  1. Sorry! It was a desperate diversionary tactic. Try to understand!
  2. As much as I like HE... I really do prefer when you're harassing HIM and not ME! Now, go away.
  3. I'm shocked... and yet I'm not! This is part of the larger trend - an inordinate concern placed on avoiding discrimination against criminals (because they tend to also be disproportionately black, poor, etc. - cue the violin music). That was a movement in part led by our own former President - who pardoned a record number of felons. The problem with that theory is... as crime studies repeatedly reveal, and as that report rightly shows by focusing on that grieving mom... their crime victims also tend to be disproportionately poor people of color. So, where's the concern for those folks - the actual victims? Kudos to this station for doing the report. Real investigative journalism. Wow! I hope it gets some traction before more bodies pile up. (And on a side note... honestly, I see crap like that and I think, "Yeah, why wouldn't I buy a HD gun and have a tough attitude about using it?" When criminals don't fear the law, that's a dangerous situation for the rest of us.)
  4. I work from home, so if I didn't have an elderly parent in NJ, I'd be gone already - even if it was just to hop over the border into friendlier, less expensive Pennsylvania. The gun issue, though certainly important, is merely one tiny slice of everything that's wrong with the state - a trend toward increasing gov't control and decreasing individual freedom cuts across MANY issues. The cost, bureaucracy and aggravation that results from that trend is just not worth the "benefits" of living here.
  5. From Asbury, I think you're roughly: 5-10 min to the Clinton WMA, Clinton via 78 (off 173) - state run, outdoor only, must have NJ hunting license, only good for certain firearms --- ummm, essentially "free" I think with the hunting license? (Others will correct me if I'm wrong) 20 min to Phillipsburg Pistol & Rifle via 22W - small, private, not fancy but affordable 20 min via 78W to Heritage Guild, Easton - large, commercial, pricey 25 min via 78E to 31S to Tactical Training Center, Flemington - large, commercial, pricey And I can't recall the name, but there's some trapshooting club in Bethlehem Township, south of 78 at exit 7, maybe 10 min from you... "Farmer's something or another?" I believe it's open to the public. There's also several other places a bit deeper into PA like Easton Fish and Game Association, which I hear is very affordable... Ontelaunee, also very affordable... I'm sure there's others I don't even know about or aren't thinking of at the moment. Lots of options... especially compared to other parts of the state.
  6. I'm nearby that area, I'm pretty sure Asbury is a "village" in Franklin Township. Here's their website: http://franklintwpwarren.org/ Don't quote me, but I think Franklin Township is policed by the Perryville NJ State Police barracks like my town. It took me over 80 days for permits. So, good luck. LOL. But, call the # on the muni. website to confirm that. Don't quote me. They should also be able to tell you if there is a discharge ordinance. Oh and... welcome to da 'hood!
  7. Again, Cereza... I award you a blue ribbon for your Most Excellent Internet Sleuthing, LOL. Yeah, that 2nd article really puts it ALL in perspective, doesn't it? No wonder the ball player - the actual bad guy in this scenario - who was often out of control, abusing alcohol and drugs, previously breaking someone's jaw in a fit of rage, and who had a "tempestuous relationship" with his baby momma (that's NBA code for "domestic violence", natch) could be painted as such a poor sad VICTIM. I mean, how out of control was this guy that his own friends didn't "trust" him to visit his girlfriend and child in another city for fear he'd get into trouble? Here's an example: pretty much everyone who knows my ex- thinks he deserves to be capped in the ass - yet I assure you, not one of them has EVER feared that I might actually do it! That's because I'm an adult with self-control. This young man was impulsive... and explosive... and violent. Repeatedly! Like an angry child, but in a dangerously powerful frame. His demise, in light of everything that preceded it, was almost predictable. I can't help but wonder why that first article is "closed" to comments too? That was strategic, I presume. God forbid, when you're an activist on a mission, you don't want those pesky ordinary Joes and Janes raining down common sense on your manifesto!
  8. Personally, I don't think you're reading too much into it at all! This meshes with the tendency to "bury" defensive gun use stories entirely. They rarely make it to major newspapers or networks. And in a case like this, where it's someone "famous" and the story simply can't be buried, so-called "journalists" do the next best thing - cast shade on the person who defended themselves (from the safety of their keyboard when they can't possibly even imagine the duress the person was under)..

    Mrs. Zeke

Oh, my! This thread... it's like Zeke's a little bantamweight and Mrs. Zeke is the heavyweight champion of the world... the way she's tossing him around the ring. Daaaammn! He's so outmatched. I LIKE IT!!
  10. Well, I guess you'd never see this in NJ, LOL. https://www.thegunwriter.com/22780/meet-tampa-gunfights-wvideo/?utm_source=Ammo.com+Newsletter+List&utm_campaign=960d1d3e3b-AC_Newsletter_5_12_17_NL_List&utm_medium=email&utm_term=0_835c3fc179-960d1d3e3b-322778277

All can say is perhaps the Nobel Prize Committee should yank that Nobel Peace Prize out of Obama's hands and pass it over to Mrs. Zeke. She is undoubtedly more deserving!

    Mrs. Zeke

Sorry, Tex. I do feel sorry for her. In fact, I weep for her. Can you just imagine how much energy it takes to keep The Zeeker under control and out of trouble? Oy vey.
  13. Yeah, I just sent an email with the links to all 4 New Jersey chapters of a national women's shooting club. In case they don't know about it already... maybe they'll post to their Facebook pages or otherwise share it. Yeah, this is really over the top even by NJ political standards! It's literally like putting the fox in charge of the hen house.
  14. Wow! Thanks for pointing out this story. How outrageous and disgraceful that a guy with a history of stalking (not just 1 woman, but 2) is trying to pass legislation that makes it more difficult for potential crime victims to protect themselves. Here's the YouTube link (and I must say, I think they actually did a really good job with the video): Frankly, I think everyone who reads this should be sending the YouTube link out (at the very least) to everyone they know who lives or works in that district. And I hope this organization is not only sending it out to the usual gun blogs... but are also trying to target victims' rights groups as well... as I would think it would have traction there also.
  15. Adding to JohnnyB's list... if an FFL or gun store is small and therefore charges for monthly storage on transfers, that policy should certainly be in writing, preferably on their own website and if they don't have one, then on the other sites they advertise on (like Gunbroker, etc.) Really, ALL transactional policies should be in print.
  16. Poor Patch! Nice race though. Kudos to the winner -. I raise my glass to Always Dreaming. On to the Preakness!
  17. Today is the Kentucky Derby, the first jewel in the Triple Crown of thoroughbred racing (a.k.a. the Sport of Kings). Coverage by NBC Sports starts at 2:30, but post time isn't until 6:34 EST. So, there's ample time for you to google mint julep recipes, select one to your liking and then run out to replenish your stock of Kentucky bourbon and other ingredients. Yummers...bourbon, muddled mint... lord have mercy, what's not to like about Derby Day? If you've never been into the ponies, check it out anyway! Not only is it a spectacle steeped in tradition, but this race arguably features some of the finest talent - in terms of horses, jockeys, and trainers - anywhere on the planet and taking place on one of the prettiest little tracks in the country. Each horse is a winner brimming with the promise of true greatness to even be competing at that level, because they have to do well in qualifying races leading up to the Kentucky Derby. This year, I have a particular fondness for "Patch" - a 3 year-old colt so named because he lost an eye due to a mysterious infection. He drew a lousy pole position (#20) and his odds are 15 to 1. How can you not root for such an underdog? If he wins, it'll be legendary!
  18. I love, love, LOVE hummingbirds! I have a pergola over most of my deck... and I have pea trellis on one side covered with annual flowering vines (morning glories, moonflower vine, cardinal flower, etc.) Between the vines and all the other flowers on my deck, I've never had to put out a feeder... and I still get those little darlings all summer long. Read up on their migration sometime... astounding the distance they cover over water.
  19. Whoopsy! Sorry. You have the faster draw.
  20. This one is quite a story... I didn't see it posted elsewhere. Frankly, I was almost tempted to put it under its own separate thread, but decided to place it here instead. What raises this above the usual defensive gun use case IMO is that police think this Good Samaritan may have prevented a mass shooting! Impressive. http://www.msn.com/en-us/news/us/good-samaritan-kills-active-shooter-in-texas-restaurant-police/ar-BBAL3Gc?li=BBmkt5R&ocid=spartandhp

    Peel has permits

Oh, crap! My head's gonna explode, spewing gray matter everywhere. LMAO!! So many decisions. Actually, for the time being, I purchased and placed a trigger lock on it until i can decide next steps. And I recall, there was a good thread on here recently all about safes, so I plan to just look that up - go with the crowd-sourced choice - and order something - or "sumtin" in Zeke-Speak. That's very kind, thank you! Curious... what do you have?

    Peel has permits

Eggsellent! I'll check it out. That sounds like ample timeframe for decision-making. Thanks!

    Peel has permits

Do you know how long that's going on? Because I will NOT jump quickly again. I need to shoot several things, try them out... feel 100% about the choice. Slow and steady. If I miss a rebate, I miss a rebate.

    Peel has permits

Multiple permits, my dear... burning a hole in my pocket! I already went to pick up the 22 (purchased online previously)... but then had some self-doubt about sinking more money into it. Now that I see those nifty mounting plates, I'm thinking I'll go that way and am feeling more resolved on that issue. Totally separate from that however, I am ALSO considering dipping into my meagre savings and splurging on a 9mm or 38 HD type firearm. In for a penny, in for a pound, right?! So, the research I'm doing right now is on firearms bigger than .22 but that nicely fit a smaller hand. I hope that clarifies things! Sorry for the confusion.
