  2. @newtonian and maintenanceguy. I also think 1000 is possible, but will take some effort. And I think it makes a big difference in how this effort is perceived outside our ranks. Info at shops and ranges can help but I think that number will require reaching people through other more direct means. It would helpful if the NRA would provide an email list or if they don't hand that out, perform the email blast on this groups behalf.
  3. I'm catching up but a big piece of that 90% has to be retired LEOs. To carry after retirement, they have to apply and I think go through training. But the 90% thing is BS. As we all know. Back to reading. By the way... Most if not all of you posting here seemed to be pretty informed and articulate well on this subject. Want to add that in itself is fairly impressive.
  4. I'm in for the permit process but likely can't make the 28th because of work. I'm also in for cash if an attorney says there's a path to get something accomplished. Even if just PR and a warning to anti pols. I suspect though, that a larger number than 200 denials might be needed. Word should get out to every FPID holder in the state.
  5. It'll be a tight fit, but it's a safe and not a cabinet. Not a bad deal if it fits what you've got. You could do the floor with a hammer drill or if you know someone with a Hilti gun, you could shoot some long pins. I've got one if you're in Monmouth County. Sometimes though, the concrete will break up and you'll need to shift the whole thing several inches. So a little risk with the Hilti. Or you could lag it to a wall stud. Better then nothing I suppose.
  6. Yup. Some consider procrastination being lazy. I consider it being efficient. Because when I don't have to put those lights up on that tree in the front yard on some Saturday next December...... and I'm at the range instead..... I'll be feelin' pretty good about it. :-) Falcone.... be glad you don't live in Boston or Buffalo.
  7. Agree with the other comments here. It will keep the kids and friends of the kids from accessing the guns. But some effort and a pry bar could get the door open. And as Lalo wrote, use lags to secure it in place. In addition to making it really hard to walk away with....that will keep it from falling on small kids or just tipping over and banging up your guns. I think Dick's carries those Stack-On cabinets. They will go on sale from time to time. If the price at Dick's ends with .99 cents.. it's their regular price. .98.. its on sale. .97 or .96...it's on clearance or special sale. But if you want to see one, maybe Dick's will have it, or a similar model on the sales floor. If you can wait, they go on sales from time to time. I just got a 24 gun F&S safe for $499 and then used a 10% off card I got after buying a compound bow online from Dicks. As for Wal-mart, you can order anything Site to Store. One good thing about Wal-Mart... they will take ANYTHING back. Past the return window? Doesn't matter. Talk to the Mgr or an Asst Mgr that isn't a d-bag... They have to make you happy. And you may run into someone that doesn't get that... there will be someone there who does get it and will take care of you. Using their web site to write a "letter to the president" also helps. That puts the store on notice that someone is PO'ed at Walmart and corporate expects the store to make that person happy...asap. It may take a little effort, but you will almost always get what you want. Good luck.
  8. Very sorry you lost your friend and that we lost a Marine. RIP
  9. Speaking of Bacon. I recently had some Bacon / Horseradish Cheddar cheese. Damn was it good. I'm still trying to find it in a store.
  10. By any means necessary is their SOP. Last I checked more police officers were injured with axes than 5.56 rounds. 2 - 0 as I recall. If the concern was really a threat to LEOs, there would be an attempt to ban axes knives and motor vehicles.
  11. Thanks NJ. Appreciate the thought and info. I take it you fly. I keep an Arrow at 3N6. Been to KJAX and what used to be called Craig Field a few times. The south has a lot of hospitable folks. Mentioned we were gonna calla cab to go for lunch and they gave me the keys to an Audi and directions to a good restaurant. Then again, they had my Arrow..so... Lol. Good luck with the move and thnx.
  12. PeteF, Barms and JnJ. Thanks. Didn't know about the Gun for Hire Radio shows. That episode was helpful. for reference http://gunforhireradio.com/season5.html

  14. Sure JnJ. It can be difficult to discuss this stuff without getting annoyed. I'm new here and have to do a better job of remembering which forum the posts was made. I'm looking for the actual written law where it states what we're talking about. If it exists, and Mr. Nappen seems to think it does, it's likely the basis for the Franklin Twp FAQ post, albeit still incomplete. They would be ignoring the expemptions.
  15. I would defer to him but I didn't get that from any read of the law. There must be something somewhere the says to be in possession of a firearm in public, you need it unloaded and to have your FID. But the exemptions, as he says it, is if it's cased and your on your way to or from a range. Then you don't need the ID. This state is royally effed up. Makes me laugh to recall how as a 14 yr old, I would walk home from hunting with my 12 ga. Along the main road in town. With sometimes 25 rounds of 2 shot or a belt full of slugs or 00. Never an issue. Now as an adult, I can't stop at a drive thru for a burger if the same gun is locked in my trunk. Friggin ridiculous. And where's Christie on this stuff? Looking to compromise with Weinberg on "sensible" ..." All of the above" gun laws. Idiot.
  16. Wooly, I believe your assessment is correct. The anti gun groups are the authors of this crap. To them, we are all evil, criminals. Their job is to construct a law that will match the crime we have already committed in their view. As far as mag issues, there may be arguments for other positions, but vladtepes is right ultimately. That's how the law is written. No prosecutor, and likely no judge in this state would be bothered to consider some intent or spirit of a gun law. Remember, to the anti gun crowd, we are nothing but criminal scum in need of a law to be prosecuted with. While that may make them certifiably insane....it's who they are. This was a pretty good thread.
  17. And it would be nice if the NRA with its significant resources would, if advised of this sort of thing, would have one of their attorneys write a formal letter to PD's that make this sort of bad info public. Maybe they do but I'm not all that confident they'd get involved.
  18. Yeah, still there. Under the inherited from a deceased relative question. I didn't se it initially. And your concern is also my concern. If I happened to be driving through that town, or some other town working off the same bad information, I don't want a cop arresting me because he happens to see my shotgun and ammo in the back seat of my pickup. Makes we want to keep a printed copy of the law with me...and maybe Evan Nappen in my back seat. Unreal what we have to deal with.
  19. I don't recall that being the case. For example, I haven't seen any part of the law that requires you to carry a FID to take your gun to the shop to have it repaired or any of the other reasons we are so generously allowed by NJ law to have the firearm in our vehicle. Just section g applies in terms of how you encase it and keep it being unloaded. I think the only thing a FID does is allow you to purchase a long gun. Doesn't seem to serve any other purpose.
  20. I'm pretty sure that Dick's got paid. I can check with my wife as she's in big box retail.. Not Dick's... But since Amex reviewed the sale and negated it from the customer's statement, I believe the merchant still was paid. Even if they weren't, it's not unreasonable to have an issue with a damaged item and use the Amex protection to protect yourself from poor customer service, or disreputable retail outfits. As far as the first two damaged safes, typically, if items like this made it back to the retailer, they are "damaged out" and trashed. Yes, even large items. There can be exceptions depending on the deal with the manufacturer, but that's usually how it goes. So, ironically, you may have done Dick's a favor if those things never made it back to a Dick's warehouse. No one had to deal with them and they ended up with pretty much the same fate and the same result on their books. Most likely. Morally? It may have been a little slimy to have the safes disappear. But who are we to judge? lol.
  21. Not sure exactly which models but small enough to carry on my hip or ankle without a big bulge. Something like the Kimber Solo line. Seem light enough, small enough and a 6 round mag of 9mm should be fine. I don't know how reliable their guns are but that's another factor. Their 1911 Ultra carry line is nice but 1911s are pretty big for CCW from what I've seen.
  22. Looking at their Blog.....Climate Action NJ....Climate Policy.....Income inequality. Just so you know, this group appears to be a far left organization. Not looking for commentary on these issues in this thread, just informing those interested about who they appear to be.
