No grooves as in the grove through the threads? if so i have never seen a buffer tube without one. I was once told an easy way to tell is by looking at the rear of the tube. A Milspec will be flat were a commercial will have a slight angle to it. Post some pictures of the tube maybe someone here will be able to help further

you are absolutely right buddy...I look at my instagram feed and every other post is someone showing off exactly what you just mentioned. The big names like Agency, Taran Tactical & Zev are making a killing with all these upgrades and refinishing. It all started with Glock modifications and now they are expanding to other manufacturers.

Sorry for the delay...just seeing this. SCAR is nice but buy it when shelling over the money doesn't hurt...is it worth the money they are going for now? NO...I think you can buy a lot more variety of rifles to learn on vs a single $3500 SCAR. I would start with @DaddyNick suggestion but if you feel you need a little more go with the AR 15, AR 10, or AK and work your way up to the scar and other higher ends rifles and calibers. Ohh and my SCAR is no longer for sale @Zeke im holding off for @Mrs.Zeke its hers when she's put away enough of your money

This one i will have to pass on...cant see spending $4500 on what is essentially a 17s that produces slightly better groupings. Honestly i would never buy a 17 at todays prices either.
