  1. Correct me if I’m wrong, but we could do the same (hypothetically) if we had a DNJ case overthrow our ban and it was upheld by the 3rd? Probably more likely the CA case would make it to SCOTUS before we’d win a case here. Hell can only freeze over so many times.
  2. When I first read this, I had to check the calendar to make sure it wasn't April Fools. California? Incredible! I doubt we'll see any changes in PRNJ because of this - at least not in my life time. Still a win -- anywhere -- is a win.
  3. Yep. As much as a complete semi-auto ban is the left's fevered dream, they're more likely to continue to push for legislation that chips away at the 2A. I can see online ammo sales being prohibited in NJ very soon. And once all ammo sales are within the state, Gopher Phil can impose a tax on purchases very easily. More slush money for the corrupt Trenton mob bosses.
  4. I ordered mine on 3/11 and it came in the mail 3/21, so 10 days. I measured the gauge with two sets of calipers and the thickness is 0.035”. The gauge did not protrude above the bolt but was slightly below, which is consistent with my prior measurement of the recess depth for my gun being 0.041”.
  5. I just shipped another handgun by FedEx using Bud's ShipMyGun.com. I highly recommend that service. When I dropped off the package and declared it an unloaded handgun, the woman said, "Umm. Okay". I asked her what telling her that does as far as the package goes - any special handling or notation in their system? She said, "Nope - it's treated just like every overnight package, but you have to ship to an FFL and the gun has to be unloaded, no ammo in the package and no markings on the box indicating the contents." I asked if they lookup the address and match it to FFL addresses. She said "Nope - the system doesn't know it's a firearm and we have no idea who you're shipping it to." So basically, the ATF requires you to tell the common carrier - period. It's FedEx's rules that it must ship overnight. So if you ship ground or 2-day and the gun gets lost or stolen and you report it, it could be inferred that you didn't tell FedEx, otherwise they would have stopped you from sending it slower/cheaper. Yeah, you could play dumb and say, "I told the girl and she let it through" and that might cost someone their job or they could put it on you for violating the CFA (Commerce in Firearms and Ammo) statute, which is a felony. That said, for the $10 it might save me, I don't want to get jammed up or lose someone their job, so I comply with the "declare for no apparent reason" law.
  6. I invested in a good pair of boots and don’t really mind that much - I’m usually the only one there. Rarely another car in the lot. It’s never a problem getting a bench, so that’s a plus. No waiting to change flags. Maybe a few cars go to the back (LEOs at the active range?) but it’s usually deserted on weekdays. Funny, I get emails all the time from all the other ranges I use. Does SJSC send anything out? I can’t recall ever seeing anything about range status or events.
  7. I was there (the only one there until I packed up) from 10-12. 100 is better than before. Left side is drying, right side submerged. 50 still looks flooded but I didn’t use it. Just got my renewal notice in the mail. Will give it some thought before writing a check.
  8. Interesting, and that makes sense that they went with a thickness closest to the upper end of the 0.043-0.051" range. I haven't gotten my gauge yet, bit I'm fairly certain my bolt is slightly shallow. Mine is the Performance Center model and it was made in Nov of 2018. I measured mine multiple times and keep coming up with 0.041" I wonder what depth causes the autofire? I saw one guy on the S&W forum that claimed his depth was 0.036" and he did not have any issues, maybe because of his ammo? I think the SAAMI spec for the cartridge rim is 0.036" to 0.043".
  9. Yes, those of the SAAMI rim depth ranges for the chamber. Just wondering what S&W considers their spec. I measured my bolt depth and got 0.041" (with my cheap Chinese digital calipers). Do the gauge instructions tell you to just eyeball it or maybe run a credit card over it to make sure it's flush or lower (that is, doesn't get hung up passing from bolt to gauge)?
  10. Can you tell us the thickness of the gauge?
  11. News reports say "Security stepped up at mosques in the US". Here we go. Gun owners = White supremacists = Trump supporters = Islamaphobes.
  12. Said the whack-job: “This conflict over the 2nd amendment and the attempted removal of firearms rights will ultimately result in a civil war that will eventually balkanize the US along political, cultural and, most importantly, racial lines.” Well, thanks for caring about our rights - but your little massacre really wasn’t helpful.
  13. Do we know if relatives can be used as a reference now? The instructions and the actual form conflict with each other: "When completing the application you will need the correct email addresses of two (2) reputable references. Your references can be family members." "Application requires references from two reputable persons who are presently acquainted with the applicant, other than relatives."
  14. It appears that with the implementation of FARS, they've done away with that illegal form. My wife would always laugh when she got one in the mail. "Seriously? Do they know how many guns you already have?!". Now, at least on paper, your two references will be contacted by email (faster) and they can be relatives, which is a big improvement. Good luck - let us know how it goes with the "new" process. Happy to show you around the local ranges I use anytime.
  15. Last time I got my paperwork (before the new electronic system), it was 6 weeks and, other than the one extra/illegal (spousal permission note), it was straightforward and the township kept me up-to-date on the progress. Might have been quicker but the Chief was on vacation and the permits sat on his desk for a week. If this is your first time doing this in NJ, be prepared. You'll need references (can be out of state). All the instructions are on the CHPD website.
  16. Yes, I forgot about Quinton - nice laid back place, though a bit of a haul from Cherry Hill. I go there when I'm avoiding the registered shoots at Pine Belt. Also, there's Cedar Creek if you like Sporting Clays.
  17. Cherry Hill here. Also a PA transplant. CHPD is not awful when it comes to paperwork if your need a FID or P2P. About 6 weeks last time I needed a FID after moving. For ranges, check out Telco, South Jersey Shooting Club and Pine Belt since you mentioned skeet. Hit me up anytime with questions and welcome!
  18. Is the in-spec depth published somewhere? I just bought mine in December. It was manufactured weeks before in November. They must sell a ton of those 15-22's. Interestingly enough, I checked my box label - no red dot which indicates it had been inspected at the manufacturer (which is consistent with the manufacture date being prior to Feb 2019), but when I put in the serial number, it told me mine was not part of the recall. Maybe because it's a NJ-compliant Performance Center model? The recall says ALL 15-22's with no exclusions.
  19. I like the thought of brass knuckles response, but in NJ? Where we have a Senator who slept with underage prostitutes paid for by a political donor? Libs only care about control and ethics be damned.
  20. It's interesting that Gov Gopher cites the revenue these fees will generate. The silver lining is that once the lib-controlled government starts sucking on the teat of new revenue stream, they're likely to want to preserve it - not cut it off. But libs are bad at math (and logic) and never understand the concept of unintended consequences. Look at Philly when they jacked up the parking fines expecting twice the revenue (assuming the same number of violations). Instead, people changed their behavior and violations dropped and revenue actually decreased with the higher fines. Idiots. I think we'll see that most gun enthusiasts will suck it up and pay the additional fees and some will slow down or stop buying. The online ammo sales ban is gonna suck, though. Time to stock up the "hoard".
  21. I first tried printing a label with my own FedEx account, just to see what it would cost me. There was NO OPTION to declare the contents a firearm of any kind, let alone a handgun. Closest option was for "Dangerous Goods", but an unloaded firearm is inert and not considered dangerous - that's for flammables, corrosives, lithium batteries, etc.. Instead, I went with Bud's ShipMyGun.com and put in all the FFL info and the fact that I was shipping a handgun. No mention of brand, type, caliber, serial no. Just "Handgun". Bud's emailed me a label to print. Less than half the cost for the same Priority Overnight service. When I tendered the package and declared "it contains and unloaded handgun". The woman said, "OK", but she did print out and slap on another sticker. Doubt it was anything specific as she did nothing more than scan my pre-printed label and slap on her additional label almost simultaneously. Maybe that had some secret info on it (doubt it) based on what Bud's entered, but I think it was just a sorting label. Maybe next time I'll ask or someone who works at FedEx can chime in.
  22. ATF only cares that you tell the carrier. If UPS or Fedex would accept ground handgun transport (and you declared) that would be OK with the ATF - but they don’t. You guys playing cute will probably be fine unless something goes wrong - then you’re looking at a jackpot. Roll the dice!
  23. I get that it's pretty easy to circumvent the rules and save some bucks. As a matter of quantitative risk analysis, I'd say it's low probability that something would go wrong, but high risk if it does. I'm sure you're shipping to an FFL/licensee and everything about the transaction is legit, but not telling the carrier is violating federal law and a black mark no gun owner wants to have on his record. That'll shut anyone down and get all your toys taken away. Not worth it to me. Do we know that carriers don't randomly X-ray packages?
  24. As a non-licensee, I just shipped my first handgun using ShipMyGun.com (Bud's shipping service). They were great - fast and less than half of what I would have paid on my own. So according to the ATF and the guidelines posted by both UPS and FedEx, handguns need to ship overnight and you have to declare when you drop them off that the package contains an unloaded handgun. So, as I read the statute (18 U.S.C. § 922 - U.S. Code - Unannotated Title 18. Crimes and Criminal Procedure § 922), it's pretty clear that's the law, like it or not. So my question is - how would I ever prove that I did that? If I could potentially be prosecuted for not declaring something to the common carrier, what could be my defense? There was nothing recorded on the receipt she gave me and when I told her, she basically shrugged and said "OK". As silly as the law/rule seems to be, I wouldn't do what many I read do and ship the gun as "machine parts" 3-day. That's definitely a way to get jammed up if the gun breaks free of the box or is stolen since they'd never accept a declared handgun as a shipment other than priority overnight.
  25. This discussion reminds me that we need to stick together. I think we lose leverage when we only focus on things that only affect us directly. Shotgunner's not caring about rifle owners or those of us in NJ discounting nationwide restrictions that we Jerseyans already suffer under. Nationwide 10 round limit? Why should I care - we already have that! Background check for every sale? Got that too. They will keep going at us so that it's a death by a thousand cuts. And if the rest of the nation gets as bad as NJ, Governor Gopher will be emboldened to become the "safest" state by imposing a 5 round limit. Reality doesn't matter. You are statistically more likely to die falling out of bed than be killed by a rifle and twice as likely to die from a workplace fall than be killed by a rifle. But sanity has gone out the window.
