  1. As a lifelong tennis player, I suggest a solution: Three divisions: Men's tennis, Women's Tennis and a third bracket for all the Transitioning/Questioning people (which no one would watch). Just not sure where to put Serena.
  2. Conditions have improved, at least on the 100. Still substantial flooding on the right half of the target house, but I was able to set up a ground based steel spinner on the left, which I couldn't do last week. Still need muck boots though as the approaches to the shoot houses are deep mud. I was the only person there for a while, which is good - many of the target backers are missing.
  3. Well right behind the range is Blue Hole (see photo). Locals say the center depth is 90 feet, which seems unlikely, but still, the water table must be extremely high in that area normally, so there's probably little margin for error if SJSC has a drainage problem. The second photo (from the website) shows the drainage basin behind the 50 and 25 yd ranges. I've just taken to wearing rubber hunting boots and it's workable. Only thing I'm unable to do is set up a steel target on the ground, but hanging is just fine. I wonder what they're telling new members at the Saturday orientations? If I can find Dan's or Fred's email address, I'll send them a note. When I go during the week, I never see a RSO. There are times when my car is the only one in the lot. Maybe during the winter, everyone is an RSO. There was a young couple trying to skip bullets off the water a few weeks ago, so the water for some is an attractive nuisance. I'm going to try again tomorrow or Thursday depending on the weather.
  4. I have some leftover ammo that I plan to sell, either here or on GB. Any concerns or areas where I'd get tripped up? Can I just sell it like I'd sell a gun case or scope? Some of it is rifle ammo and some handgun, if that matters. Thanks.
  5. I don't know much about range building, but I would assume the pad where the shooters' tables are and where the target house is placed should be level and maybe the high points. I wouldn't mind walking AROUND a pond to get to the targets, the way it seems to be on the 300. But the 100 and 50 seem to have their low points at the target houses. Not only does it completely suck to stand in icy water, you can't set up any ground based targets. My steel spinners would have been half submerged. I'm no landscaper or civil engineer, but I would think it wouldn't be THAT difficult to make the low point the center and not the far end. I plan to go back next week - probably Wednesday. I'll be wearing some 18" rubber boots for sure.
  6. I was there today (Thursday), 54° and sunny after yesterday's snow (Climate Change! LOL). I was on the 100, which is still flooded near the targets. Better on the left than the right. Setting and retrieving targets was a challenge as there is probably 8 to 10" of standing, icy water. I was wearing boots that are water repellent, but they flooded. By the time I was done shooting, my pants were wet to just below the knees. I need a pair of rubber boots for my next outing for sure - it was not pleasant. There were a few guys on the 50 and 25, so I suspect those weren't too bad. The 300 looked dry near the targets, with a lake in the middle that you could walk around. The pics below show the 100 target backstop and the full length of the 300.
  7. Every year, I say I'm going to check out Telco, but I never seem to get around to it. I currently belong to Pine Belt and SJSC and occasionally shoot at Quinton and Cedar Creek. I'm purely a recreational shooter, so when the clubs are having big competitions, I like to have options to go somewhere else.
  8. I'll go out on a limb and guess: more rain than usual? I only say this because 2018 was the wettest year in NJ in over a hundred years and January was high on top of that. My back lawn has been underwater most of the fall and winter too.
  9. Yeah, I went back last Tuesday. For better or worse, the water had frozen from the previous cold snap, but that day was in the 50's, so each range had basically a floating glacier. Set up a steel spinner at 100 and first shot sent it sliding into the backstop. I've been a member for years, but don't recall it being this bad before either. With enough money, I"m sure it would be a solvable problem. Aside from increased dues, though, I'd be concerned about the county/state poking their noses into some construction of anything at the range. Who knows, they'd day there was lead in the catchment water and declare it an environmental hazard. Then we'd all be screwed. Maybe we just chalk it up to a wet winter and let nature take its course.
  10. I think FFL to FFL deals are fairly straightforward or having your FFL who is also a dealer get you the gun and make it compliant. There are some out-of-state dealers who simply won't ship a non-compliant gun to a restricted state. For example, Bud's policy: We will not ship firearms to a third party to be modified or changed in any way from manufactured specifications. The firearm you purchase must be compliant AS IS from the manufacturer before we will ship.
  11. Ha ha - yeah, I know - that Trijicon is a pig, for sure. The DDm4 with iron (polymer) sights was blissfully light when I got it. All that went out the window with the Trijicon. That being said, the AR is a range-toy, so I don't worry about the added weight. I do love the 1-8x optic, though. I have a Burris 536 fixed at 5x on my other and I was surprised how much another 3x helped at 100 yds and out.
  12. I'm in and thankfully it's not green-tip. A barrel of 5.56 is definitely a party!
  13. I was there recently and every range was flooded from in front of the houses all the way to the targets, though the pads of the houses were mostly dry. With the wet winter, each range is like a bowl collecting water. If you wear some waterproof boots, you can persevere by walking along the berm. Where the target are, though, I was standing in 6-8" of freezing standing water. Not fun. With the 7/10/15 range closed, you can shoot pistols in the 25. They have some target stands set up for shorter distances.
  14. Well, something is certainly broken and it's likely a due to a multitude of factors, compounded by the hype in the media and the instant (and constant) news cycle. The problem is finding people to analyze the problem who don't otherwise have an axe to grind.
  15. When I purchased my first gun, a handgun, there was no internet. You went to a gun store and saw what they had in stock or you looked through a magazine and maybe wrote a letter asking for a catalogue. I got my hands on a Wilson Combat catalogue and drooled over their 1911's. All I could afford then was a Colt, but I did manage to outfit it with a few Wilson parts. I still have that catalogue. Fast forward 30 years (and as many guns), and I finally did get my Wilson. This one in 9mm instead of .45 ACP. It's a great gun. Slick, smooth and accurate. Honestly, as an aspirational gun out of my reach, it was more special than a gun I could finally approve years later. My gun was used by Wilson in their promotional literature/website for the new X-Tac.
  16. I'm a little late to the AR party. DDM4v7 in Mil-spec+ with the Trijicon 1-8x. Pretty much stock except for the Wilson Combat TTU-3G trigger and Raptor charging handle.
  17. Seriously, that thing is sick. I'd give it "Best in Show" for sure. Well done.
  18. I have a pretty cheap Celestron 25-75x70 that does the job. I don't need Leica quality glass -- just enough to see the target. At full zoom (75x), the slightest movement makes the target dance as you're counting holes. It works better when the tripod is on the concrete floor rather than my range's wooden tabletops. Sells for about $89. https://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/546159-REG/Celestron_52238_C70_Mini_Mak_2_7_70mm.html
  19. I just purchased a new Daniel Defense DDM4v7 from Jack as a first time customer and have to share what a great buying experience it was. Jack was super-responsive to my request and got me the rifle at the best price around. The turnaround time was fast - about a week from the time I confirmed my order to delivery, and that included the compliance work. Jack went over the gun completely when I picked it up and took the time to answer any questions I had. I'd have to say he's more of a gun concierge than a dealer. Really first class service from start to finish. I will definitely be a repeat customer! Dave
  20. I was able to sell one rifle here (thanks), but not getting much interest in the others, so I'm off to GB/GA. I'm thinking for online sales, putting the gun back to it's factory config might be best. For one, it'll let me price it competitively. Leaving on a scope or accessories and factoring that value in puts the price above most of the unadorned guns and the ad might not even be looked at. Secondly, I can sell the scopes much easier in more places as the market is bigger. Finally, it's easiest to ship in the factory boxes that the guns originally shipped in. Can't do that with a mounted scope. I have my GunsAmerica account set up and some listings created. Still jumping through hoops with GunBroker.
  21. Hey there. Cherry Hill here. I shoot at SJSC, Pine Belt, Cedar Creek and Quinton. Dave
  22. Report: "...he fired the gun in self-defense at a vehicle fleeing the scene" Da Truf: He was disrepected and pissed off...and apparently a really bad shot.
  23. I'm going to give Deuce's Den a try. Ever since Bangers closed, I've been having hit-or-miss luck with the private FFLs who aren't in the business full-time. I hate having to chase people down to give them my business.
  24. You can document everything ahead of time. There are several books that can document all your secrets and wishes...from beyond the grave.
  25. My wife has zero interest in any of the hobbies that I've had over the 30 years we've been married. I learned long ago there wasn't much point in discussing every new camera, lens, guitar or gun. Her eyes would glaze over. Motorcycles were a little different since they took up space. A couple of years ago, I lost my job and she was concerned. I told her not to worry, selling some cameras would carry me for 9 months to a year. "How many cameras could you possibly own?" she asked. LOL.
