  1. That explains where the firearms are going. There's an auction for the rest of the (non-firearm) store inventory, which is open to the general public: http://www.comly.com/auction/308473/bangers-sport-shop-store-inventory/ Damn shame about Banger's. Really nice people.
  2. Imagine how much older the old farts have gotten since this thread was started
  3. Well I never did get around to following up on this. Got crazy busy over the summer and fall. Now that the weather is about to turn, I'm gonna try to get out there. I see that Telco has starting up 5-stand on Sundays and will start Trap again in March. Might pop over there to check things out. I know it's low key, but I'm reluctant to jump into a competitive situation having never shot clay.
  4. I picked up a new RPR in .243 Win and have yet to get out to try it out. I'd also be interested in a beginner's course as I'm totally new to precision shooting.
  5. I'll definitely follow this one - I'd love to have a local indoor range. I don't reload, but what's the deal with places that don't allow it? Can you only bring in unopened boxes? I usually load my mags at home to save time on the range, plus I have some bulk/old ammo in plastic bags - it that all verboten?
  6. I pretty much agree with Izzo above. Watching the original 8 minute video, you knew right away this went on far too long and wouldn't end well. The news reports said there was history between the cop and the kids and he had called the local PD before on the issue, so there was already bad blood between them. I don't buy the "warning shot" theory. I don't know a department in the country that allows warning shots. If you get a chance to see the other video, taken from a different angle, you can see the cop pull out his weapon with his free (left) hand, and then try to use that hand to continue to pull the kid over the hedge. Looks like a ND to me. The kids were being total jackasses, but that cop should have had the presence of mind to de-escalate the situation. No charges against the off-duty cop (yet). Hard to see how he isn't coming out of this without at least some adminstrative sanctions.
  7. Oh for chrissakes... As the late, great Bob Grant used to say, "It's sick out there and getting sicker." As for what to buy before we get a Dem Gov, I'm definitely gonna stock up on ammo. If the new regime outlaws anything I already own, well, hell...I completely forgot where I put that thing. Oh well. Not only the left can #resist.
  8. Well, as the imperial president, Obama has granted himself this power. Though it should be noted that he has gotten his wrists slapped something like 36 times for executive/unconstitional overreach by SCOTUS and various courts of appeal. He just ignores the rulings, or has his hacks in the DOJ file an appeal, meanwhile the executive orders continue unabated.
  9. I've found, more often than not, the online ammo vendors do NOT require the FID, but I do keep a digital copy just in case they do. I recently purchased from SGAmmo, Natchez and Copper Creek and they did not ask for an FID. I will NOT send anyone my Driver's license, including Gunbroker.com (who requested it). I had my identity stolen in 2014 (bank accounts taken over, ATM cards ordered - the whole nightmare). I'm not about to give any more information than I absolutely have to. There are plenty of options for purhasing elsewhere.
  10. Thanks for all the replies and generous offers of support. I will definitely follow up on your suggestions. My former shooting buddies fled NJ years ago and I've been going solo for a while. Would genuinely appreciate the opportunity to connect with new folks!
  11. I haven't shot a shotgun in years (and never clay), but I've got it in my head to give it a go as I'm a little bored shooting at paper targets. So where does one go to get started? Just go to a trap facility, for example, and order a rack of clays and just have at it? (That sounds expensive). Find a class or instructor somewhere? I'm in South Jersey and I came across Pine Valley (which doesn't seem to offer instruction that I can see). Also found a place called Cedar Creek in Millville that looks to offer personal instruction. Appreciate any advice to a novice (shotgunner). Thanks!
  12. IIRC, during the orientation for SJSC, they recommended that any LEO's wear something somewhat identifying themselves as such if they're going to be doing things ordinary members can't do (like carry).
  13. I am right-handed and was left-eye dominant until one day, in frustration, I gouged my left-eye out with a pencil. Problem solved.
  14. Same here. I had five P2Ps over the course of several years back in the 90's. Bought 5 guns, traded in 3 to a dealer along the way. I have no paperwork on the trades except for a handwritten receipt for one. I'd bet my next paycheck that if you went through my file at the local PD, they'd show that I purchased (and may still own) all five. Nothing was computerized back then. Maybe now it's a tighter system.
  15. Just picked up an RPR in .243 (well, it's on its way to my FFL). Looking forward to playing with it in the next few weeks at SJSC. The Creeds and the 308s are in short supply, and I actually like the .243. Will never compete with it, but my aging spinal column will appreciate the lower recoil. I'm just in it for some long range fun.
  16. Financial advisor advised thusly: Whatever you do, DO NOT RETIRE IN NJ. Taxes. Get out before you start drawing from your retirement.
  17. Thanks. I've been a lifelong handgunner. The P2Ps are a PITA, but funds are more limiting. After a hiatus, I got back to shooting and damn if my eyes didn't get old. Really frustrated picking up the sights with my eyeglasses (with or without progressive lenses). Put an an order in for a precision rifle figuring I may have better luck with a scoped long gun. Just in it for some fun.
  18. I know this is an old thread, but a new gun makes this question relevant again. The Ruger Precision Rifle (bolt-action) will accept multiple types of magazines, including those that fit the AR platform. So my question was, much like the OP's question, can you legally use a large capacity magazine in a bolt-action rifle? Many people look to section 2C:39-1 for guidance, but that just defines all the terms in the statutes from "large capacity magazine" to "retail dealer" without setting up any prohibitions. The relevant section that makes a "large capacity magazine" evil all by itself (regardless of how used) is 2C:39-3 "Prohibited Weapons and Devices": j. Any person who knowingly has in his possession a large capacity ammunition magazine is guilty of a crime of the fourth degree unless the person has registered an assault firearm pursuant to section 11 of P.L.1990, c.32 (C.2C:58-12) and the magazine is maintained and used in connection with participation in competitive shooting matches sanctioned by the Director of Civilian Marksmanship of the United States Department of the Army. Notice that there's only one exception (for a registered assault firearm registered for competitive shooting under the supervision of the US Army). So any magazine capable of holding more that 15 rounds and capable of feeding a semi-automatic (the basic definition of large capacity magazine) is illegal to possess, whether used in a semi-automatic rifle or bolt action, or just kept in a drawer. The NJ Administrative Code (NJAC) also sets up a few exemptions for dealers (wholesale or retail), but those wouldn't help out the average Joe. So, if a bolt-action rifle had a proprietary magazine incapable of feeding a semi-auto, it would seem to be OK.
  19. Just to be clear, the 30-day rule between purchases is for handguns only, right? And that purchase would have no effect on buying a long gun? So if I legally used one of my handgun P2Ps yesterday, I could legally buy a long gun today and tomorrow and every day between now and doomsday and I'd be legal? I just want to make sure the rule isn't 30 days between "any" gun purchases. Thanks.
  20. We're on our third Subaru, the last two were Outbacks (2010 and 2016). My son has the 2010 and my wife has the 2016. Can't beat them for comfort and space and ours have been ridiculously reliable. Only thing I didn't like in the 2010 was the safety-nazi design of the Nav/Infotainment system. Couldn't do a thing with the bluetooth or nav if the car was in motion (even the passenger). That was fixed by 2016. The 2016 model is very nice and though I prefer German cars, I have to admit the Outback is a great value.
  21. I joined SJSC in Winslow last month and like it. I haven't found it crowded yet. Was there yesterday (Sunday afternoon) about 5 pm and was one of only three shooters when I left. People are friendly. Facilities are clean and in great condition. They allow plinking/steel at 25 yards and out.
  22. I used to work right around the corner from CRRC and thought about joining until I saw that arbitrary 5-round limit. Why 5 and not 7 or 2? I know quite a few West Windsor residents and (no offense to anyone here), they're all kinda anal, so I'll take a pass on a place that institutes such a silly rule. Yesterday, I went to the range with 3 15rd magazines for my FNX-45T and shot 45 rounds without reloading as I sighted in the RMR. To do that at CRRC, I would have had to have had 6 more magazines (at a cost of nearly $300) or broken my concentration repeatedly for no apparent reason. Most ranges will have rules against rapid/uncontrolled fire and state that firearms must be NJ legal. A few won't let you draw from a holster.
  23. Yep, I've used Joe for purchases as well as transfers. He's local, responsive to emails and will store your guns if you need to wait for paperwork or the expiration of the 30-day limit.
  24. FNX-45 Tactical w/RMR and Wilson Combat X-TAC 9mm, both brand new. 250 rounds across 9 magazines and not a single failure. I shot like crap, though.
  25. I have a question or two about shooting pistol at Range-14. As I read the above, it sounds like the closest you can set up is 15 yards (and must be above ground). And ground targets are OK at 25 yrs (no metal). What is needed to hang paper targets, let's say at 15 or 20 yards? Do I have to make some kind of support - what's typically used? Thanks.
