Crossfit is as good as it gets for general health and growing attitude that you can deal with whatever life is going to throw at you. Have to find a good coach who will know how to train older people. Here is some inspiration - There is online crossfit journal and forum with a lot of advice how to start and avoid injuries. If crossfit is not an option then jogging/running/swimming can be done practically at any time. Find a running club in the area, they will help a lot because running is better when you have somebody to talk to, believe it or not. And it will be easier to stick to running. About time to exercise. I know running and crossfit multi-kids moms with full time jobs who wake up at 4-5am in the morning to run or do exercises. If there is a will there is a way.
  2. I ordered handgun from them recently. There were no issues, everything was on time and as expected.
  3. Most of my friend's reactions ranges from terrifying 'whom do you plan to kill?' (from very conservative crowd btw) to total lack of interest. They are probably tired hearing about all things I already enthusiastically do I went to a shooting range with one friend and he applied for fpid next day though.
  4. I bought them some time ago. These are easily the worst .22lr rounds ever. Why do they even bother to make them?
  5. I have a different experience. I shoot in manual mode for many years and actually never even tried any other mode myself in my current batch of cameras. My kids once in a while ask to photograph something, so I switch cameras to auto mode for them. Every time I am surprised that results are near perfect even in challenging lighting scenarios. Digital cameras went a long way in this short amount of time.
  6. While it is technically correct, it is not very useful in practice. "Everybody" has a point of reference to 35mm film camera lenses; even medium format lens manufactures add "Equivalent 35mm Focal Length" to specifications to make it easy to compare one to another between different formats. Of course world would be a much better place if somebody in the past thought about it for five minutes and come up with a measure that is based on size of field of view but it did not happen. Fisheye lenses would be difficult to define there though. And lenses that work for more than one format of cameras will be as hard to compare as it is now.
  7. It is 7 something inches completely extended and way cheaper than $12k - http://www.dpreview.com/previews/panasonic_14_2p5_100-300_4-5p6/2 And you can easily go even smaller without reducing quality much with compacts that have more than 1000mm zooms and 1" sensors.
  8. To show real world example here is an image that is taken at 600mm (relatively small camera) from across of full sized stadium: [safe to open crowd] - https://flic.kr/p/c6UEc7
  9. About taking pictures secretly. Here is one taken from several hundred meters away with relatively short 100mm lens. I bet nobody in the picture saw me or considered me as a "soul capturing photo" threat. Original file has enough resolution that I found a couple of my friends in the middle of the crowd. I would use still compact and unassuming 600mm lens on 4/3 camera to take full length portraits from the same distance if my goal would be to secretly photograph anyone in there. I will be right there in the open and you will never see me. [safe to open beach scene] - https://flic.kr/p/pveC8P
  10. I was teasing. I imagine Achromatic+ costs well into $50k+ territory with camera and some cheap lens. Idea behind this digital back is great though. Camera's digital sensors are able to record more than just a visible light but also some UV and a IR. That's why most sensors have IR filters on top of them [and then anti-aliasing filter]. Achromatic back can be ordered without any filters on top of the sensor. You will need to use external filters to record desired light range. IR photography with this back is no brainer. But yeah, digital medium format is out of reach for most photographers.
  11. Ebay or craigslist or some specialized IR funs forum for film? Some people make changes to digital cameras to shoot IR. And there is always Phase One Achromatic+ in IR configuration
  12. Where is like button when one need it
  13. I did very similar thing as Vlad G. We had 'Civilian defense' classes at school (about 13-14 y.o.) and had to shoot as part of the class. We had a shooting range in the basement in the school, and everything was very well organized thanks to good teachers. We did not get much to shoot though because of luck of ammo. .22lr was on a short supply in USSR Teachers also had to destroy empty cartridges and count them. 100 in, 100 out. Later we shot ak-47 at the real range, about 10 rounds, also as part of the class.
  14. Assuming you have FPID, you buy rifle online, put your home address for shipping and billing and give them a dealer data who will do FFL transfer for you. They will ship to a dealer (Steven in my case), and you will pick it up from there.
  15. My 15-22 is 'out for delivery'. That was fast considering how primitive their website is. I predict I will see Steve tonight
  16. Well, I will know soon enough if this deal for real
  17. At Hoffman's for $340 shipped. I did a little bit of research about company and they seems to be a good company.
  18. I went with 5" because it is primarily range gun for me. It is a kinda big gun.
  19. "you" was not personal. In my context "you" is anybody who cannot even dream about change. Apologies for not making it clearer. Even in our short life times people went through several mind blowing cultural changes that seemed to be impossible just shortly before. And those changes often started with a will of a very small group of people. I see many examples where new laws are introduced as result of actions and will of a single person. Unfortunately those examples are usually have pattern - tragedy, suffering of loss, will to act, action, restrictive law In my opinion it is a wrong and losing way of making new laws but it shows that everything is possible.
  20. It will never happen here because even you do not believe in your dream. But blaming someone else about it is so convenient.
  21. Congratulations and enjoy! I and my wife became citizens last year after twelve years of somewhat bumpy journey.
  22. I am sure Glocks are fine handguns but there is something in the name that turns me off. I have zero interest in even trying one. I thought about this for a while but could not come up for any good reason why I do not like name Glock. The only reference I came up with is bad alien Glock from old russian cartoon. This must be a reason Good thing there are great alternatives to Glocks out there.
  23. Dave, thank you for your help. Improvements are immediate and I though I am a slow learner. Your report is nothing but amazing.
  24. I am a fresh probie at obrpc and went into one of the obrams events. It took a whole day but it was a great fun. Shooting all kind of tricky targets are much more interesting than killing paper. I also got some great help from members. I used to plan a week ahead trips to shoreshot because it is kind of long affair. Now I just go to range when I feel like it. I also took my wife and older kid to shoot at the range and they liked it a lot. Do not know if it is any interest for you but there are no restrictions on how often your immediate family can come with you to the range. You need family membership only if they want to visit club without you. This makes membership fee a bargain for me right away. So far I am very happy I joined obrpc.
  25. I know basics and are doing sight picture #2. But results are all over the place if I manage to even hit. One thing that I realized is that I shot ppq from somewhat longer distance (10+ yards) than most of my other shooting with 9mm + caliber. I will try to start over from much shorter distance.
