When I first saw this thread I thought it was some latecomer comment to the earlier suicide. It's difficult to believe this has happened twice
This is shocking and tragic for everyone involved.
I was just thinking that now that my business has slowed down for the holidays I would take a day to go to RTSP, which is the only range I go to.
But admittedly this is disconcerting and you wonder if those similarly inclined begin to identify RTSP as the suicide range.
As much as I like the facility and people who work there it gives you pause
-
The Ruger sr22 was my first gun and a great entry level gun imo.
I always recommend renting the ones you think you'd like to buy. Try before you buy. I've changed my mind more than once. RTSP has a pretty good selection.
Good luck.

Read today that the last gun store in San Francisco is closing it's doors.
It had opened in 1952 and been the only gun store in the city since 1999.
New requirements would have; 1) had them videotape every individual sale and 2) report all ammo purchases to the police.
Just the straw that broke the camel's back
-
As someone who has been to RTSP (and expects to go again) I have no problem with the new rules. I think they strike the right balance.
-
Renting guns, I would guess, is an important source of revenue for ranges like RTSP and I doubt it will change. An 18 min. video; chat with a range officer, you're good to go (figuratively speaking).

Is possessing a FID (or someone in the group possessing a FID) before you rent common sense. Or is that "crazy talk".
-
do you have a suggestion?......"common sense rental restrictions"?...."universal background checks prior to rental"?....its always a sad thing when someone chooses suicide as their only option....but what can a business do without being ridiculous?....in the last 10 years i can count on one hand events like this in this area....yet what about those that choose to od on prescription pills or hang themselves as their method?....id say the ratio is 10,000 to one yet i don't hear people suggesting the pharmaceutical industry should "find a better way"....or stopping rope or belt sales
I should clarify. My fear is that this individual may decide to take someone with him. That's not going to be the case with hangings or od's. Or his first shot goes awry and hits the poor schlub standing next to him.
You want to kill yourself you'll find a way. Just don't involve me because I decided to visit the range the same day you did.

I really hate these stories. I understand the desire of the range owners to act as diplomats of the sport and rent guns to the general public. But it does serve as a magnet of sorts to someone who's mentally unbalanced and couldn't otherwise obtain a gun or just wants to go out in a very public way.
There's got to be a better way.
(I know I'm assuming they were a renter but I believe that has been the case in other range suicides)
-
Did he rent? I thought rstp required 2 people to rent
I've rented handguns there by myself

There was an article in the Hunterdon County Democrat back in February
If this is for real the website needs work. I like tongue-in-cheek but this is ridiculous.
From a design standpoint the website sucks...it's really bad!

The folks in the aisle seats come early, never move once, have long gangly legs or big bellies and stay to the bitter end of the performance. The aisle people also are very surly folk.

Gun shows at schools!?!?! Think of the children!!!
Hey when I was in high school (late 60's) there was a gun club. They sometimes actually brought their guns to school and left them in their lockers until the meeting after school

It's been over 4 years since this project started. I know from some of the posts that results have been provided to NJ2AS, although how recently I don't know. I can't find anything on their website. Can anyone provide
a link where the results of this survey have been posted. Apologies if it's already somewhere in this thread. I didn't review all 30+ pages of posts

What model?
-
Just bought 2,500 rounds - various calibers - at Bulkammo.com. No problem; very nice to deal with. They just want your FID on file
-
Recommendations welcome
9MM would be my choice. Pistol caliber carbines are great to plink with. Unless your set on the Hi Point or constrained by budget, I would look into other options as well. Not particularly please with Hi Point quality or function. The bolt / extractor system used on this carbine is less than sturdy / reliable.
-
My next purchase is going to be the Hi Point 995TS. I like the idea of having a rifle that fires typical handgun ammo since I already have a lot of that. Question now is 9mm or 40SW.
Leaning toward the 40SW but need to hear from other owners. Thanks

I had it done last July. No big deal. I also took the standard monofocal lenses. Doc wanted $5,000 extra for the multi-focal lenses. If you're getting it done do a little research. Some people say it takes a period of time for your eyes to adjust
to the multifocal lenses and there are some who say that they never adjusted.
I still need reading glasses but you can get them at Walgreens - no big deal.
-
And now begins the run on ammo...all ammo.

I wonder what the reason for the search was in the first place? It's not normal for a cop to make a routine stop and demand to search a vehicle. Something here isn't adding up to me. I have a feeling there's more to this story we haven't heard. Just my hunch though. And we all know I hate our gun laws here, as much as anyone else that's not a criminal. I would really like to read the discovery myself before I donate anything.
Agree. There seem to be parts of this narrative that don't add up, nevertheless, this felony charge is not consistent with federal law regarding antique guns. Just ridiculous!
Never consent to search. Never volunteer information. Never give up your 4th amendment rights. Never pass your CCW card (as a PA resident) with your DL unless you are in a state that requires it. Never listen to "experts" that tell you otherwise. There is a special place in hell reserved for people who advise others to give up their 4th amendment rights.
Never, never. Don't consent and don't answer any questions. Demand to know what the probable cause is and your lack of cooperation for asserting your 4th amendment rights does not rise to the level of probable cause.
He should have told that officer to bring the dog.

Now admittedly I don't know a lot about this issue but am I correct that the reason we don't have gun shows in NJ is due to the so called gun show loophole.
I was just reading an article about the myth of the gunshow loophole which basically states that FFL's are still required to do NICS checks at gun shows so that whether they're in their store or at a gunshow that have to the same background checks and maintain all the same documentation.
The so called loophole would only cover the individual (non FFL) who rents a table and sells from their collection.
Is any of this correct? If so why can't you have a gun show that allowed FFL's to sell?
What exactly is the law re: gun shows in NJ?

Count me in!

Once Christie leaves office and we get the inevitable Democrat successor what anti-firearms bills will be on the wish list of the Dems.
I'm kind of assuming the 15 round mag bill will be first on the agenda.
What else can we expect will be offered and voted into law?
