  1. I ordered one from Sportsman's Rendezvous in Flemington in mid-March. Just came in last Friday, and I picked it up on Sat (no NICS on Fri due to holiday). Haven't had a chance to shoot it yet. Waiting a month was agonizing, and it cost more than I really wanted to pay ($700) but it DID happen. And once you add shipping, shipping insurance, and FFL transfer fees, it was about the same price out the door as a $650 one online. Craig from Sportsman's Rendezvous was very nice and helpful with the whole process (my first handgun purchase in the crazy state of NJ). Efingers had a waiting list, but they wanted $720 for it, and, as far as I know, still haven't gotten them in. Jim Flynn initially said 2-3 weeks, but when I called after 3 weeks, he just said "Not yet. Call back again in 2-3 weeks. No real ETA, though." He only wanted $620 for it though, which is the best real price I saw for it.
  2. I'm trying to. Just got the call today that my 5" PPQ is on its way after a month of waiting. There will be another PPQ in Hillsborough soon.If only I had a good, reasonbly nearby place to shoot it...
  3. The P-38 Lightning, one of the platforms displaying the greatness of Kelly Johnson.
  4. No. JoshShootsStuff said you can "just show up", but their website suggests that you should sign up early, because the classes fill up. When I was there at the March meeting, there was a green sign-up sheet, so I signed up there for the April classes. Still not sure how you'd do it without being there in person; I never did get a response to my questions submitted electronically. Sorry for the delay in responding.
  5. Thanks for the list & descriptions. Noob follow-up questions... Stance - How do you hold your arms... both locked, both slightly bent, one locked? Do you adjust your stance for one-handed shooting? Grip - Where do you put the index and middle fingers of your weak-side hand... around the grip, under the trigger guard, front side of trigger guard? Which thumb do you put on top? How tightly do you grip it? Do you push with your strong hand, and pull with the weak hand? Do you place your strong hand differently for one-handed shooting? Sight alignment - Both eyes open, but sights lined up with the dominant eye, right? Trigger Control - What part of your finger do put on the trigger... pad, or first joint, or other? Does your finger move/slide laterally across the face of the trigger while firing, or is that discouraged? Follow through - Any technique suggestions? Something's got to give when the gun moves... do you want to bend/move at the wrists, or elbows, or shoulders? (Or conversely, what parts do you try to keep "locked"?) What are common noob mistakes? I would guess things like jerking the trigger, or flinching in anticipation of the break, but are there others to watch out for? I'm taking the NRA Basic Pistol class this weekend, which includes range time, so that may answer many of my questions, but I'm also curious what experienced shooters think & do, in case that differs from what's taught in the class.
  6. I went to the meeting on Wed., because I'm interested in joining. They're in the midst of changing the membership process, so it's going to take a (long) while. Now you can't get the application at the monthly meeting, you get it at the safety class (although, how you sign up for the safety class without going to a meeting is unclear to me, since they didn't respond to my request for information sent through their website). So, now the process is... take safety & range rules classes 4/5 & 4/8, fill out application, get 2 signatures, pay money, then first reading at May meeting, then second reading at June reading, & pay more money. That's assuming I get my FPID card back before the May meeting (who would have guessed that a change-of-address on an FPID card could take months?). That's also assuming that I can actually make it to both the May & June meetings. So, there I am, in person at the club on March 5th, and they're telling me that, best case scenario, I might able to be a member by June. They seem like nice folks, and I'm still interested, but it's fair to say that my excitement has waned somewhat.
