  1. 299 Days by Glen Tate is also very good. It is a series. I believe he is up to book #7 now. GA

    Other Gear

I think the most likely scenario I would find myself in is getting stuck on route 78 or 287 for hours because of an accident or road closure. I keep a Jetboil camping stove in the car, with the french press coffee kit, packets of dry creamer, water, and enough coffee grounds to make 4 cups of coffee. If you know you are going to be stuck on the highway for a long time (especially in the winter), you can't put a price on being able to make yourself a nice hot cup of coffee while you wait it out. GA
  3. At the gas station by me, there was a 3 hour line. When it was finally my turn, I watched someone drive into the exit for the gas station, pull up to pumps (cut in front of the 3 hour line), take gas, and drive off without paying. GA
  4. Mine is the Leatherman Skeletool CX right now.... http://www.leatherman.com/19.html#start=21 GA
  5. My biggest lessons from Sandy were to get a propane generator (to avoid the gas lines), and the need for battery powered motion and light sensors so there was still some security. I'm still working on the propane generator part! GA
  6. Polak - I could kick myself everyday for not going 5 miles further..... GA
  7. Hi All, I just found this forum yesterday and already have learned a lot of great things. I live close to the PA border, so am very interested in all of the various laws for transport, purchase, etc. I'll probably also join in on any conversations around the outdoors, hiking, gardening, or prepping. Looking forward to learning as much as I can. GA
  8. I have hiked all over the White Mountains of NH. The best hiking boots I have used are the Merrell Reflex Mid-GoreTex boots. Cabelas has them for around $140.00. 4.6 stars with over 500 ratings. GA

    Mr Beams

I have had these installed throughout the house for the past 2 years and they work GREAT. The outdoor ones work well also and have a great battery life. If you take a Mr. Beams outdoor light and a MURS sensor, and put it near your generator it is a great way to help deter generator theft, and alert to you when someone is near it. GA
  10. We have several heat backups in place (Two is one, one is none). 1. Recently purchased wood stove. One of the best preps I have purchased. 2. Gas fireplace 3. Pellet stove 4. Big Buddy heater with 1 lb fuel canisters and 20 lb adapter kit. 5. Backyard firepit The wood stove and gas fireplace can both work without electricity. The pellet stove requires electricity, but I built a 200AH battery backup for it if needed. GA
  11. Hi All, I am new to this forum, so someone may have mentioned this already. We use MURS sensors around our house. When something moves past the sensor, inside the house we hear "Alert Zone 1" or "Alert Zone 2", etc. Security is always about buying yourself time. For me, the best solution is: 1. MURS sensors 2. Door braces 3. Alarm 4. Dog 5. Deadbolt on bedroom door 6. Firearms 7. Martial arts GA
