  1. I remember that ad. It was aimed at BMW and M-B owners who'd found out the hard way, that a boring 3 box family sedan can't compensate for anything.
  2. Governor Tomblin's veto of H.B. 4145 has apparently been overridden. WV will be a constitutional carry state. Tell me again why we're trying to get rid of justifiable need. We need to refocus our efforts and work toward becoming a truly free state. As more states move toward "Vermont carry" the idea of reciprocity becomes obsolete. Maybe this is how we rejoin the rest of the country.

  5. That may be the best idea I've ever seen on this forum. That's the only reason for the pardons. I've seen stories about a couple other arrests in the last couple years, often just a couple paragraphs buried in the back pages of a local paper. The handful of pardons went to the high profile cases, the single mom, the guy who came to lend a hand after a storm, the CO, etc, those are all human interest pieces that attract media attention. The truck driver who got in an argument with his buddy didn't get much press, and he didn't get a pardon. They know these absurd laws won't survive public scrutiny so the high profile cases "go away." It's stupid enough to work because it's easy to implement and has no downside. There's been a little talk over the years of carrying at the statehouse in defiant protest, that has a downside, I like my freedom and don't want to use my next few dozen mortgage payments for legal fees. Apply to be denied had potential, but nobody could guarantee there wouldn't be a downside when applying for future permits, etc. Both of these things, had they seen the light of day, were likely to suffer from low turnout. OTOH, with this, there's not much chance of arrest as long as we behave ourselves and no implications the next time we want an addition to the safe. No real expenses, just an afternoon or something. The uniform thing made me think of "Alice's Restaurant" but it's a nice touch. The thing is, we want to look as non-confrontational as possible so maybe go for the "everyman" look, Jeans and a black t-shirt. The yellow banana would really stand out. Might also want to have multiple locations (simultaneously, of course) since not everyone will want to go to Trenton. We need numbers, come up with a plan that makes it easy to get involved and we have a better chance of actually getting those numbers.
  6. In for 2. The code came up as free shipping on $99, not $50, but 2 cases covers it either way. Now all I need is to put something in the gun cabinet that can use them.
  7. I've been seeing Fiocchi 9mm on sale for $10.99/box somewhat frequently. I've jumped on it a couple times in the last year. No point spending $.216 for aluminum cased when you can get reloadable brass for $.004 more.
  8. I've got that case, picked it up a year or two for the same price. Like Splat, I'd just finished my first build and liked the idea of a decent hard case for the same price as a middle of the road soft case. I'm very happy with it, it's a solid case for the price. Not quite a Pelikan, but closer than I expected, and at a fraction of the price.
  9. Drop it off in person and have the camera running. The extra form is not legal and needs to be documented.
  10. Doesn't seem likely, unless there's a lot more to the story. OTOH, as much as non of us wants to be the test case, our best chance is for arrests like this to happen and there being enough "public outrage" that maybe a few of NJ's screwed up laws can be unscrewed.
  11. So I had a bright idea about re-doing the interior of the boat over the winter, at the rate I'm going it'll be done a by next winter. Two of the projects involve foam and I've been reading about foam for 2 weeks but haven't found the information I need. One of the projects is the dinette. The upholstery isn't bad, but the foam is shot so it's like sitting on plywood. We got some material and will be replacing the fabric but I haven't figured out what foam I need. I've dissected a couple of cushions and the base is 3/4" plywood with 2" foam and a few layers of cotton looking stuff over it. As is often the case on a boat, the table drops down and a filler cushion turns the dinette into a third bed. The filler cushion is in great shape so I hadn't planned to replace it, this means I need to stick with the same height for the cushions so it all matches. Besides, I'm willing to assume the 2" foam was adequate when it was new, so it should be enough now, right? The other foam project is the forward bunk, This is my bed and I spend 60-80 nights per year in it so I want it pretty nice. This also has 2" foam and I bottom out on it. The aft cabin has the same foam and it's in much better shape, so I know it could be done in 2 inch again. Still, I'd like to do better than that, but I know it can be done in 2" if I use the right foam. I got through last summer by adding a piece of carpet padding under the foam and putting on a memory foam topper. I really didn't like the memory foam. I'm willing to go with thicker foam if it will help. The design of the bunk includes a "flange," for lack of a better term, around the outside edge that would lend itself to having a 3/4 or 1 inch foam underneath a thicker, top layer. I'm thinking of a bottom layer of firmer foam covered by 2" of medium foam. It seems like a good idea to me, but I know nothing about this stuff. Like I said, I've been reading about foam for a couple weeks. I've got a basic understanding of density and ILD, but no idea what numbers I need to use so my butt isn't on the plywood anymore. Full disclosure; I'm not skinny, in case it makes a difference. Is an ILD of 35 enough for a 2" seat cushion? 40? 50?? For the bed, same thing, 35? 40? 2 inches or 3? All one foam, or put something firmer under it? Any help would be appreciated, I seem to have confused myself.
  12. The NRA has never been very good at basing their ratings on actual facts. They probably will give him a bump, and it will be due to the fact that he made CCW easier. Every chance I get...
  13. Don't be too quick to rule out other calibers, My wife hates my Sccy CPX-2, it's a <1 lb compact and it has a bit of kick. OTOH, she loves our 1911s, all .45ACP, because they are much easier to handle. I don't mind the Sccy so much, but I've gotta admit my hand is pretty sore after 150-200 rounds. I have no idea what experience you have, but have you considered some training? Some of the safety classes that are available include range time and have an assortment of rentals available. I got my wife into shooting by signing us up for a NRA First Steps Pistol class. The safety training made her feel more comfortable and they brought out 7 different pistols for the range portion (S&W 22A, M&P9 and 686+, Ruger SR22 and LCR, Glock 19 and Kimber Custom 2). Ammo was included so it was a relatively cheap way to try out some guns. DOH!! I must have missed it. I've been checking every once in a while for the last couple years. Is there a list to get on to be notified?
  14. Go back and look at his signature. If you can use abbreviations like "MT," he can use "RSO."
  15. But, EVERYTHING is a grand conspiracy on this forum. There's some good knowledge on this site, but the paranoia is pathetic. So many posts with fictional "facts" that were conjured up to support one conspiracy or another. Many here think we are losing the battle, and maybe we are, but it's our own damn fault for believing the bull$#1+ they've been feeding us. We buy the "Obama wants to take your guns" thing hook line and sinker and defend Christie while he takes our guns because "Sweeney would be worse." Newsflash, Sweeney isn't the governor, yet, and he doesn't have to be. It all depends on who we get behind. NJ is a blue state, we are one of the most affluent states in the country and are above average in education. That is the demographic of a blue state. The idea of a truely conservative Governor is not realistic and if that's who you support, you may as well be driving Sweeney's uhaul to Drumthwacket for him. Find a moderate, from either party, who respects the 2nd amendment and you have a chance. Find a pro-2A democrat and you might even have a good chance. But a far-right Governor just isn't going to happen without a lot more trailer parks.
  16. Christie would never allow it. That might make it easier to legally obtain a firearm so he'd do anything to stop it.
  17. I went out around 8:30 last night and ran the snowblower. At the time the snow was 20-24", it was hard to find a spot that was in affected by wind so I won't try to estimate an exact total. We got an inch or so since last night, so, 21-25" in the northern corner of union county. Hopefully the roads are reasonably clear, I gotta head down the shore. The new interior isn't going to climb into the boat by itself.
  18. And when Congress blocks the funding, will that be Obama's fault too?
  19. Ding ding ding, we have a winner!!First we bitch that Obama's EOs are unconstitutional. Then, following an EO that allocates money to hire people to process NICS, we say it's so he can keep us from buying guns. Now, the FBI is so understaffed that they can't process appeals, of course that's part of Obama's master plan to take our guns. The paranoia runs deeper every day.
  20. And your killawatt thingy probably won't recognize the modified sine wave, its just a homeowners toy, not a real piece of test equipment.
