  1. Figures it'd be opening up in the north... North Jersey is essentially the reason for NJ being such a f*ed up state with guns, why do they get all the good stuff? lmao
  2. Here's to hoping they don't have astronomical range fees and extremely high prices like a certain other indoor range just off 130... I'll be checkin' it out!
  3. Buddy told me you can use goose anywhere you'd use beef... Crockpot roast, jerky and teriyaki sticks some things I've got lined up if my rather ambitious plans work out...
  4. So... I just went on Amazon and priced out decoys... Holy hell they're expensive. I did pick up this swanky goose call and have been *seriously* anoying the shit out of my girlfriend with it. Hey, gotta practice right? lol but, anyway... How important are the decoys? I mean if I get in the right spot where they're flying over and I'm on point with the calls and the flag will I still have a shot at some?
  5. Very possible they just don't realize their error... I'd politely bring it up to them. And if they already know exactly what it is they've done... Well... *Drifts off into a string of creative thoughts*
  6. I roll up paper and put it in the bolt to keep paint outta there. I like to hang it up to paint it. For my shotgun I punched out the primer on a spent shell, put a string through it, tied it to a small washer, put the shell in the barrel and the string came out the end of the barrel I hung it on a hook. Worked like a charm. Imagine it'd work just as well with an AR though never tried. Edit: Until the damn string broke and I just hung it as you see in the pic. LOL
  7. Ataimwolsol Is that just the picture making it look reflective, or did that clearcoat give it a bit of a shine? That's what I don't want to happen :/
  8. Should hold up, I didn't use that generic camo paint I used the 1,000+ degree engine paint. Kinda wish I got Olive for the base instead of tan now but little late for that heh. The only clearcoat they had that was 1,000+ degree was fucking super gloss. And yeah I saw those reviews lol thanks anyway tho!!
  9. So... This happened today. I'm happy with it... But now I'm torn. It has a really nice, ultra-flat finish you can't really see well in the photo. I want to preserve the paint as long as possible, which leads me to want to put a layer or two of clear coat on it.... But I don't want to end up with a semi-gloss finish or really ANY reflectivity at all with the clear coat. Anyone "been-there-done-that" recommend a good sealer / clear coat that will NOT add reflectivity?
  10. Yeah I thought it'd be too good to be true to use that ammo... I'll grab myself a few boxes of BB. So what would the #4 steel be good for? Anything? So I'm pondering going to the Millville WMA. Never been there but from what I can gather from the website and this NJ hunting app I have it's the closest WMA to me that I can hunt geese on. I may be a little silly here... But I'm debating on making it a camping weekend. I have a buddy that wants to go but doesn't have a hunting license but is down for camping. Thinking pitch a tent, bring a cooler with some dry ice so I can breast and preserve whatever I can bag during the day and do some campfire chillin' at night. Is it "legal" for me to breast the geese on the WMA and bury the bodies? Is it... I guess "acceptable" to set up a camp on the WMA? I mean common sense tells me it's preserved land for that very purpose but friggin' A knowing New Jersey there's some stupid regulations/laws that somehow ban camping... The regulations say "WMA's are closed from 9pm to 5am unless engaged in lawful hunting, fishing or trapping activities..." so, I mean, if I just post up near a body of water and cast a line I'm technically "engaged in a lawful fishing activity", right? lol
  11. I see you're in my area. Any chance you could recommend a good spot/area?
  12. Good to know... Still haven't actually gotten the license yet. Did the safety course last year but money wasnt there to buy any gear so I never got the license. Still have the card from the safety course I just gotta go get it. What's the total cost for the license + stamp, if ya know? I actually have 1/2 a case of #4 steel already that was given to me last year by a friend. Not 100% sure what he used them for but he said he just didn't need em anymore and I'm not one to turn down free ammo... And hey man... I'd be willing to take a day trip to the hilly north if you're lookin for some company for goose. Hell I'll share my ammo and buy beers in exchange for some periodic pro advice throughout the day. Besides you're less than an hour away...
  13. Reading up on the NJ site, September 1 - 30 is open season on Canadian Geese... Never been bird huntin' before, wanna give it a go but no idea where. Got a license and a gun. Anybody goin' out in the south want company or have any advice? Gonna pick up a set of decoys, a call and a flag in the coming weeks.
  14. Where'd ya find the Trump shirt? I need one... Took my little guy fishing the other day. I was out for catfish, set him up with a little bobber. He got 1, I basically offered a worm buffet. 99 bites but a hook aint one. ... Fishing for bass is too complicated for me I like to just cast the line and sip beer until something bites it.
  15. From what I've been told by a Gibbstown cop, hallow points are not illegal to possess but can be used to hit you with more charges if used in a crime. In other words... If you rob a store with a firearm, you get X charge of robbery, X charge of deadly weapon, X charge of assault, etc. If the firearm is loaded with hallow points, they can ALSO charge you with something additional. My truck is literally littered with random 12ga shells, mostly live. Every time I go shooting clays I use my pockets because I'm too cheap to buy a shell pouch. In the end I always jump in my truck and have a few shells still in a random pocket. I take em out and just put em somewhere... glove box, center console, back seat... Always say, "I'll grab em when i get home" and 2 weeks later a co-worker or a friend will jump in my truck and pick one up, give me a funny look and ask if they should be concerned about remaining in the vehicle... It's good for a laugh. I also have a hallow point 5.56 round that came out of the box with a nasty dent and a bend in the neck. I *almost* loaded it, realized it at the last second. Coulda blown my rifle apart! I keep that 1 sitting in the little cubby in the dash... Whenever I see a newer person at the range I break it out and show 'em... Always check your ammo. That was a Remmington round, BTW - I'll never buy their ammo again...
  16. Well my 870 is specifically for shooting clays. Like I said, I'm looking for a cheap, short shotgun to just screw around with. Putting holes in old TV's and such, not looking to hunt with it. I'm happy with my 870 - it just has issues with Herter's ammo for some reason. Runs great with everything else. The short barrel for the 870 is $150, so I figure I might as well spend $200 and just buy a whole other shotgun specifically for having fun, plinking, etc. No intention to hunt with it That being said... So more-or-less if I just buy a smooth bore with a cylinder choke I can put anything through it no problem, but if I buy one with a rifled barrel I'm restricted to sabot slugs and I'm guessing buckshot wouldn't be too kind to the rifling either?
  17. So I'm looking for a tactical shottie I can put slugs and buckshot in, maybe even breaching rounds (Or dragon's breath if I can find em...) purely for the sake of having fun and putting holes in things. I ran into a little bit of confusion while researching slugs and I figured someone here could easily clear it up and maybe just recommend a cheap gun for me. Purely looking for a fun gun here. I've found there's a vast array of different types of slugs in two categories: Sabot and Rifled. From what information I've gotten so far the sabot slugs are for rifled barrels and the rifled slugs are for smooth barrels... Which seemed counter-intuitive to me. Basically instead of me driving myself nuts I'm hoping one of ya'll could tell me the cheapest way to go (Gun + future ammunition). Some things have said the sabot slugs are far more expensive, some said the rifled slugs are more expensive. At the moment I'm thinking just go with a 18" smooth bore pump with no choke and just buy the cheapest rounds I can. I mean I can put anything through a regular smooth bore non-choked barrel without issues, right? Or would I be locked into only rifled rounds? If I get a rifled barrel would I have an issue putting buck/breach/DB through it? I remember seeing a 18" barrel Savage 12ga at Dick's a while back for I think $189. That a good buy for a strictly fun gun? Any known problems? Frequent jamming is rage inducing to me... Which is why my 870 has been in the closet for 6 months. Thnx fellers
  18. Ugh... I never heard about that but if that type-up is accurate then I honestly can't help but wonder why those in the LE community question why most of the general public hates cops? Sure, you can say they were "just upholding the state's laws" but they clearly threw common sense to the wind and did what they did for a paycheck. Every officer involved as well as every officer in that station, every prosecutor, every judge, everyone involved that didn't step up and say, "Really, guys? Really? C'mon now..." is guilty of being 100% deserving of that "pig" title. I try to support LE... But I can't help but feel like they're forgetting their place and forgetting who it is they *actually* work for. They work for the state, not the government... The state is the people! On the subject of CCW in NJ... Wouldn't it be a sight to see after Christie lied his ass off on TV saying "We're making it easier to get a CCW in NJ!" then subsequently and without hesitation veto a bill allowing it? ... Then all the dumbasses that voted for him last election will still vote for him, because they're sheep! lmfao
  19. Answered my own question. Actually, YOU did! Just saw the video you posted. Thanks 10000x man!! Time to plug in the dremel...
  20. Yeah I did notice the lip is actually a lot thinner on the Herter's. The gun is brand new - MAYBE 800 shells through it and I've consistently oiled and cleaned the hell out of it after every outing so I can't imagine anything being "weak". W2MC: The brass is definitely shorter if I'm talking about what you're talking about. From the lip to the top of the brass is maybe 1/4" on the Herter's while the Rio shells it's at least 1/2" maybe even 3/4". I also suspected that could be an issue. Meh, I've been wanting to get myself an over-under I guess I can just save these shells 'till I get one in the summertime. Royal pain having to pick shells out of the gun with a knife ever 2-3 shots. Is there any fix for this you know of?
  21. It's funny you say your only issue is with the semiauto. One of the guys at the skeet place laughed when I said it's only happening with the Herter's ammo and said "Yeah I've heard a lot of people with semi's having that problem with Herter's" Well if ya want some 12ga #8 1oz rounds I'll give ya 8 1/2 boxes of Herter's for $30. almost half-price!
  22. Well I feel like I made a huge mistake in buying a case of Herter's 12ga target loads to save $5 over a case of Rio shells. Went out shooting skeet last night with my remmington 870 and had fun finishing up the 1/2 case of Rio shells I had left over. Opened the new case of Herter's 12ga #8 1oz shells and first shell jammed. The ejector wouldn't even grab the lip, I had to dig it out with a knife. Loaded a few Rio's I had laying around the center console of the truck, worked perfectly. Oiled the gun up, loaded 4 Herter's rounds - second round jammed same way. Dug it out, put enough oil in the gun to drown a rabbit, and it ran through 4 shells no problem. Moved to the next station, loaded 4, first round jammed. This went on for an entire round of skeet... Spent more time digging rounds out of the gun with my knife than shooting. After the round was over I found one more Rio shell in the ammo box. Chambered that one and put 1 Herter's shell in the tube. Rio round ejected fine, Herter's jammed. Now I have 200+ shells I probably would rather throw a trash can than put in my gun. Anyone have a similar experience? Anyone have a secret to getting these rounds to not jam?
  23. Eh, I'll give ya that. Quite a possibility... I've never actually tested my theory in a controlled environment. Never seen a part sprayed with PB-Blaster spontaneously start rusting, tho. Just my 2 cents, I prefer PB to WD.
  24. Well WD-40 is not a penetrating fluid, it's a water displacer. PB-Blaster does a far better job at penetrating into bolt threads. My biggest gripe with WD-40 is, even though the maker's vehemently deny the accusation, I've seen with my own two eyes that it actually promotes rust. After using WD-40 to break a subframe bolt loose many a year ago, I jacked up the car a few weeks later to find that only the areas I had sprayed with WD-40 had a thin layer of rust forming. Everything else had nothing. Seen a few similar things since. Don't get me wrong, it has it's uses... But you'd never catch me spraying it on my guns. Just my opinion, tho.
