UNDER the slide and I can't figure out how to remove the slide. (the pin just sits there and jiggles, seems like nothing is connected to it)

Is anyone aware of a DIY fix, or is this an issue for a pro gunsmith?

           Thanks

  3. OK, WOW!!  Thanks guys.

Here's where I am; I did rechamber and refire the crap out of them. About half did fire after 4 or 5 strikes. The rest I did knock down and put one case in a soft faced vise and hit it with a pointed set. It took quite a shot but it did fire. All deprimed with no incident.   (why am I reminded of the VERY old Bill Cosby routine about how he put a bullet in the furnace in shop class!!!?)

So, I did take closer up pics which are attached but at this point I am thinking that it is the hardness of the primers. As for the other 300 or so I already loaded they will go to the range with me and I will cycle them and see what happens. Nothing to lose at this point of the game. Will update as progress or lack thereof occurs.

         Thanks, again, guys.

  4. Last time I was in Pa. , five weeks ago, I bought 400 small rifle primers (at two different retail stores) as no SPPs were available at either .......WHAT A SHOCK!!!!!  I have formerly used SRPs in place of SPPs in my 38 special loads with no problem whatsoever. Usually, CCIs over 4 grns. Bullseye for the Xtreme 125 plated RNFP, and 2.9 grn. Bullseye for the 148 grn. WCs. Both of these are nice loads that work well for me. So, imagine my surprise when about 40 of the 70 rounds I fired did not go bang!!! First failure was through an older Rossi with a 3" bbl, so I tried my S&W model 67 4" bbl, also an older handgun, with similar results. Next was the Ruger Match Champion about two years old (maybe 1000 rounds down the bbl) also sketchy, but better than the older guns. I have seen posts about the different composition of primers, SPPs vs. SRPs but have not heard of or seen this discussion/problem. Anyone else have an experience like this?  Don't know if you can see it but all are good primer strikes! Cases are mixed headstamps, some new starline brass!!!

  7. Quote

Am working on Hornady 125 gr XTPs  in different powders to see the difference in accuracy, if any or much. Once fired Starline brass (soft original load) and the load data I find asks for a COL of 1.455". That seems to have the crimp hit just a scad short of the cannelure on the projectile. (the bullet seems to wants to be set deeper into the case to have the crimp centered in the cannelure) Suggestions, comments?

And a general question,  I was taught to use as little crimp as possible on 38 special cases. Some reloaders don't crimp them at all if they are soft loads. How drastically does a heavy crimp effect the pressure of the discharged round? I would imagine a heavier crimp would tend to retain the projectile more and cause a higher pressure inside the case? Is that significant?

  10. OK, Here we go! I have been into reloading (.. generally, .. successfully, ... still with 19 or so appendages/digits) for about 12 years now. Basically, 9, 38, 40S&W, and 45- 3 types. I do well and am pleased with my results; I stay within guidelines and don't get too creative. I have availed myself of the wealth of info available on the net and in published manuals. ( I give a particular shout out to Cast Boolits) In light of events recently I have modernized/upgraded my equipment and still try to keep it simple; I do like the Lee products for obvious reasons. I also track roughly the number of rounds that I load. ( currently, completed around 15 - 20 thousand rounds, over the course of those 12 years) [.. and still with 19 or so ...] In my modernization I have attempted to concentrate on quality, ... rather than quantity. I have singled out 38 special as it is my favorite caliber and what I shoot the most of. I can regularly build a round that 10 out of 20 will hit the scoring rings of a 25 yard target, at 25 yards, from a sand bag, with the balance still on the 8 1/2 x 11 target paper. If I could shoot free hand like this I would be a Merc!!!!

NOW!! Here we go. I would like to pick the brains of the best out there and start a dialogue possibly about how different aspects of the reloading process effect performance of the round. I really WOULD like to limit the talk to the 38 special and we are talking bullseye type target shooting here at 25 yards. I'm not particularly asking for load data or what you shoot successfully; I am very curious as to whether anyone has any info on some of the more elusive and non published info; how does powder brand/ variation of charge  ( 3.2 grns Bullseye vs. 2.9 grns on a 148 gr. wadcautter)  (crimping in the groove, over the end)  ( HP 38 vs. Universal)  Does the powder brand/charge/crimp effect velocity that will engage the rifling and just HOW! HOW MUCH DIFFERENCE does a CCI primer make as compared to a Remington? Will you get a "fall off" .. wider spread .. "flyer" ...??  For example, I have recently learned that 38 special cases with a double cannulure were manufactured as wad cutter cases! (thinner wall, and interior stop?) When you load a wad cutter in a "heavy" (thicker) Winchester or Remington case, and run it through the factory crimp/sizer you can "feel" it being squished down. This has to effect engagement of the rifling in the barrel? Considering the different burn rates, ignoring what "everyone likes" how do you select a powder for a 125 grain rnfp bullet?  Did anyone ever get this nutso crazy or is it just me?  ..................  Oh! .. and while you are at it, could you solve world hunger, ... and take care of the reloading primer situation!

I personally shoot a S&W 586   6" bbl,    Ruger Match Champion 4' BBl. ,    S&W Mod 67 4" bbl    and a Rossi Mod 52 3" bbl.  From these I draw my data.  I have used new Starline brass, once fired and new Remington and Winchester brass,  plusP nickel brass, and "wad cutter brass" from Winchester, Federal, and Remington. I regularly load X-treme 125 gr rnfp and coated 148 gr wad cutters over Bullseye, 231, HP38, Titegroup, and Universal in the specified load ranges. Have experimented with other bullet brands and weights but no real difference. In my modernization I am also using a Hornady powder trickler and digital scale.

.... PANT, ...PANT, ... PANT!!!!    Done, now!

            ..... am I expecting too much ....?

                      Thanks, Guys
