  1. Well remember that Thomas and Alito are 75 and 73 respectively, which makes them both younger than Trump or Biden.

Actually IL. is close to the court especially if they start confiscating any firearms or show that they have a list IL. shooters.

  2. But Bruen did change the may/shall effect in NY but also NJ. True both states whined and added extra fees and acts to minimize Bruen's effects. Why can't this 4th Circuit decision benefit NJ? Maryland had a 30 day period for handguns, does anyone in NJ get their handgun in less than 30 days?

  3. I've been smoking cigars since undergrad school. Mainly for stress relief. I smoke the usual suspects and only a couple a week. Since I don't smoke every day, and I'm 6'5" I tend to smoke churchills. Arturo Fuente Double Chateau, 9" Hemingway's, Padron 7000, Oliva, Hoyo Excalibur # 1, anything with a Cameroon wrapper, My Father, Romeo y Julieta. One more guilty pleasure I have, it's found in Frank's Cigar Shop. Some Churchill sized hand rolled cigars that have a cameroon spicy sweetness to them with a maduro wrapper.

It's a small shop on George Dye Rd. in Hamilton Twp., New Jersey. He has a small lounge where his customers could smoke their cigars. After covid the politicos in Hamilton screwed Frank and stopped him from using his back room for smoking. A year ago Cigar Aficionado printed a letter of mine where I explained how unhappy I was. Of course he has a great supply of name brand cigars stocked in his store humidors with very reasonable prices.

If any of my gun friends here that smoke cigars ever drive past Hamilton Twp. make a turn to stop by Frank's shop and buy a cigar or two.

  4. Wow did I get a slap in the head. Here I naively was thinking the IL gun ban was just a simple case of hating gun owners. I read the SCOTUS brief asking for certiorari for the governor's shenanigans. In brief the IL House with the IL Speaker made a fake shell of an insurance bill. It then goes to the IL Senate where the Senate President strips all the Insurance data and then added all the semi-auto gun stuff the Governor wanted into it. Of course it passes in both houses and is signed by Pritzker instantly. It also looks like 3 day time period for public notification was also shortened.

Lastly that wasn't enough for the Guv to insure his gun bill passes future court challenges. It seems 2 State Supreme Court judges left the bench. Before the 2 new candidates ran for election to those 2 seats, they gave extensive public statements that informed voters how much they were against "assault-weapons." To insure they got elected the GOV and Democratic interest groups found their way to pass on $2.5 million to the judges campaigns. Not only did they get elected but when the Gov's bill eventually hit the State Supreme Court, they were there to join the majority opinion. Needless to say they did not excuse themselves due to their incredibly biased gun statements.

Now I lived in Chicago while going to Chiro School for 4 years and I should've not been surprised by the level of Chicago politics! This is one reason that I do not believe in voting for judges. I would still rather they get appointed by the executive/legislative processes.

Yikes, things are getting very interesting with this Duncan v. Bonta case. It seems some members of the very activist 9th circuit Court of Appeals are trying to play games... by skipping over what would be the "usual" next step in this case of a 3-judge panel. This is apparently a very unorthodox move, and they are getting publicly criticized by some of their own judges for this obviously politicized gamesmanship.

This Four Boxes Diner video explains better than I can:

SHOCKING 2A NEWS IN DUNCAN v. BONTA: Federal Judges ATTACK Ninth Circuit for Being UNFAIR - YouTube

Even better is Benitez slapping the same opinion on Miller v Bonta.

  6. My guess is since SCOTUS already kicked it back to the 9th circuit, I would think that they would want the 9th circuit to make the decision so they don't have to. This way they avoid any continued hassles about 'liberalizing' gun freedoms. If the 9th circuit makes the decision it sends a strong signal to other circuit courts. I don't know how Illinois could keep up their semi-auto nonsense if the 9th does what's right.

  7. In the final analysis IL has no real choice because; Well those anti-gunners will soon be in for a shock as soon as the 7th Circuit Court of Appeals make a decision on the IL semi-auto law.
It's no longer about the city of Naperville because the 7th Circuit combined the state law with it, so now it becomes a state decision. If you're old enough to know what a Hobson's choice is, here it comes. If the 7th Circuit rules in favor of IL; it gets an express trip to the SCOTUS. If the 7th Circuit rules against the state, then Gov. Pritzer has 2 choices, accept the fact that his semi-auto law is unconstitutional OR take it to the SCOTUS and hope that they will find some loophole for him to keep his precious law. But it gets better because every anti-gun governor/anti-gun advocate does not want a state law made unconstitutional, because then the SCOTUS will rule and semi-autos will be made legal in every state in the union. Yippee!

  8. As if I have to show how illogical Murphy and his minions are, I'm printing this small exchange between the Judge and the State defendants in Koons. It is also humorous as a study in language.

Under the legislation, a gun owner faces prosecution even when he does not know that the property owner does not consent to his possession of a firearm and by the time he finds out, he has already committed a criminal violation. At oral argument, the State conceded this troubling point:

THE COURT: [D]oes the UPS man, woman, violate the law when he gets up to the front door and the owner says you should not have come on my property if you’re armed?

    MS. CAI: Yes. Yes.

THE COURT: But to make it liable for trespassing under New Jersey, it has to be known to the potential trespasser ahead of time before he or she can be charged with trespassing. This law has no such provision. This law says you can walk down the winding driveway, get to the front door and the [armed] repairmen is told [by the owner you do not have consent and] have just now violated the law, I’m calling the police.

MS. CAI: And that’s exactly what the law provides…

THE COURT: But I think you’re ignoring one salient fact, is that you’re now making it criminal for a person who has a license to conceal carry to not know in advance what that right is.

MS. CAI: So that’s right, Your Honor.

Agreed, back in July you could shoot one gun and then list as many as you like on the form. The thinking was if you could show how to safely handle a firearm, all good. They never even check the targets, just collected them for the trash. Our instructor said we really didn’t even have to shoot the pistol to qualify but they did it anyway. It appears they have pulled back on how many you could list, may have to qualify with each now.

Thank you very much both of you.

Ok, just for fun and opinions..

First, i plan on qualify and listing at least 3 guns. Maybe 4, just for the hell of it. A family member will be doing my qualifications so additional guns is not an issue. But im thinking more than 3 may just piss off the prosecutor or judge once my app makes it that far..

My most likely main carry will be my Springfiled XD-s 9mm..  Really, just what this gun was designed for; and carried IWB. Its new, only about 100 rounds through it. I shoot it well, and fairly accurate.

My second one will a be full size Glock 22 .40s&w. Im a fairly big guy at 5-10 & 240 lbs. I wear a lot of sweatshirts and outdoor jackets when the weather turns cold. Figured this may be an option using a OWB holster.

Then figured, just for fun.... My two-tone Tisas 1911 in .45   Loaded up with Wilson Combat parts, rubber Hogue grip. It feels great in the hand, shoots wonderful. But its big and heavy! But so am i, so not that big a deal. Have a IWB for it already. It is slim, just large and heavy.

And lastly; Dont laugh.. I love this gun! Just shoots fantastic, and very accurate. My Taurus PT-92C    Kinda unique model 92 being the C (compact).  Still a big gun, and wide. But feels great and shoots even greater!   made in Brazil in the the Beretta factory. Perfect clone, and every bit as good as the Beretta version, maybe better as i prefer the frame mounted safety over the Berettas slide mounted safety.

And really gave thought to listing the S&W 686 Stainless 6" barrel .357mag     You know, if shit really hits the fan, and the wild west has a rebirth during a collapsing country, this would fit the bill for non-concealed holster carry.. :D      This is by far the most accurate gun i own. I just cant help but smile and even giggle a little bit when i shoot it. If you dont have a 357 revolver, buy one! Especially if you reload! Cant shoot much cheaper than than 2.8gr of bullseye under a 148 gr lead wadcutter. Accurate, cheap, and fun!

Im a member at CJRPC, and really want to get more into competitive shooting. Some members here on NJGF gave me a taste of shooting/practicing at steel and it was a blast. Just gotta get life settled down enough to give me the time to get more involved. Would also love to get into the bowling pin shoots, maybe cowboy action, etc.   Hence, the thoughts of maybe adding a gun or two outside of the compact typical carry gun. Would there be a benefit to being able to carry the gun on you that you will be shooting/competing with at the range??

    eye,

I'm not laughing about the revolver. As a matter of fact I'm giving serious thought to my S&W 66 with a 2" barrel.  I really like my RIA 1911 5" barrel in .45 ACP, but I agree it might be difficult to conceal.  It was hard for me to find local qualifiers so I bought the NRA basics of Pistol online course just in case. I passed the test with a 90%.

Where are you going to qualify? Is CJRPC going to qualify for NJ CCW?

Appendix A on page 35 has a typical New Jersey qualification course of fire.

    https://nj.gov/lps/dcj/pdfs/dcj-firearms.pdf

While the course of fire is described using a semi-auto, you can easily meet the same time requirements using a revolver.  I've done it many times.

Thanks Kurt for giving me something to look forward to. Too bad they don't accomodate single action.

So I do think they would try to block as long as they could get away with..

I am just pointing out the D.C and  Illinois had shall issue imposed on them and tried to screw around… Both times the Judges who passed the ruling took it personal and got them straighten out in very short order.. I think the Supreme count will feel the same way if disrespected.

The LEO Carry law was passed by congress so there was no one to Kick NJ’s ass for not complying..

Yes I mentioned this a while ago about how the 7th Circuit got on the District Court, but I got the similar negative response from some members here. Only time will tell.

Yes NJ gun owners would not be wrong to suggest that those in charge of supporting their 2A rights have either been weak at best, or just simply corrupt.  It will never happen legislatively and it seems that no one is making the argument which has prevailed in other gun hells like Chicago and Washington DC.

Well the 7th court of Appeals in the Chicago case the Chief of that court flat out quoted that people are in more danger outside their homes than inside. Why isn't that argument for the 2nd or 3rd circuit court of appeals working?

  14. Just letting everyone know about an online place called Guns Valley in Hammonton, NJ. A friend wanted to order primers and I warned him off. First the prices were something like $35-$60 per thousand large pistol primers. The price alone should be enough to warn off the average reloading gun owner.

When you try and place an order Zelle or PP, but they want you to send money by friends/family. Both of those ways make you incapable of getting any kind of refund protection!  No payment by check/credit card.

  15. NJ also signed a brief for the NY case. Here is one horror story about a NJ physician trying to get a CCW and was denied.

Dr. Joseph A. Racanelli is a physician and maintains offices in New Jersey and New York. He
is on-call for emergency trauma and responds to hospitals at various hours. On or about May 8, 2013,
in Newark, New Jersey, he was walking alone on a Newark street when gunmen chased him until he
threw his vehicle keys and bag to them. His vehicle was taken and, although recovered the next day,
personal items he had in his bag and/or his vehicle were not recovered. The items included his
identification cards, driver's license, equipment, medications, a substantial amount of cash, and his
laptop, which contained personal information. In the Matter of the Application for a Permit to Carry a
Handgun Filed by Joseph A. Racanelli, 2015 WL 3843562, *1 (N.J. Super. Ct. App. Div. 2015).

In support of his application for a permit to carry a handgun, Dr. Racanelli explained that, given the
gangs in Newark and the loss of his items with his home address as a result of the 2013 robbery, he
feared for his and his family's safety at home. He noted that there had been suspicious incidents
related to his Newark office and these included people entering his office who did not fit the
description of patients he would expect and telephone callers asking when he would be in the
office. Id. at *2. Dr. Racanelli’s permit application was denied. Both the Chief of Police and the
Superior Court Judge that heard his appeal found that Dr. Racanelli had not shown that he had
“justifiable need” to obtain a permit to carry a handgun.
