  1. I lived in Cedars at Medford Jan 2019 - June 2020. I loved it there, moved for work out of the state for 2 years and when I came back I went to a different area closer to family. But I loved Medford! It's the nicest town in the area. Parts of Mt. Laurel would be my second favorite. Mt. Holly is a bit rough in parts, same as Cherry Hill. The amptons are all mostly pretty good too Also, read up over on City-data.com the sire has great statistics on all towns and the forums (use the search, lottss of info there) are very useful
  2. Just to follow up on this, about 3 weeks later I received a call from the Spring Lake Heights PD stating that they never received one of my reference letters back. I reached out and he said that he never got it, so it must have gotten lost in the mail. Spring Lake PD, without any hesitation, sent out another copy the next day, and two days later my reference received the letter and promptly sent it back. Fast forward to Sept. and I received the call that my FID card was ready for pickup on 24th. I went to pick them up and the detective apologized saying, "sorry these took so long, usually it's much quicker than this but I just got busy this month". With that being said, I told him that it was totally fine, considering Brick took 3 months, and that was with no delays. He then asked me, "no permits?", I said, "no, I just wanted to update my address since I moved and updated my license, this way all of my addresses match". The detective chuckled and said, "oh, okay.... no big deal. When you do want some permits, just stop in!". What a different experience compared to Brick, it's like night and day. Brick PD was very off-putting, almost as though they wanted to do everything they could to deter me from persisting and going through with the process, compared to Spring Lake Heights who were supportive of the process.
  3. I recently moved to Spring Lake Heights, so I put in my paperwork to have my FID address updated. I had to fill out an STS-033 (the same form you fill out when initially applying for an FID card), along with 2 mental health consent forms, perform the online background check ($20) and stamp two envelopes for the PD to mail out reference papers. I submitted all of this paper work Wed. July 27th in the evening after work, around 6PM, so for all intents and purposes we'll say I submitted it all on Thurs. July 28th. Start the clock.... I search high and low and couldn't find ANYONE who posted online how long it took for their FID or P2P to come back from Spring Lake (boro OR heights). So let me be the first to explain how the process goes for me.
  4. I too am a member there, as is my brother and it's the only range I've shot at over the last year. Great staff, great owners, great shop and great range, highly recommended!
  5. Can't wait until you get the Henry, it's going to be a blast to go shoot! :-) OP is my brother btw, lol.
  6. So I just got the phone call this morning that my permits are available to be picked up at my local PD! Here's the timeline. 1. Application type (FID/permit w/ existing FID): First time Handgun P2P x2 2. Police Department where you applied: Brick Township Police Department (http://www.brickpd.com/) 3. Name of the person you dealt with at the PD: A secretary, who told me it will take "around 4 months give or take a month or so", aside from that answer from her, she was very nice and very helpful in making sure I had all the proper forms filled out correctly. 4. Time taken to issue FID and/or permit: July 26th - October 30th, so 96 days (3 months and 4 days) 5. Documents required by the PD (aside from the standard application and the mental health release form): Nothing extra 6. Notes - anything pertaining to the application process (unforeseen difficulties, chief of police calling your home, you hiring an attorney, etc.): It was painless, minus the very long waiting game
  7. Yessss, I just got the call that my permits are ready. So it took from July 26th, references received their forms and returned them the first week of August, and October 30th I got a call that my 2 P2P's (first ones) are available!
  8. Oh absolutely, when I dropped off my permits I was told by the secretary at the PD "you should hear back from us in 4 months, give or take a month or so". I just called today to see what kind of answer I'd get on the status.
  9. Well I finally (after calling Friday, Mon and yesterday all with no answer going to VM) got a hold of the ID dept lady on the phone this morning. She asked when I put in my application, so I said , she responded with "well he's currently taking about 4-5 months to process permits, so you have another month or two". What. The. Actual. Fuck. My town is pathetic.
  10. A week or two?! It took me over a month to get my FPID, and now I'm 2 1/2 months in waiting for 2 P2P's to come back! Man am I in the wrong town!
  11. Don't feel bad, I submitted my permit to purchase a handgun on July 26th, still haven't heard a word from the town...
  12. It is, but in this state it's probably a worse crime to use a gun than it is something else. Not too mention, not everyone in the house can handle there being a gun available, plus if someone enters my home to attack me and my family, I'd rather watch them suffer.
  13. Yeah, I agree with everyone else here, security film doesn't seem worth the trouble or cost. My game plan (eventually) is to have a combination of the following. A decent sized dog Security system window decals/signs (whether or not it's true doesn't matter - if they see that, they'll think twice) My own home-built Raspberry Pi based security system (camera's, sensors, etc., which will also be connected to... see next point) Home-built RPi home automation system. This can be a deterrent in a few ways such as being able to turn things on/off remotely, or automate such things so people will think you're home even if you're actually away on vacation My fists/feet Knives/the meat tenderizer in the kitchen utensil drawer Firearm
  14. Ahh, okay. Yeah I would only lock it in pieces if I wasn't home and was in a situation like OP mentioned (having people in his home while he is not there). My apologies if I incorrectly typed that in the first response, it's late and I'm up working (browsing the forums while waiting for things to load).
  15. As I mentioned I don't (yet) own a firearm, but it will be locked even when I'm home. I'm not owning it for home protection though. If I feel as though I need it for that reason I will stop locking it up when I'm home.
