  1. Lots of good choices.

    Thomas Crown Affair

    The Thing

    The Fly

Westworld reboot....though a series. Better. The actors need to be ignored off screen though

I feel like I’m forgetting some war movie remakes.  Feel like there were a few good remakes. Have to do some digging.  But I suppose if they were that good....

Would like to see a remake of The Deer Hunter.  If there was one already, it must have sucked.

Sorcerer (Roy Scheider 1977) remake of Wages of Fear (1953)

  2. I’m familiar with System 34s and the character set they use.  My point was simply the State of NJ hasn’t bothered to replace older systems.   But you are correct. Keeping those mini systems off of ethernet has security benefits.  Kevin Mitnick might be a concern if he got anywhere near dumpsters in Trenton, but he’s moved on from that, so they are probably good for now.

  3. So the state that still uses IBM System 36 mini computers went to online FIDs.

Great.   Any bets for how long it will take to hack these so criminals can purchase guns in your name?

Do FFLs verify the validity of a DL by number for example? Or just look at the name, address and photo?

    Electronic is not always better.

  4. Yeah, I have to talk to the FFL but more than likely I’ll pay in full if they want me to..then apply for the permit either when they know the pistols are en route..or once they have them.  I don’t think they’ll charge storage or anything. I just don’t want the permits to expire before the guns show up.

  5. I am about to order a couple of new handguns.  I’m not sure how long it will take for these to actually show up at the shop but guessing more than a month......maybe more than several months.

On permits, my town seems to be running at about 60 days last I heard.  Slow for my town but not ridiculous.

How are you guys dealing with orders of handguns that take this long?  Are you placing the order and paying in full or close to it? Then applying for the P2P’s once its at the FFL?

I don’t know of a better way to do it.

    thnx

Mr. Biden just gave 600,000 machine guns to the Taliban!  He can't even THINK about going after our semi-auto guns!

    In a normal world, true.

But we are waist deep in bizarro world.

Hey...but I’d sure like to go to the Kabul Gun Show this fall.   The selection will be awesome.  Who couldn’t use a slightly used M4 with a nice acog and a 4x magnifier?

IR laser and some IR goggles would be nice to have also.  Plus a decent suppressor.

Doesn’t Kavanaugh have a decently pro-gun rights history?   I thought he wrote a dissent in Heller2 to that affect.

My concern about Kavanaugh is his rationality regarding AR-15’s and the assault weapons ban. Since AR-15s are in common use, they should not be banned.  That rationale is flawed.  What if AR-15s were not as commonly used?  .410 shotguns are probably not in common use.  Neither are FN Five-Sevens.  So those can be banned?

I get that common use can be part of an argument that claims to confirm a particular firearm should not be banned.  But that is not the criteria we should be using. It should more like determining if the weapon is appropriate to its purpose and capable of being safely managed by its user.  Thats it.

I do think 5 justices will shoot down the NY law and help our situation. But given how things have been going lately, its hard to be absolutely certain of that.

  8. We know the four liberal justices will vote against the petitioners. Breyer, Sotomayor, Kagan and Roberts.

The question is..how will Kavanaugh and Barrett vote.  Of those two, I think Kavanaugh is the most questionable.

My other concern is that states like NY, NJ will just ignore the ruling and change nothing. They learned that the Bill of Rights can be ignored.  How would they do this? Declare “gun violence” a public health emergency and issue executive orders.  So while I’m ordering a PPS... I am not counting on being able to legally carry it here in NJ.  I also hope I’m wrong.

I just noticed this thread.  Although this emergency declaration makes no provisions like I described, I see nothing to stop governors from expanding the control.

  9. I first thought this Ad posted here was a joke.  I was reading a thread related to Scotus.....and well... they look like dudes in black robes....... but then I realized these are probably current photos of the members of Kansas.

Maybe the eye patch threw me off....

So, what do you guys think. With the crazy ramp up in prices this year, from low inventory, how soon until we get nailed with higher taxes due to higher values? What about homeowners insurance, I'm sure that will jump due to "replacement value"? It's not only the current buyers getting rammed with higher prices, we'll all see it soon in these other costs.

The prices now are nuts. There is a house in my neighborhood that sold for $475K last November. It came back on the market last week at $600K, and was under contract in 3 days. There was nothing significant done to it in those several months. A quick $125K gain in 7 months...  Nice...

I told wifey, let's sell our house, go travel the US for a year in the RV, then re-buy after it all crashes in a year or so and get a great deal.

Its coming for sure.  Towns have been cutting services. Now with these values going up 15% ..20%...where ever its at now... they are looking at ways to turn that into tax revenue.  I vaguely recall though....that reassessments may only be done so many years after the last one.  We had one 2 years ago I think.

Ever notice they ain’t so quick to reassess when things tank?

And that RV plan has been discussed here.  Not realistic for us right now...but for those who can do it..it makes a lot of sense.  Not only would it be a big cash intake.... it would be a blast.  I’d dump the 31 foot C though and buy a used Tiffin 40 foot diesel.

What happened to N.J.'s  2% cap on annual property tax increases?

Good question.  But ain’t nuthin stopping the dems from making a new law.  Fiat is what they do best.

My first house in Keyport was $29k. No heat,no insulation, built in 1865 but better than an apartment. I survived. Too many people now "need" granite and central AC. I bet there are plenty of affordable houses.

Wait a minute.... I think my friend rented that place and a bunch of us partied there every weekend. The Rolling Rock was flowing constantly.  This place was a dump...but it worked for us.

Probably would sell for $300 now if it wasn’t demo’ed.

  12. We get the representation we deserve.  If we allow the R to be weak and do nothing but slow the spread of marxism.....that’s all we’ll ever get.

And while it sickens me to see someone like Murphy win, it occurs to me that letting a weak candidate go down in flames may be the only way to cause the R party in this state to come to grips with reality.

I’ll probably end up voting for the guy.  But that reluctance is going to translate to lost votes that he desperately needs..... and its HIS fault.  Not the voters.

I give him no chance of winning based on bringing out support.  His only chance is apathy for Murphy among dems.

Nope . . . What he has said is that is what he will push without the legislature.

You're just proving my point . . . So, I'm out on this part of the conversation.

Ed, I don’t see this as believable.  You don’t put your “positions” on issues on your website for a scenario where you don’t have the legislature.   You say what you believe in and what you will argue for and fight for as Governor.  Most of what I’ve read so far, in particular the 2A issues, are weak at best.  He is arguing for Dem Light positions.

Yes.  This discussion seems to be about whether or not Jack C deserves our vote.
