I'm not familiar with your target and it's markings. Assuming that each box is 1/4 inch wide and that it's a 100yard target, then you have a group that looks to be a lil less than 3/4 inch, at 50 yards, that is about 1.25 MOA (1 MOA @50yds= .5 inch). Not bad, considering you're just starting out. *edit- if that were shot at 100 yds, it would be about .6 MOA, which is pretty sporty.

The standard is MOA or minute of angle. If you can shoot sub MOA, then you are highly accurate. 1 MOA is 1" (aprox) at 100 yds or 2" at 200 yds or 3" at 300 yds, etc. At 50 yds, if your group size is 1/2" or less, then you did well. Be careful...shooting precision rifle is addicting. That said, we could use some new blood inthe Precision Rifle forum, lol.
  3. The trigger crank idea has been around forever. Also, BATF legal.

    New SPR build

For what its worth, I'm currently using this exact barrel and have no issues i.e. bolt carrier tilt, hot shell ejections, buffer slamming. In fact, it's very soft shooting. I have a Surefire brake and honestly, it shoots about the same as a rifle length gas.

My bad. I love that shit too.

Wow is right. You make a crack about esoteric minutiae then.... you add to it, Rick, lol.

    New SPR build

To add, there are several versions of the MK12 SPR. the original SPR was, indeed, just an upper receiver, hence Special Purpose Receiver. It was attached to an M-16 lower, with A1 stock. It had the PRI round, carbon fiber tube FF handguard. The next version, the Mod 1, had a quad rail and collapsible stock, along with a better trigger. I believe this is when "SPR" became "Special Purpose Rifle". There was also a Mod H or Mod Holland version, but I dont believe the Mod H was actually deployed. If it was, it was only in a small batch.

    New SPR build

Exactly. While not a true sniper system, basically, its meant to extend the effective reach/range of the team or squad. Each branch has their own version: Army- DMR Navy- SPR Marines- SAMR
  10. Some names to go with the faces would be nice, lol!
  11. I follow Bartleins outline too. Thing is, when I'm breaking in, per se, I'm really just checking to make sure I didn't get a poorly machined barrel. Assuming that there are no excessive fouling issues or fliers in my groups, I'm done after the second 5 shot group. on a side note, the barrel bore definitely breaks in by just shooting it. Any machined metal part does. I would say, by observation, it seems to take me between 50 to 100 shots to reach peak accuracy.
  12. While a 6-9 bipod can work, you will use it on 9" more than 6" (at least, for me). I use a 9-13" bipod and typically leave it at 9". When I do that, I need to get the butt of the rifle kinda high when shooting at 100 to 200 yards but it's comfortable at the other distances out to 1050 yds. I never need to extend more than 9".
  13. If you want company, my buddy and i can join you. Mifflin is a great range but hard to get on, on a weekend. They usually have events. Since its a 3 hour ride for me, i plan on going 1-3 times a yr. What we do is split the membership fees (one guy renews as a member, the others are his guests). Makes sense if you only go 2-3 times a year. We get a hotel room so we can get two days of shooting in. Oh, you can also camp outside for $10 a nite, although ive nvr done it.
  14. Thats the place i go to. There are a couple hotels nearby. I stay at the Super 8. The clubhouse isnt a place you can sleep in. If you are part of a group that rents the range, then you can use it (bring a cot), otherwise, hotels are your go to.
  15. Man, that 338 Lapua is badass but damn, where ya gonna shoot it? Thats a whole lotta kick for 300 yd work, lol.
  16. Nice boomsticks. Gun porn. Im gonna shoot my 6.5C, Defiance Deviant action, McRee chassis, Vortex Razor 5-20x. Looking forward to meeting y'all.
  17. Oh brother. 1. Aluminum absorbs heat (and releases heat)much quicker than steel, assuming that the same level of heat is applied to both at the same time. 2. Aluminum expands much more and much quicker than steel. 3. By heating the steel castle nut and aluminum receiver ext at the same time, with the same flame, you are making a *tighter* fit due to the faster and larger expansion rate of the aluminum. 4. To get the adhesive to fail, you want to create a larger gap by expanding the nut and not expanding the receiver ext. Expanding the receiver ext more than the steel nut won't achieve that.
  18. So far, here's who are going (from the forum) to NHRPC: IggyOrt Blackjack988 Shane45 Tactical Monkey Me BullzeyeNJ + friend
  19. If I had to guess, it's probably more like WD-40 removed the rust protectant coating from the area of the metal, rather than the actual WD 40 causing rust.
  20. While heat is the best method, imo, bi metal construction works *against* you here. The castle nut is steel. The receiver ext is aluminum. If you heat both up at the same time, the aluminum expands faster and more than the steel. That basically makes the nut tighter. If you're gonna use a torch, use a fine nozzle that you can pinpoint the heat on the castle nut itself and not on the receiver ext threads.
  21. From Bill the match director: Due to a scheduling conflict with another local match, we have made the decision to move the match date to May 14, 2016. We hope that you are still able to make the match, but if not, please let us know ASAP. Looks like we're gonna have a few of us from the forum there... Eric
  22. I'm not a big fan of the 308 round in general, for precision rifle target shooting. I know the common wisdom that you learn how to dope the wind on a 308, but im of the school that you're better off starting with a wind cheater round i.e. 6.5 Creedmoor, 6mm Creedmoor, 243, et al and perfect your skills on that round instead. You still have to learn how to adjust for wind and those latter rounds will get you much further (distance -wise) than a 308, when your skills grow.
  23. I thought the post should be in this section too: http://njgunforums.com/forum/index.php/topic/80143-bolt-action-prs-matchs-or-clubs-in-nj/
  24. No, no...thats old info. Originally, it was supposed to be on Sun, May 8. Then, they changed it to Sat May 7. Then, the ASC announced that their match will be May 6,7,8. As of right now(the latest), Bill the MD is polling us to see if Sat. May 14 might be a better date.
